Mark 12:41-44

41 Καὶ (And) καθίσας (having sat down) κατέναντι (opposite) τοῦ (the) γαζοφυλακίου (treasury), ἐθεώρει (He was watching) πῶς (how) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) βάλλει (cast) χαλκὸν (money) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) γαζοφυλάκιον (treasury); καὶ (and) πολλοὶ (many) πλούσιοι (rich) ἔβαλλον (were casting in) πολλά (much). 42 καὶ (And) ἐλθοῦσα (having come), μία (one) χήρα (widow) πτωχὴ (poor) ἔβαλεν (cast in) λεπτὰ (lepta) δύο (two), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) κοδράντης (a kodrantes). 43 Καὶ (And) προσκαλεσάμενος (having called to Him) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἶπεν (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ἡ (the) χήρα (widow) αὕτη (this) ἡ (-) πτωχὴ (poor), πλεῖον (more) πάντων (than all) ἔβαλεν (has cast in) τῶν (of those) βαλλόντων (casting) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) γαζοφυλάκιον (treasury). 44 πάντες (All) γὰρ (for) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (that which) περισσεύοντος (was abounding) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἔβαλον (cast in); αὕτη (she) δὲ (however), ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ὑστερήσεως (poverty) αὐτῆς (of her), πάντα (all) ὅσα (as much as) εἶχεν (she had) ἔβαλεν (cast in), ὅλον (all) τὸν (the) βίον (livelihood) αὐτῆς (of her).”

1 Corinthians 7:8

8 Λέγω (I say) δὲ (now) τοῖς (to the) ἀγάμοις (unmarried) καὶ (and) ταῖς (to the) χήραις (widows), καλὸν (it is good) αὐτοῖς (for them) ἐὰν (if) μείνωσιν (they should remain) ὡς (as) κἀγώ (even I).

1 Timothy 5:3-6

3 Χήρας (Widows) τίμα (honor), τὰς (who are) ὄντως (truly) χήρας (widows). 4 εἰ (If) δέ (however) τις (any) χήρα (widow), τέκνα (children) ἢ (or) ἔκγονα (grandchildren) ἔχει (has), μανθανέτωσαν (let them learn) πρῶτον (first) τὸν (to the) ἴδιον (own) οἶκον (household) εὐσεβεῖν (to be devout) καὶ (and) ἀμοιβὰς (recompense) ἀποδιδόναι (to give) τοῖς (to) προγόνοις (parents); τοῦτο (this) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἀπόδεκτον (pleasing) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God). 5 Ἡ (She who is) δὲ (now) ὄντως (indeed) χήρα (a widow), καὶ (and) μεμονωμένη (being left alone), ἤλπικεν (has hope) ἐπὶ (in) Θεὸν (God), καὶ (and) προσμένει (continues) ταῖς (-) δεήσεσιν (in supplications) καὶ (and) ταῖς (-) προσευχαῖς (prayers) νυκτὸς (night) καὶ (and) ἡμέρας (day). 6 ἡ (She) δὲ (however) σπαταλῶσα (living in self-indulgence), ζῶσα (while living) τέθνηκεν (is dead).

James 1:27

27 θρησκεία (Religion) καθαρὰ (pure) καὶ (and) ἀμίαντος (undefiled) παρὰ (before) τῷ (the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρὶ (Father) αὕτη (this) ἐστίν (is), ἐπισκέπτεσθαι (to visit) ὀρφανοὺς (orphans) καὶ (and) χήρας (widows) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θλίψει (tribulation) αὐτῶν (of them); ἄσπιλον (unstained) ἑαυτὸν (oneself) τηρεῖν (to keep) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world).
