³³ Their wine is the rage of serpents, and the incurable rage of asps.

¹⁹ For You have laid us low in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.

^{1 (40:20)} But will you catch the serpent with a hook, and put a halter about his nose? ^{2 (40:21)} Or will you fasten a ring in his nostril, and bore his lip with a clasp? ^{3 (40:22)} Will he address you with a petition? Softly, with the voice of a suppliant? ^{4 (40:23)} And will he make a covenant with you? And will you take him for a perpetual servant? ^{5 (40:24)} And will you play with him as with a bird? Or bind him as a sparrow for a child? ^{6 (40:25)} And do the nations feed upon him, and the nations of the Phoenicians share him? ^{7 (40:26)} And all the ships come together would not be able to bear the mere skin of his tail, neither shall they carry his head in fishing vessels. ^{8 (40:27)} But you shall lay your hand upon him once, remembering the war that is waged by his mouth; and let it not be done anymore. ^{9 (41:0)} Have you not seen him? And have you not wondered at the things said of him? ^{10 (41:1)} Do you not fear because preparation has been made by Me? For who is there that resists Me? ^{11 (41:2)} Or who will resist Me, and stand their ground, since the whole world under heaven is Mine? ^{12 (41:3)} I will not be silent because of him: though because of his power one shall pity his antagonist. ^{13 (41:4)} Who will open the face of his garment? And who can enter within the fold of his breastplate? ^{14 (41:5)} Who will open the doors of his face? Terror is round about his teeth. ^{15 (41:6)} His inwards are as bronze plates, and the texture of his skin as a smyrite stone. ^{16 (41:7)} One part cleaves fast to another, and the air cannot come between them. ^{17 (41:8)} They will remain united each to the other: they are closely joined, and cannot be separated. ^{18 (41:9)} At his sneezing a light shines, and his eyes are as the appearance of the morning star. ^{19 (41:10)} Out of his mouth proceed as it were burning lamps, and as it were hearths of fire are cast abroad. ^{20 (41:11)} Out of his nostrils proceeds smoke of a furnace burning with fire of coals. ^{21 (41:12)} His breath is as live coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. ^{22 (41:13)} And power is lodged in his neck, before him destruction runs. ^{23 (41:14)} The flesh also of his body is joined together: if one pours violence upon him, he shall not be moved. ^{24 (41:15)} His heart is firm as a stone, and it stands like an unyielding anvil. ^{25 (41:16)} And when he turns, he is a terror to the four-footed wild beasts which leap upon the earth. ^{26 (41:17)} If spears should come against him, men will effect nothing, neither with the spear or the breast plate. ^{27 (41:18)} For he considers iron as chaff, and brass as rotten wood. ^{28 (41:19)} The bow of brass shall not wound him, he deems a slinger as grass. ^{29 (41:20)} Mauls are counted as stubble; and he laughs to scorn the waving of the firebrand. ^{30 (41:21)} His lair is formed of sharp points, and all the gold of the sea under him is an immense quantity of clay. ^{31 (41:22)} He makes the deep boil like a bronze caldron, and he regards the sea as a pot of ointment, ^{32 (41:23)} and the lowest part of the deep as a captive: he reckons the deep as his range. ^{33 (41:24)} There is nothing upon the earth like him, formed to be sported with by My angels. ^{34 (41:25)} He beholds every high thing, and he is king of all that are in the waters.

¹³ You established the sea in Your might, You broke to pieces the heads of the dragons in the water.

⁷ Praise the Lord from the earth, you serpents, and all the depths.

¹³ You shall tread on the asp and basilisk; and you shall trample on the lion and dragon.

¹³ And thorns shall spring up in their cities, and in her strongholds; and they shall be habitations of monsters, and a court of ostriches.

²² and satyrs shall dwell there; and hedgehogs shall make their nests in their houses. It will come soon, and will not tarry.

⁹ Awake, awake, O Jerusalem, and put on the strength of your arm; awake as in the early time, as the ancient generation.

²⁰ the beasts of the field shall bless Me, the owls and young ostriches; for I have given water in the wilderness, and rivers in the dry land, to give drink to My chosen race,

⁷ And the dry land shall become pools, and a fountain of water shall be poured into the thirsty land; there shall there be a joy of birds, ready habitations and marshes.

³⁴ He has devoured me, he has torn me asunder, airy darkness has come upon me; Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has swallowed me up, as a dragon has he filled his belly with my delicacies.

⁶ The wild donkeys stood by the forests, and snuffed up the wind; their eyes failed, because there was no grass.

¹¹ And I will remove the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and make it a dwelling place of dragons; and I will utterly waste the cities of Judah, so that they shall not be inhabited.

³ and say, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am against you O Pharaoh, the great dragon that lies in the midst of his rivers, that says, The rivers are mine, and I made them.

³ and hated Esau and laid waste his borders, and made his heritage as dwellings of the wilderness?

⁸ Therefore shall she lament and wail, she shall go barefooted, and being naked she shall make lamentation as that of serpents, and mourning as of the daughters of sirens.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

³ And another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great, fiery dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns on his heads.

² And he seized the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, he who deceives the whole world, and he bound him for a thousand years;

¹ And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman having been clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. ² And being pregnant, she was crying out, being in labor and being in great pain to give birth. ³ And another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great, fiery dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns on his heads. ⁴ And his tail dragged a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that whenever she might give birth, he might devour her Child. ⁵ And she gave birth to a Son, a male who would shepherd all the nations with an iron rod. And her Child was caught up to God and to His throne. ⁶ Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place having been prepared by God, so that they may nourish her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days. ⁷ And there came to be war in heaven: Michael and his angels, waging war with the dragon; and the dragon made war, and his angels, ⁸ and he did not prevail, nor was a place found for him any longer in heaven. ⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. ¹⁰ Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ, because the accuser of our brothers, the one who accused them before our God day and night, has been thrown out of heaven. ¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. ¹² Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the earth and to the sea! Because the devil was thrown down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time." ¹³ Now when the dragon saw that he was cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. ¹⁴ And the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly into the desert to her place, so that she might be nourished there for a time and times and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ And the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a river after the woman, so that he might cause her to be carried off by the river. ¹⁶ But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon had cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went off to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus.

¹ In that day God shall bring His holy and great and strong sword upon the dragon, even the serpent that flees, upon the dragon, the crooked serpent; He shall destroy the dragon.
