¹⁵ And if a man has two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and both the loved and the hated should have born him children, and the son of the hated should be firstborn; ¹⁶ then it shall be that whenever he shall divide by inheritance his goods to his sons, he shall not be able to give the right of the firstborn to the son of the loved one, having overlooked the son of the hated, which is the firstborn. ¹⁷ But he shall acknowledge the firstborn of the hated one, to give to him double of all things which shall be found by him, because he is the first of his children, and to him belongs the birthright.

¹³ Then someone from the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." ¹⁴ But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" ¹⁵ And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." ¹⁶ Then He told a parable to them, saying: "The field of a certain rich man produced well. ¹⁷ And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and I will build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my crops and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' ²¹ So is he who accumulates treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

²⁵ Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. ²⁶ And having summoned one of the servants, he was inquiring what these things might be. ²⁷ And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and because he has received him back in good health, your father has killed the fatted calf.' ²⁸ But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and began to plead with him. ²⁹ So he answered and said to his father, 'Lo, so many years I have been serving you and I never transgressed your commandment; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. ³⁰ But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fatted calf for him.' ³¹ And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.

¹⁸ the eyes of your heart having been enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are: adultery, fornication, immorality, lewdness, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, ²¹ envies, murders, drinking bouts, revelries, and the like; which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer together, so that we may also be glorified together.

⁷ that having been justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

²⁹ But the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell upon it forever.

³² So for the present, I entrust you, brothers, to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who have been sanctified.

²¹ A portion hastily gotten at first shall not be blessed in the end.

²³ And whatever you may do, work it from your soul, as to the Lord and not to men, ²⁴ knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. For you serve the Lord Christ.

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, ¹² so that we should be to the praise of His glory, we who first trusted in Christ; ¹³ in whom also you, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, ¹⁴ who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory.

²² A good man shall inherit children's children, and the wealth of ungodly men is laid up for the just.
