²⁴ Οὐδεὶς (No one) δύναται (is able) δυσὶ (two) κυρίοις (masters) δουλεύειν (to serve); ἢ (either) γὰρ (for) τὸν (the) ἕνα (one) μισήσει (he will hate), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) ἕτερον (other) ἀγαπήσει (he will love); ἢ (or) ἑνὸς (the one) ἀνθέξεται (he will be devoted to), καὶ (and) τοῦ (the) ἑτέρου (other) καταφρονήσει (he will despise). οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) Θεῷ (God) δουλεύειν (to serve), καὶ (and) μαμωνᾷ (money).

³⁶ Τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφελεῖ (does it profit) ἄνθρωπον (a man) κερδῆσαι (to gain) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole) καὶ (and) ζημιωθῆναι (to lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (soul) αὐτοῦ (of him)?

³⁴ Οὐδὲ (Not even) γὰρ (for) ἐνδεής (in need) τις (anyone) ἦν (there was) ἐν (among) αὐτοῖς (them); ὅσοι (as many as) γὰρ (for) κτήτορες (owners) χωρίων (of lands) ἢ (or) οἰκιῶν (houses) ὑπῆρχον (were) πωλοῦντες (selling them), ἔφερον (were bringing) τὰς (the) τιμὰς (proceeds) τῶν (of what) πιπρασκομένων (is sold),

²⁷ θρησκεία (Religion) καθαρὰ (pure) καὶ (and) ἀμίαντος (undefiled) παρὰ (before) τῷ (the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρὶ (Father) αὕτη (this) ἐστίν (is), ἐπισκέπτεσθαι (to visit) ὀρφανοὺς (orphans) καὶ (and) χήρας (widows) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θλίψει (tribulation) αὐτῶν (of them); ἄσπιλον (unstained) ἑαυτὸν (oneself) τηρεῖν (to keep) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world).

²¹ Οὐ (Not) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) λέγων (saying) μοι (to Me), ‘Κύριε (Lord), Κύριε (Lord),’ εἰσελεύσεται (will enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens), ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (the one) ποιῶν (doing) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens). ²² πολλοὶ (Many) ἐροῦσίν (will say) μοι (to Me) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day), ‘Κύριε (Lord), Κύριε (Lord), οὐ (not) τῷ (in) σῷ (Your) ὀνόματι (name) ἐπροφητεύσαμεν (did we prophesy), καὶ (and) τῷ (in) σῷ (Your) ὀνόματι (name) δαιμόνια (demons) ἐξεβάλομεν (cast out), καὶ (and) τῷ (in) σῷ (your) ὀνόματι (name) δυνάμεις (miracles) πολλὰς (many) ἐποιήσαμεν (perform)?’ ²³ καὶ (And) τότε (then) ὁμολογήσω (I will declare) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), ‘Οὐδέποτε (Never) ἔγνων (knew I) ὑμᾶς (you); ἀποχωρεῖτε (depart you) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me), οἱ (those) ἐργαζόμενοι (working) τὴν (-) ἀνομίαν (lawlessness).’

⁶ Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now): ὁ (The one) σπείρων (sowing) φειδομένως (sparingly), φειδομένως (sparingly) καὶ (also) θερίσει (will reap); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) σπείρων (sowing) ἐπ’ (upon) εὐλογίαις (blessings), ἐπ’ (upon) εὐλογίαις (blessings) καὶ (also) θερίσει (will reap),

¹⁰ ῥίζα (A root) γὰρ (for) πάντων (of all kinds) τῶν (-) κακῶν (of evils) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) φιλαργυρία (love of money), ἧς (which) τινες (some) ὀρεγόμενοι (stretching after) ἀπεπλανήθησαν (have been seduced) ἀπὸ (away from) τῆς (the) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) περιέπειραν (have pierced) ὀδύναις (with sorrows) πολλαῖς (many).

²⁶ τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφεληθήσεται (will it profit) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐὰν (if) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole) κερδήσῃ (he gains), τὴν (-) δὲ (but) ψυχὴν (the soul) αὐτοῦ (of him) ζημιωθῇ (loses)? ἢ (Or) τί (what) δώσει (will give) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀντάλλαγμα (as an exchange for) τῆς (the) ψυχῆς (soul) αὐτοῦ (of him)?

¹⁹ Μὴ (Not) θησαυρίζετε (store up) ὑμῖν (for yourselves) θησαυροὺς (treasures) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ὅπου (where) σὴς (moth) καὶ (and) βρῶσις (rust) ἀφανίζει (destroy), καὶ (and) ὅπου (where) κλέπται (thieves) διορύσσουσιν (break in) καὶ (and) κλέπτουσιν (steal); ²⁰ θησαυρίζετε (store up) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (for yourselves) θησαυροὺς (treasures) ἐν (in) οὐρανῷ (heaven), ὅπου (where) οὔτε (neither) σὴς (moth) οὔτε (nor) βρῶσις (rust) ἀφανίζει (destroy), καὶ (and) ὅπου (where) κλέπται (thieves) οὐ (not) διορύσσουσιν (do break in) οὐδὲ (nor) κλέπτουσιν (steal). ²¹ ὅπου (Where) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) θησαυρός (treasure) σου (of you), ἐκεῖ (there) ἔσται (will be) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) σου (of you).

³⁵ πάντα (In everything) ὑπέδειξα (I showed) ὑμῖν (you) ὅτι (that) οὕτως (by thus) κοπιῶντας (straining) δεῖ (it behooves us) ἀντιλαμβάνεσθαι (to aid) τῶν (those) ἀσθενούντων (being weak), μνημονεύειν (to remember) τε (and also) τῶν (the) λόγων (words) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ὅτι (how) αὐτὸς (He Himself) εἶπεν (said), ‘Μακάριόν (Blessed) ἐστιν (it is) μᾶλλον (more) διδόναι (to give) ἢ (than) λαμβάνειν (to receive).’”

¹⁷ Τοῖς (To the) πλουσίοις (rich) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) νῦν (present) αἰῶνι (age), παράγγελλε (instruct them) μὴ (not) ὑψηλοφρονεῖν (to be high-minded), μηδὲ (nor) ἠλπικέναι (to have hope) ἐπὶ (in) πλούτου (of riches) ἀδηλότητι (the uncertainty), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐπὶ (on) Θεῷ (God) τῷ (the One) παρέχοντι (providing) ἡμῖν (us) πάντα (all things) πλουσίως (richly) εἰς (for) ἀπόλαυσιν (enjoyment), ¹⁸ ἀγαθοεργεῖν (to do good), πλουτεῖν (to be rich) ἐν (in) ἔργοις (works) καλοῖς (good), εὐμεταδότους (generous in distributing) εἶναι (to be), κοινωνικούς (ready to share), ¹⁹ ἀποθησαυρίζοντας (treasuring up) ἑαυτοῖς (for themselves) θεμέλιον (a foundation) καλὸν (good) εἰς (for) τὸ (the) μέλλον (future), ἵνα (so that) ἐπιλάβωνται (they may take hold) τῆς (of) ὄντως (that which is indeed) ζωῆς (life).
