Deuteronomy 21:15-17

15 And if a man has two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and both the loved and the hated should have born him children, and the son of the hated should be firstborn; 16 then it shall be that whenever he shall divide by inheritance his goods to his sons, he shall not be able to give the right of the firstborn to the son of the loved one, having overlooked the son of the hated, which is the firstborn. 17 But he shall acknowledge the firstborn of the hated one, to give to him double of all things which shall be found by him, because he is the first of his children, and to him belongs the birthright.

Luke 12:13-21

13 Then someone from the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." 14 But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" 15 And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16 Then He told a parable to them, saying: "The field of a certain rich man produced well. 17 And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?' 18 So he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and I will build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." ' 20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' 21 So is he who accumulates treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Luke 15:25-31

25 Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And having summoned one of the servants, he was inquiring what these things might be. 27 And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and because he has received him back in good health, your father has killed the fatted calf.' 28 But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and began to plead with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, 'Lo, so many years I have been serving you and I never transgressed your commandment; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fatted calf for him.' 31 And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.
