¹ And He entered again into Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in a certain house. ² And immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no longer any room, not even near the door. And He was speaking the word to them. ³ And they came to Him, bringing a paralytic being carried by four men. ⁴ And not being able to get near Him because of the crowd, they removed the tiles from the roof where He was, and having dug through they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. ⁵ And Jesus, seeing their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Child, your sins have been forgiven you." ⁶ And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?" ⁸ And immediately, when Jesus recognized in His spirit that they were reasoning thus among themselves, He said to them, "Why are you reasoning these things in your hearts? ⁹ Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins have been forgiven,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? ¹⁰ But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic, ¹¹ "I say to you, arise, and take up your pallet, and go to your house." ¹² And immediately he arose, and taking his pallet, he went out before them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!" ¹³ Then He went out again alongside the sea; and all the crowd was coming to Him, and He was teaching them. ¹⁴ And passing by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and He said to him, "Follow Me." And arising, he followed Him. ¹⁵ Now it came about, as He was dining in Levi's house, that many tax collectors and sinners were dining together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. ¹⁶ And the scribes and Pharisees, seeing Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, said to His disciples, "Why does He eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" ¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are ill. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." ¹⁸ And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, "Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?" ¹⁹ And Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they are not able to fast. ²⁰ But days shall come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast in those days. ²¹ No one sews a patch of a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else it takes away its completeness, the new piece from the old garment, and the tear becomes worse. ²² And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine spills out, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins." ²³ Now it came about as He was going through the grainfields on the Sabbath, that His disciples began to make their way picking the heads of grain. ²⁴ And the Pharisees said to Him, "Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?" ²⁵ But He said to them, "Did you not read what David did when he had need, and became hungry, he and those with him? ²⁶ How he entered into the house of God at the time Abiathar was high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat, except for the priests, and also gave to those who were with him?" ²⁷ And He said to them, "The Sabbath came into being for the sake of man, and not man for the sake of the Sabbath. ²⁸ So then the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath."

¹ Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were drawing near to Him to hear Him. ² And the Pharisees and scribes were grumbling, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you desire to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

¹⁰ For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he has become guilty of all.

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but rather confined them to Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, reserved for judgment;

⁵ And you know that He appeared that He might take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. ⁶ Everyone who abides in Him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen Him nor has he known Him. ⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. ⁸ He who practices sin is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God appeared, that He might destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ No one who has been born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. ¹⁰ By this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

²⁰ For there is not a righteous man in the earth who will do good, and not sin.

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other, or else he will be devoted to the one, and he will despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

⁸ For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, ⁹ not of works, lest anyone should boast.

⁸ But the cowardly, and unbelieving, and sinners, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and drug users, and idolaters, and all who are false shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

⁹ The Lord does not delay concerning His promise, as some reckon slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for those who do not sin unto death. There is a sin leading to death. I do not say that he should ask about that.

⁸ But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are ill. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
