¹³ "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its taste, how shall it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. ¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵ Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. ¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

²⁵ so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. ²⁶ And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. ²⁷ Now you are the body of Christ, and individually members of it.

³ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. ⁴ Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. ⁵ Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, though he was in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross. ⁹ Therefore God also highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ¹² Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; ¹³ for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. ¹⁴ Do all things without grumbling or arguing, ¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

²⁰ For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

³⁷ Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

¹⁴ And we urge you, brethren, admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

³ For by the grace given to me I say to every one among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith which God has assigned him. ⁴ For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, ⁵ so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. ⁶ Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; ⁷ if service, let us use it in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; ⁸ he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. ⁹ Let love be genuine. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. ¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in showing honor. ¹¹ Never be lacking in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. ¹² Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be faithful in prayer. ¹³ Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.

⁴² They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. ⁴³ Everyone was filled with awe; and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. ⁴⁴ And all who believed were together and had all things in common; ⁴⁵ and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as anyone had need. ⁴⁶ And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they ate together with glad and sincere hearts, ⁴⁷ praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

² Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

²⁴ and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, ²⁵ not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the Day drawing near.
