¹⁹ Ἄνθρωπος (A man) δέ (now) τις (certain) ἦν (there was) πλούσιος (rich), καὶ (and) ἐνεδιδύσκετο (he was clothed in) πορφύραν (purple) καὶ (and) βύσσον (fine linen), εὐφραινόμενος (making good cheer) καθ’ (every) ἡμέραν (day) λαμπρῶς (in splendor). ²⁰ πτωχὸς (A poor man) δέ (now) τις (certain) ὀνόματι (named) Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ἐβέβλητο (was laid) πρὸς (at) τὸν (the) πυλῶνα (gate) αὐτοῦ (of him), εἱλκωμένος (being full of sores) ²¹ καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμῶν (desiring) χορτασθῆναι (to be fed) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (that) πιπτόντων (falling) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table) τοῦ (of the) πλουσίου (rich man); ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (even) οἱ (the) κύνες (dogs), ἐρχόμενοι (coming), ἐπέλειχον (were licking) τὰ (the) ἕλκη (sores) αὐτοῦ (of him). ²² Ἐγένετο (It came to pass that) δὲ (then) ἀποθανεῖν (died) τὸν (the) πτωχὸν (poor man), καὶ (and) ἀπενεχθῆναι (was carried away) αὐτὸν (he) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόλπον (bosom) Ἀβραάμ (of Abraham). ἀπέθανεν (Died) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) πλούσιος (rich man) καὶ (and) ἐτάφη (was buried). ²³ καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) ᾅδῃ (Hades), ἐπάρας (having lifted up) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of him), ὑπάρχων (being) ἐν (in) βασάνοις (torment), ὁρᾷ (he sees) Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar), καὶ (and) Λάζαρον (Lazarus) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) κόλποις (bosom) αὐτοῦ (of him). ²⁴ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (he) φωνήσας (having cried out) εἶπεν (said), ‘Πάτερ (Father) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) με (me) καὶ (and) πέμψον (send) Λάζαρον (Lazarus), ἵνα (that) βάψῃ (he might dip) τὸ (the) ἄκρον (tip) τοῦ (of the) δακτύλου (finger) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὕδατος (in water) καὶ (and) καταψύξῃ (cool) τὴν (the) γλῶσσάν (tongue) μου (of me); ὅτι (for) ὀδυνῶμαι (I am suffering) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) φλογὶ (flame) ταύτῃ (this).’ ²⁵ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ‘Τέκνον (Child), μνήσθητι (remember) ὅτι (that) ἀπέλαβες (you did fully receive) τὰ (the things) ἀγαθά (good) σου (of you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ζωῇ (lifetime) σου (of you), καὶ (and) Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ὁμοίως (likewise) τὰ (the things) κακά (evil). νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ὧδε (here) παρακαλεῖται (he is comforted); σὺ (you) δὲ (now) ὀδυνᾶσαι (are suffering). ²⁶ καὶ (And) ἐν (besides) πᾶσι (all) τούτοις (these things), μεταξὺ (between) ἡμῶν (us) καὶ (and) ὑμῶν (you) χάσμα (a chasm) μέγα (great) ἐστήρικται (has been fixed), ὅπως (so that) οἱ (those) θέλοντες (desiring) διαβῆναι (to pass) ἔνθεν (from here) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) μὴ (not) δύνωνται (are able), μηδὲ (nor) ἐκεῖθεν (from there) πρὸς (to) ἡμᾶς (us) διαπερῶσιν (can they pass).’ ²⁷ Εἶπεν (He said) δέ (then), ‘Ἐρωτῶ (I implore) σε (you) οὖν (then), πάτερ (father), ἵνα (that) πέμψῃς (you would send) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) τοῦ (of the) πατρός (father) μου (of me) — ²⁸ ἔχω (I have) γὰρ (for) πέντε (five) ἀδελφούς (brothers) — ὅπως (so that) διαμαρτύρηται (he might warn) αὐτοῖς (them), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (they) ἔλθωσιν (might come) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) τοῦτον (this) τῆς (-) βασάνου (of torment).’ ²⁹ Λέγει (Says) δὲ (however) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ‘Ἔχουσι (They have) Μωϋσέα (Moses) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) προφήτας (prophets); ἀκουσάτωσαν (let them hear) αὐτῶν (them).’ ³⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), ‘Οὐχί (No), πάτερ (father) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐάν (if) τις (one) ἀπὸ (from) νεκρῶν (the dead) πορευθῇ (should go) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them), μετανοήσουσιν (they will repent).’ ³¹ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (however) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Εἰ (If) Μωϋσέως (Moses) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) οὐκ (not) ἀκούουσιν (they hear), οὐδ’* (not even) ἐάν (if) τις (one) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἀναστῇ (should rise), πεισθήσονται (will they be persuaded).’”

³¹ προϊδὼν (Having foreseen), ἐλάλησεν (he spoke) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) ἀναστάσεως (resurrection) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὅτι (that) οὔτε (neither) ἐνκατελείφθη (was He abandoned) εἰς (into) ᾅδην (Hades), οὔτε (nor) ἡ (the) σὰρξ (flesh) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἶδεν (saw) διαφθοράν (decay).

⁹ ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) ὁμολογήσῃς (you confess) ἐν (with) τῷ (the) στόματί (mouth) σου (of you), “Κύριον (The Lord is) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus),” καὶ (and) πιστεύσῃς (believe) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) σου (of you), ὅτι (that) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) αὐτὸν (Him) ἤγειρεν (raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), σωθήσῃ (you will be saved).

²³ τὰ (The) γὰρ (for) ὀψώνια (wages) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin) θάνατος (is death); τὸ (-) δὲ (but) χάρισμα (the gift) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τῷ (the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us).

² οἶδα (I know) ἄνθρωπον (a man) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ), πρὸ (ago) ἐτῶν (years) δεκατεσσάρων (fourteen)— εἴτε (whether) ἐν (in) σώματι (the body), οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know), εἴτε (or) ἐκτὸς (out of) τοῦ (the) σώματος (body), οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know), ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) οἶδεν (knows)— ἁρπαγέντα (having been caught up) τὸν (-) τοιοῦτον (such a man) ἕως (to) τρίτου (the third) οὐρανοῦ (heaven).

¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), μὴ (not) παντὶ (every) πνεύματι (spirit) πιστεύετε (believe), ἀλλὰ (but) δοκιμάζετε (test) τὰ (the) πνεύματα (spirits), εἰ (whether) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (they are), ὅτι (because) πολλοὶ (many) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets) ἐξεληλύθασιν (have gone out) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).

⁷ ὡς (just as) Σόδομα (Sodom) καὶ (and) Γόμορρα (Gomorrah) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) περὶ (around) αὐτὰς (them) πόλεις (cities), τὸν (-) ὅμοιον (in like) τρόπον (manner) τούτοις (with them) ἐκπορνεύσασαι (having indulged in sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀπελθοῦσαι (having gone) ὀπίσω (after) σαρκὸς (flesh) ἑτέρας (strange), πρόκεινται (are set forth as) δεῖγμα (an example) πυρὸς (of fire) αἰωνίου (eternal) δίκην (the penalty) ὑπέχουσαι (undergoing).

¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One); καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I was) νεκρὸς (dead), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνον (a throne) μέγαν (great) λευκὸν (white), καὶ (and) τὸν (the One) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (it), οὗ (whose) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) προσώπου (face) ἔφυγεν (fled) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) οὐρανός (heaven), καὶ (and) τόπος (place) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) αὐτοῖς (for them). ¹² καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) νεκρούς (dead), τοὺς (-) μεγάλους (great) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) μικρούς (small), ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) βιβλία (books) ἠνοίχθησαν (were opened). Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (another) βιβλίον (book) ἠνοίχθη (was opened), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) τῆς (the one) ζωῆς (of life). καὶ (And) ἐκρίθησαν (were judged) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the things) γεγραμμένων (having been written) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) βιβλίοις (books), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹³ καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (gave up) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it); καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἔδωκαν (gave up) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them); καὶ (and) ἐκρίθησαν (they were judged) ἕκαστος (each of them) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire). οὗτος (This) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερός (second) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) λίμνη (lake) τοῦ (of) πυρός (fire). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βίβλῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) γεγραμμένος (having been written), ἐβλήθη (he was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire).

¹³ καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (gave up) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it); καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἔδωκαν (gave up) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them); καὶ (and) ἐκρίθησαν (they were judged) ἕκαστος (each of them) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire). οὗτος (This) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερός (second) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) λίμνη (lake) τοῦ (of) πυρός (fire).

³³ Πωλήσατε (Sell) τὰ (the) ὑπάρχοντα (possessions) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) δότε (give) ἐλεημοσύνην (alms); ποιήσατε (make) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves) βαλλάντια (purses) μὴ (not) παλαιούμενα (growing old), θησαυρὸν (a treasure) ἀνέκλειπτον (unfailing) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens), ὅπου (where) κλέπτης (thief) οὐκ (not) ἐγγίζει (does draw near), οὐδὲ (nor) σὴς (moth) διαφθείρει (destroy). ³⁴ ὅπου (Where) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) θησαυρὸς (treasure) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐκεῖ (there) καὶ (also) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) ὑμῶν (of you) ἔσται (will be).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) οὐρανὸν (a heaven) καινὸν (new), καὶ (and) γῆν (an earth) καινήν (new), ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) πρῶτος (the first) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) πρώτη (first) γῆ (earth) ἀπῆλθαν (had passed away), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἔτι (any longer).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) οὐρανὸν (a heaven) καινὸν (new), καὶ (and) γῆν (an earth) καινήν (new), ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) πρῶτος (the first) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) πρώτη (first) γῆ (earth) ἀπῆλθαν (had passed away), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἔτι (any longer). ² καὶ (And) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἁγίαν (holy), Ἰερουσαλὴμ (the Jerusalem) καινὴν (new), εἶδον (I saw) καταβαίνουσαν (coming down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ἡτοιμασμένην (having been prepared) ὡς (as) νύμφην (a bride) κεκοσμημένην (having been adorned) τῷ (for the) ἀνδρὶ (husband) αὐτῆς (of her). ³ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνῆς (a voice) μεγάλης (great) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), λεγούσης (saying): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) σκηνὴ (tabernacle) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) μετὰ (is with) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men), καὶ (and) σκηνώσει (He will tabernacle) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) λαοὶ (peoples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἔσονται (will be), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (Himself) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἔσται (will be) [αὐτῶν (as their) θεός] (God). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐξαλείψει (He will wipe away) πᾶν (every) δάκρυον (tear) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (will be) ἔτι (any longer) οὔτε (nor) πένθος (mourning) οὔτε (nor) κραυγὴ (crying) οὔτε (nor) πόνος (pain); οὐκ (not) ἔσται (they will be) ἔτι (any longer), ὅτι (because) τὰ (the) πρῶτα (former things) ἀπῆλθαν (have passed away).” ⁵ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) ὁ (the One) καθήμενος (sitting) ἐπὶ (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), καινὰ (new) ποιῶ (I make) πάντα (all things).” καὶ (And) λέγει (He says), “Γράψον (Write this), ὅτι (because) οὗτοι (these) οἱ (the) λόγοι (words) πιστοὶ (faithful) καὶ (and) ἀληθινοί (true) εἰσιν (are).” ⁶ καὶ (And) εἶπέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Γέγοναν (It is done)! ἐγὼ (I) [εἰμι] (am) τὸ (the) Ἄλφα (Alpha) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Ὦ (Omega), ἡ (the) ἀρχὴ (beginning) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) τέλος (end). ἐγὼ (I) τῷ (to the one) διψῶντι (thirsting) δώσω (will give) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πηγῆς (spring) τοῦ (of the) ὕδατος (water) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) δωρεάν (freely). ⁷ ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming) κληρονομήσει (will inherit) ταῦτα (all things), καὶ (and) ἔσομαι (I will be) αὐτῷ (his) Θεὸς (God), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (he) ἔσται (will be) μοι (My) υἱός (son). ⁸ Τοῖς (-) δὲ (But) δειλοῖς (to the cowardly) καὶ (and) ἀπίστοις (unbelieving) καὶ (and) ἐβδελυγμένοις (having become abominable) καὶ (and) φονεῦσιν (murderers) καὶ (and) πόρνοις (the sexually immoral) καὶ (and) φαρμάκοις (sorcerers) καὶ (and) εἰδωλολάτραις (idolaters) καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (-) ψευδέσιν (liars), τὸ (the) μέρος (portion) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (is in) τῇ (the) λίμνῃ (lake) τῇ (-) καιομένῃ (burning) πυρὶ (with fire) καὶ (and) θείῳ (brimstone), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερος (second).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἦλθεν (came) εἷς (one) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀγγέλων (angels), τῶν (-) ἐχόντων (having) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) φιάλας (bowls) τῶν (-) γεμόντων (being full) τῶν (of the) ἑπτὰ (seven) πληγῶν (plagues) τῶν (-) ἐσχάτων (last), καὶ (and) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me), λέγων (saying), “Δεῦρο (Come here), δείξω (I will show) σοι (you) τὴν (the) νύμφην (bride), τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (wife) τοῦ (of the) ἀρνίου (Lamb).” ¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀπήνεγκέν (he carried away) με (me) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) ἐπὶ (to) ὄρος (a mountain) μέγα (great) καὶ (and) ὑψηλόν (high), καὶ (and) ἔδειξέν (he showed) μοι (me) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἁγίαν (holy) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), καταβαίνουσαν (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ¹¹ ἔχουσαν (having) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ὁ (The) φωστὴρ (radiance) αὐτῆς (of it) ὅμοιος (was like) λίθῳ (a stone) τιμιωτάτῳ (most precious), ὡς (like) λίθῳ (a stone) ἰάσπιδι (jasper) κρυσταλλίζοντι (being clear as crystal), ¹² ἔχουσα (having) τεῖχος (a wall) μέγα (great) καὶ (and) ὑψηλόν (high), ἔχουσα (having) πυλῶνας (gates) δώδεκα (twelve), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (at) τοῖς (the) πυλῶσιν (gates) ἀγγέλους (angels) δώδεκα (twelve), καὶ (and) ὀνόματα (names) ἐπιγεγραμμένα (having been inscribed), ἅ (which) ἐστιν (are) [τὰ (the) ὀνόματα] (names) τῶν (of the) δώδεκα (twelve) φυλῶν (tribes) υἱῶν (of the sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel). ¹³ ἀπὸ (On) ἀνατολῆς (the east) πυλῶνες (were gates) τρεῖς (three), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (on) βορρᾶ (the north) πυλῶνες (gates) τρεῖς (three), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (on) νότου (the south) πυλῶνες (gates) τρεῖς (three), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (on) δυσμῶν (the west) πυλῶνες (gates) τρεῖς (three). ¹⁴ καὶ (And) τὸ (the) τεῖχος (wall) τῆς (of the) πόλεως (city) ἔχων (had) θεμελίους (foundations) δώδεκα (twelve), καὶ (and) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῶν (them) δώδεκα (the twelve) ὀνόματα (names) τῶν (of the) δώδεκα (twelve) ἀποστόλων (apostles) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb). ¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the one) λαλῶν (speaking) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me) εἶχεν (had) μέτρον (a measuring) κάλαμον (reed) χρυσοῦν (golden), ἵνα (so that) μετρήσῃ (he could measure) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) πυλῶνας (gates) αὐτῆς (of it), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) τεῖχος (wall) αὐτῆς (of it). ¹⁶ καὶ (And) ἡ (the) πόλις (city) τετράγωνος (foursquare) κεῖται (lies), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) μῆκος (length) αὐτῆς (of it is) ὅσον (the same as) [καὶ] (also) τὸ (the) πλάτος (width). καὶ (And) ἐμέτρησεν (he measured) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τῷ (with the) καλάμῳ (reed), ἐπὶ (at) σταδίων (stadia) δώδεκα (twelve) χιλιάδων (thousand). τὸ (The) μῆκος (length) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) (forty) τεσσάρων (four) πηχῶν (cubits), μέτρον (the measure) ἀνθρώπου (of man), ὅ (that) ἐστιν (is) ἀγγέλου (of the angel). ¹⁸ Καὶ (And) ἡ (the) ἐνδώμησις (structure) τοῦ (of the) τείχους (wall) αὐτῆς (of it) ἴασπις (was jasper), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) πόλις (city) χρυσίον (gold) καθαρὸν (pure), ὅμοιον (like) ὑάλῳ (glass) καθαρῷ (clear), ¹⁹ οἱ (the) θεμέλιοι (foundations) τοῦ (of the) τείχους (wall) τῆς (of the) πόλεως (city), παντὶ (with every) λίθῳ (stone) τιμίῳ (precious) κεκοσμημένοι (having been adorned): ὁ (the) θεμέλιος (foundation) ὁ (-) πρῶτος (first) ἴασπις (jasper), ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) σάπφιρος (sapphire), ὁ (the) τρίτος (third) χαλκηδών (chalcedony), ὁ (the) τέταρτος (fourth) σμάραγδος (emerald), ²⁰ ὁ (the) πέμπτος (fifth) σαρδόνυξ (sardonyx), ὁ (the) ἕκτος (sixth) σάρδιον (sardius), ὁ (the) ἕβδομος (seventh) χρυσόλιθος (chrysolite), ὁ (the) ὄγδοος (eighth) βήρυλλος (beryl), ὁ (the) ἔνατος (ninth) τοπάζιον (topaz), ὁ (the) δέκατος (tenth) χρυσόπρασος (chrysoprase), ὁ (the) ἑνδέκατος (eleventh) ὑάκινθος (jacinth), ὁ (the) δωδέκατος (twelfth) ἀμέθυστος (amethyst). ²¹ Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) δώδεκα (twelve) πυλῶνες (gates were) δώδεκα (twelve) μαργαρῖται (pearls); ἀνὰ (respectively) εἷς (one) ἕκαστος (each) τῶν (of the) πυλώνων (gates) ἦν (was) ἐξ (of) ἑνὸς (one) μαργαρίτου (pearl). καὶ (and) ἡ (the) πλατεῖα (street) τῆς (of the) πόλεως (city) χρυσίον (gold), καθαρὸν (pure) ὡς (as) ὕαλος (glass) διαυγής (transparent). ²² Καὶ (And) ναὸν (temple) οὐκ (not) εἶδον (I saw) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it); ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ὁ (-) Παντοκράτωρ (Almighty), ναὸς (temple) αὐτῆς (of it) ἐστιν (is), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb). ²³ καὶ (And) ἡ (the) πόλις (city) οὐ (no) χρείαν (need) ἔχει (has) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), οὐδὲ (nor) τῆς (of the) σελήνης (moon), ἵνα (that) φαίνωσιν (they should shine) αὐτῇ (in it); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δόξα (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐφώτισεν (enlightened) αὐτήν (it), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λύχνος (lamp) αὐτῆς (of it) τὸ (is the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb). ²⁴ καὶ (And) περιπατήσουσιν (will walk) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) διὰ (by) τοῦ (the) φωτὸς (light) αὐτῆς (of it), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) φέρουσιν (bring) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (into) αὐτήν (it). ²⁵ καὶ (And) οἱ (the) πυλῶνες (gates) αὐτῆς (of it) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) κλεισθῶσιν (shall be shut) ἡμέρας (by day), νὺξ (night) γὰρ (for) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (will be) ἐκεῖ (there). ²⁶ Καὶ (And) οἴσουσιν (they will bring) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) τιμὴν (honor) τῶν (of the) ἐθνῶν (nations) εἰς (into) αὐτήν (it). ²⁷ καὶ (And) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθῃ (shall enter) εἰς (into) αὐτὴν (it) πᾶν (anything) κοινὸν (defiling), καὶ (and) ὁ (those) ποιῶν (practicing) βδέλυγμα (abomination) καὶ (and) ψεῦδος (a lie), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) οἱ (those) γεγραμμένοι (having been written) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) βιβλίῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb).

⁷ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). Τῷ (To the one) νικῶντι (overcoming), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) φαγεῖν (to eat) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) ξύλου (tree) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Παραδείσῳ (paradise) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁴ καὶ (And) ἐξαλείψει (He will wipe away) πᾶν (every) δάκρυον (tear) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔσται (will be) ἔτι (any longer) οὔτε (nor) πένθος (mourning) οὔτε (nor) κραυγὴ (crying) οὔτε (nor) πόνος (pain); οὐκ (not) ἔσται (they will be) ἔτι (any longer), ὅτι (because) τὰ (the) πρῶτα (former things) ἀπῆλθαν (have passed away).”

⁹ ἀλλὰ (but) καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἃ (What) ὀφθαλμὸς (eye) οὐκ (not) εἶδεν (has seen), καὶ (and) οὖς (ear) οὐκ (not) ἤκουσεν (has heard), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (into) καρδίαν (heart) ἀνθρώπου (of man) οὐκ (not) ἀνέβη (has entered), ὅσα (what) ἡτοίμασεν (has prepared) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τοῖς (for those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) αὐτόν (Him).”

⁴³ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀμήν (Truly) σοι (to you) λέγω (I say), σήμερον (today) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἔσῃ (you will be) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Παραδείσῳ (Paradise).”
