²² Μακάριοί (Blessed) ἐστε (are you) ὅταν (when) μισήσωσιν (shall hate) ὑμᾶς (you) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men), καὶ (and) ὅταν (when) ἀφορίσωσιν (they shall exclude) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) ὀνειδίσωσιν (shall insult you), καὶ (and) ἐκβάλωσιν (shall cast out) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) ὑμῶν (of you) ὡς (as) πονηρὸν (evil), ἕνεκα (on account of) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).

¹⁷ μηδενὶ (To no one) κακὸν (evil) ἀντὶ (for) κακοῦ (evil) ἀποδιδόντες (repaying), προνοούμενοι (providing) καλὰ (right) ἐνώπιον (before) πάντων (all) ἀνθρώπων (men); ¹⁸ εἰ (if) δυνατόν (possible) τὸ (-) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you), μετὰ (with) πάντων (all) ἀνθρώπων (men) εἰρηνεύοντες (living at peace); ¹⁹ μὴ (never) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) ἐκδικοῦντες (avenging), ἀγαπητοί (beloved); ἀλλὰ (instead) δότε (give) τόπον (place) τῇ (-) ὀργῇ (to wrath); γέγραπται (it has been written) γάρ (for): “Ἐμοὶ (Mine is) ἐκδίκησις (vengeance), ἐγὼ (I) ἀνταποδώσω (will repay), λέγει (says the) Κύριος (Lord).” ²⁰ Ἀλλὰ (On the contrary), “Ἐὰν (If) πεινᾷ (should hunger) ὁ (the) ἐχθρός (enemy) σου (of you), ψώμιζε (feed) αὐτόν (him); ἐὰν (if) διψᾷ (he should thirst), πότιζε (give drink) αὐτόν (him); τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (for) ποιῶν (doing), ἄνθρακας (coals) πυρὸς (of fire) σωρεύσεις (you will heap) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) αὐτοῦ (of him).” ²¹ Μὴ (Not) νικῶ (be overcome) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) κακοῦ (evil), ἀλλὰ (but) νίκα (overcome) ἐν (with) τῷ (-) ἀγαθῷ (good) τὸ (-) κακόν (evil).

¹⁰ διὸ (Therefore) εὐδοκῶ (I take pleasure) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses), ἐν (in) ὕβρεσιν (insults), ἐν (in) ἀνάγκαις (hardships), ἐν (in) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), καὶ (and) στενοχωρίαις (difficulties) ὑπὲρ (for) Χριστοῦ (Christ); ὅταν (when) γὰρ (for) ἀσθενῶ (I might be weak), τότε (then) δυνατός (strong) εἰμι (I am).

¹⁴ Ἀλλ’ (But) εἰ (if) καὶ (even) πάσχοιτε (you should suffer) διὰ (because of) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), μακάριοι (you are blessed). “Τὸν (-) δὲ (And) φόβον (the threats) αὐτῶν (of them) μὴ (not) φοβηθῆτε (you should be afraid of), μηδὲ (neither) ταραχθῆτε (should you be troubled).”

¹⁶ συνείδησιν (a conscience) ἔχοντες (having) ἀγαθήν (good), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) ᾧ (this) καταλαλεῖσθε (they might speak against you), καταισχυνθῶσιν (they shall be ashamed) οἱ (those) ἐπηρεάζοντες (reviling) ὑμῶν (your) τὴν (-) ἀγαθὴν (good) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἀναστροφήν (manner of life).

¹³ [καὶ] (And) Μὴ (not) θαυμάζετε (be surprised), ἀδελφοί (brothers), εἰ (if) μισεῖ (hates) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world).

¹⁰ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) δεδιωγμένοι (having been persecuted) ἕνεκεν (on account of) δικαιοσύνης (righteousness), Ὅτι (for) αὐτῶν (theirs) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens).

¹⁷ κρεῖττον (It is better) γὰρ (for) ἀγαθοποιοῦντας (doing good) εἰ (if) θέλοι (wills it) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), πάσχειν (to suffer), ἢ (than) κακοποιοῦντας (doing evil),

⁴⁴ ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λέγω (say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) προσεύχεσθε (pray) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (those) διωκόντων (persecuting) ὑμᾶς (you),

¹² Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), μὴ (not) ξενίζεσθε (be surprised at) τῇ (the) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) πυρώσει (fire) πρὸς (for) πειρασμὸν (a trial) ὑμῖν (to you) γινομένῃ (taking place), ὡς (as if) ξένου (a strange thing) ὑμῖν (to you) συμβαίνοντος (were happening). ¹³ ἀλλὰ (But) καθὸ (as) κοινωνεῖτε (you have shared) τοῖς (in the) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) παθήμασιν (sufferings), χαίρετε (rejoice), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀποκαλύψει (revelation) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), χαρῆτε (you may rejoice) ἀγαλλιώμενοι (exulting). ¹⁴ Εἰ (If) ὀνειδίζεσθε (you are insulted) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), μακάριοι (you are blessed), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀναπαύεται (rests).

¹⁸ Εἰ (If) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) ὑμᾶς (you) μισεῖ (hates), γινώσκετε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἐμὲ (Me) πρῶτον (before) ὑμῶν (you) μεμίσηκεν (it has hated).

¹² καὶ (Also) πάντες (all) δὲ (now) οἱ (-) θέλοντες (desiring) ζῆν (to live) εὐσεβῶς (piously) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) διωχθήσονται (will be persecuted).
