2 Samuel 3:36

36 And all the people took notice, and all things that the king did before the people were pleasing in their sight.

Proverbs 29:23

23 Pride brings a man low, but the Lord upholds the humble-minded with honor.

1 Peter 5:8

8 Be sober, be watchful; your adversary the devil walks about as a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour.

James 4:4

4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world is constituted an enemy of God.

1 Samuel 16:7

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance, nor on his stature, for I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

Proverbs 3:1-4

1 My son, forget not my laws, but let your heart keep my words: 2 for length of days, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to you. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; but bind them about your neck: 4 so shall you find favor; and provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.

Proverbs 29:25

25 Those fearing and reverencing men unreasonably have been overthrown, but he that trusts in the Lord shall rejoice. Ungodliness causes a man to stumble, but he that trusts in his master shall be safe.

James 2:1-13

1 My brothers, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if a man enters into your assembly with a gold ring, in fine clothes, and there should also come in a poor man in dirty clothes, 3 and you have respect for him that wears the fine clothes and you say to him, "You sit here in a good seat," and say to the poor man, "You stand there," or, "Sit here under my footstool," 4 and so did you not differentiate among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those that love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the noble name by which you are called? 8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he has become guilty of all. 11 For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "You shall not murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but yet you murder, then you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who does not show mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Luke 6:26

26 Woe to you when men speak well of you, for in like manner their fathers would do to the false prophets.

Romans 12:2

2 And do not fashion yourselves after this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

Proverbs 13:20

20 If you walk with wise men you shall be wise, but he that walks with fools shall be known.

Luke 14:7-14

7 So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the places of honor, saying to them: 8 Whenever you are invited by someone to a wedding celebration, do not sit down in the place of honor, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you and him shall come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you begin with shame to take the last place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the last place, so that when he who invited you comes, he shall say to you, 'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will have glory in the presence of those who recline with you. 11 For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted." 12 Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you give a dinner or a supper, do not call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. 13 But whenever you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; 14 and you will be blessed, because they do not have anything to repay you; for it will be repaid to you in the resurrection of the just."

Luke 9:25

25 For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?
