¹¹ About this we have much to say which is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. ¹² For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of God's word. You need milk, not solid food;

¹⁷ But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth.

⁶ And without faith it is impossible to please God, for anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

¹ Now as to the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need to have anything written to you. ² For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, "Peace and safety," then destruction will come upon them suddenly as labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. ⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. ⁵ For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. ⁶ So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. ⁸ But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. ⁹ For God has not destined us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰ who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with him. ¹¹ Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.

³⁸ Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." ³⁹ And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. ⁴⁰ And when he came again, he found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer him. ⁴¹ Then he came the third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, because in them you think that you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of me. ⁴⁰ Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

¹⁷ Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

⁹ Let love be genuine. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. ¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in showing honor. ¹¹ Never be lacking in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. ¹² Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be faithful in prayer. ¹³ Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.

¹⁵ I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot! ¹⁶ So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth.

¹⁶ making the most of your time, because the days are evil.

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. ¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. ¹² For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, ⁴ and will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

² Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works perfect in the sight of my God.

¹¹ Never be lacking in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

¹⁶ So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth.
