²⁴ Be not companion to a furious man, neither lodge with a passionate man, ²⁵ lest you learn of his ways, and ensnare your soul. ²⁶ Become not surety from respect of a man's person. ²⁷ For if those have not anything to give compensation, they will take the bed that is under you.

⁹ He that conceals injuries seeks love, but he that hates to hide them separates friends and kindred.

¹² This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no one than this, that one should lay down his life on behalf of his friends. ¹⁴ You are My friends if you do what I command you.

¹² that is, that I may be encouraged together among you through the mutual faith both of you and me.

²⁴ And let us consider one another for the stirring up of love and of good works, ²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, just as is the custom for some, but exhorting one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

¹⁴ Mercy has rejected me; and the visitation of the Lord has disregarded me.

⁹ The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes, but the soul is broken by calamities.

⁶ The wounds of a friend are more to be trusted than the spontaneous kisses of an enemy.

¹⁷ Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens his friend's countenance.
