³² Θέλω (I desire) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀμερίμνους (without concern) εἶναι (to be). ὁ (The) ἄγαμος (unmarried man) μεριμνᾷ (cares for) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), πῶς (how) ἀρέσῃ (he should please) τῷ (the) Κυρίῳ (Lord); ³³ ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) γαμήσας (having been married), μεριμνᾷ (cares for) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), πῶς (how) ἀρέσῃ (he should please) τῇ (the) γυναικί (wife), ³⁴ καὶ (and) μεμέρισται (is divided). καὶ (And) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἡ (-) ἄγαμος (unmarried) καὶ (and) ἡ (-) παρθένος (virgin), μεριμνᾷ (cares for) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), ἵνα (that) ᾖ (she should be) ἁγία (holy) καὶ (both) τῷ (in) σώματι (body) καὶ (and) τῷ (in) πνεύματι (spirit); ἡ (the one) δὲ (however) γαμήσασα (having been married), μεριμνᾷ (cares for) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), πῶς (how) ἀρέσῃ (she should please) τῷ (the) ἀνδρί (husband). ³⁵ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (now) πρὸς (for) τὸ (the) ὑμῶν (of you) αὐτῶν (yourselves) σύμφορον (benefit) λέγω (I say), οὐχ (not) ἵνα (that) βρόχον (a restraint) ὑμῖν (you) ἐπιβάλω (I might place upon), ἀλλὰ (but) πρὸς (for) τὸ (what) εὔσχημον (is seemly) καὶ (and) εὐπάρεδρον (devoted) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), ἀπερισπάστως (without distraction).

³ Τοῦτο (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) θέλημα (the will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (the) ἁγιασμὸς (sanctification) ὑμῶν (of you): ἀπέχεσθαι (To abstain) ὑμᾶς (you are) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) πορνείας (sexual immorality); ⁴ εἰδέναι (to know) ἕκαστον (each) ὑμῶν (of you how) τὸ (the) ἑαυτοῦ (of himself) σκεῦος (vessel) κτᾶσθαι (to control) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness) καὶ (and) τιμῇ (honor), ⁵ μὴ (not) ἐν (in) πάθει (the passion) ἐπιθυμίας (of lust), καθάπερ (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles), τὰ (-) μὴ (not) εἰδότα (knowing) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God);

¹ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) οὖν (therefore) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), διὰ (through) τῶν (the) οἰκτιρμῶν (compassions) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), παραστῆσαι (to present) τὰ (the) σώματα (bodies) ὑμῶν (of you) θυσίαν (a sacrifice) ζῶσαν (living), ἁγίαν (holy), «τῷ (-) Θεῷ» (to God) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing), τὴν (which is) λογικὴν (the reasonable) λατρείαν (service) ὑμῶν (of you). ² καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συσχηματίζεσθε (be conformed) τῷ (to the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταμορφοῦσθε (be transformed) τῇ (by the) ἀνακαινώσει (renewing) τοῦ (of the) νοός (mind), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) δοκιμάζειν (to prove) ὑμᾶς (by you), τί (what is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) καὶ (and) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) καὶ (and) τέλειον (perfect).

⁴ οὗτοί (These) εἰσιν (are) οἳ (they who) μετὰ (with) γυναικῶν (women) οὐκ (not) ἐμολύνθησαν (have not been defiled); παρθένοι (pure) γάρ (for) εἰσιν (they are), οὗτοι (these) οἱ (-) ἀκολουθοῦντες (following) τῷ (the) Ἀρνίῳ (Lamb) ὅπου (wherever) ἂν (-) ὑπάγῃ (He shall go). οὗτοι (These) ἠγοράσθησαν (have been redeemed) ἀπὸ (out from) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἀπαρχὴ (as firstfruits) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) καὶ (and) τῷ (to the) Ἀρνίῳ (Lamb).

⁶ ἀπὸ (From), δὲ (however), ἀρχῆς (the beginning) κτίσεως (of creation), ‘Ἄρσεν (Male) καὶ (and) θῆλυ (female) ἐποίησεν (He made) αὐτούς (them).’ ⁷ ‘Ἕνεκεν (On account of) τούτου (this), καταλείψει (will leave) ἄνθρωπος (a man) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) μητέρα (mother) ‹καὶ (and) προσκολληθήσεται (be joined) πρὸς (to) τὴν (-) γυναῖκα (wife) αὐτοῦ› (his), ⁸ καὶ (and) ἔσονται (will be) οἱ (the) δύο (two) εἰς (for) σάρκα (flesh) μίαν (one).’ ὥστε (Therefore) οὐκέτι (no longer) εἰσὶν (they are) δύο (two), ἀλλὰ (but) μία (one) σάρξ (flesh).

⁹ Ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἄδικοι (the unrighteous ones) Θεοῦ (of God) βασιλείαν (the kingdom) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit)? μὴ (Not) πλανᾶσθε (be deceived): οὔτε (neither) πόρνοι (the sexually immoral), οὔτε (nor) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), οὔτε (nor) μοιχοὶ (adulterers), οὔτε (nor) μαλακοὶ (effeminate), οὔτε (nor) ἀρσενοκοῖται (homosexuals), ¹⁰ οὔτε (nor) κλέπται (thieves), οὔτε (nor) πλεονέκται (coveters), οὐ (not) μέθυσοι (drunkards), οὐ (nor) λοίδοροι (verbal abusers), οὐχ (nor) ἅρπαγες (swindlers), βασιλείαν (the kingdom) Θεοῦ (of God) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit). ¹¹ καὶ (And) ταῦτά (such) τινες (some of) ἦτε (you were); ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπελούσασθε (you were washed), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡγιάσθητε (you were sanctified), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐδικαιώθητε (you were justified), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us).

¹⁸ Φεύγετε (Flee) τὴν (-) πορνείαν (sexual immorality). πᾶν (Every) ἁμάρτημα (sin), ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) ποιήσῃ (might do) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐκτὸς (outside) τοῦ (the) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) πορνεύων (sinning sexually), εἰς (against) τὸ (the) ἴδιον (own) σῶμα (body) ἁμαρτάνει (sins). ¹⁹ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) ὑμῶν (of you) ναὸς (a temple) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is), οὗ (whom) ἔχετε (you have) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (you are) ἑαυτῶν (your own), ²⁰ ἠγοράσθητε (you were bought) γὰρ (for) τιμῆς (with a price); δοξάσατε (glorify) δὴ (therefore) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματι (body) ὑμῶν (of you).

³ Τοῦτο (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) θέλημα (the will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (the) ἁγιασμὸς (sanctification) ὑμῶν (of you): ἀπέχεσθαι (To abstain) ὑμᾶς (you are) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) πορνείας (sexual immorality); ⁴ εἰδέναι (to know) ἕκαστον (each) ὑμῶν (of you how) τὸ (the) ἑαυτοῦ (of himself) σκεῦος (vessel) κτᾶσθαι (to control) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness) καὶ (and) τιμῇ (honor), ⁵ μὴ (not) ἐν (in) πάθει (the passion) ἐπιθυμίας (of lust), καθάπερ (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles), τὰ (-) μὴ (not) εἰδότα (knowing) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God); ⁶ τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ὑπερβαίνειν (to go beyond) καὶ (and) πλεονεκτεῖν (to overreach) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πράγματι (matter), τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), διότι (because) ἔκδικος (avenging is) Κύριος (the Lord) περὶ (concerning) πάντων (all) τούτων (these things), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) προείπαμεν (we told before) ὑμῖν (you), καὶ (and) διεμαρτυράμεθα (thoroughly warned). ⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐκάλεσεν (has called) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐπὶ (to) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (into) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness). ⁸ τοιγαροῦν (So then), ὁ (the one) ἀθετῶν (rejecting this), οὐκ (not) ἄνθρωπον (man) ἀθετεῖ (disregards), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), τὸν (the One) καὶ (also) διδόντα (giving) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὸ (-) ἅγιον (Holy) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁸ Λέγω (I say) δὲ (now) τοῖς (to the) ἀγάμοις (unmarried) καὶ (and) ταῖς (to the) χήραις (widows), καλὸν (it is good) αὐτοῖς (for them) ἐὰν (if) μείνωσιν (they should remain) ὡς (as) κἀγώ (even I). ⁹ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) ἐγκρατεύονται (they have self-control), γαμησάτωσαν (let them marry); κρεῖττον (better) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (it is) γαμῆσαι* (to marry) ἢ (than) πυροῦσθαι (to burn with passion).

⁴ Τίμιος (Honorable let) ὁ (-) γάμος (marriage be) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κοίτη (marriage bed) ἀμίαντος (undefiled); πόρνους (the sexually immoral) γὰρ (for) καὶ (and) μοιχοὺς (adulterers) κρινεῖ (will judge) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).

² διὰ (Because of) δὲ (however) τὰς (-) πορνείας (sexual immorality), ἕκαστος (each man) τὴν (the own) ἑαυτοῦ (of him) γυναῖκα (wife) ἐχέτω (let have), καὶ (and) ἑκάστη (each woman) τὸν (the) ἴδιον (own) ἄνδρα (husband) ἐχέτω (let have).
