¹² Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἐν (in) ἄλλῳ (other) οὐδενὶ (no one) ἡ (the) σωτηρία (salvation), οὐδὲ (not) γὰρ (for) ὄνομά (name) ἐστιν (is there) ἕτερον (another) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) τὸ (-) δεδομένον (having been given) ἐν (among) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐν (by) ᾧ (which) δεῖ (it behooves) σωθῆναι (to be saved) ἡμᾶς (us).”

¹² Ζῶν (Living is) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) ἐνεργὴς (active), καὶ (and) τομώτερος (sharper) ὑπὲρ (than) πᾶσαν (any) μάχαιραν (sword) δίστομον (two-edged), καὶ (even) διϊκνούμενος (penetrating) ἄχρι (as far as) μερισμοῦ (the division) ψυχῆς (of soul) καὶ (and) πνεύματος (spirit), ἁρμῶν (of joints) τε (and) καὶ (also) μυελῶν (marrows), καὶ (and) κριτικὸς (able to judge) ἐνθυμήσεων (the thoughts) καὶ (and) ἐννοιῶν (intentions) καρδίας (of the heart).

²⁶ Ἑκουσίως (If willingly) γὰρ (for), ἁμαρτανόντων (sin) ἡμῶν (we), μετὰ (after we are) τὸ (-) λαβεῖν (to receive) τὴν (the) ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth), οὐκέτι (no longer) περὶ (for) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἀπολείπεται (remains) θυσία (a sacrifice),

²³ τὰ (The) γὰρ (for) ὀψώνια (wages) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin) θάνατος (is death); τὸ (-) δὲ (but) χάρισμα (the gift) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τῷ (the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us).

⁸ Τῇ (-) γὰρ (For) χάριτί (by grace) ἐστε (you are) σεσῳσμένοι (saved) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) τοῦτο (this) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (yourselves); Θεοῦ (it is of God) τὸ (the) δῶρον (gift), ⁹ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (as a result of) ἔργων (works), ἵνα (so that) μή (not) τις (anyone) καυχήσηται (may boast).

⁵ Ἐν (In) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) περιπατεῖτε (walk) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside), τὸν (the) καιρὸν (time) ἐξαγοραζόμενοι (redeeming).

²⁶ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) χωρὶς (apart from) πνεύματος (spirit) νεκρόν (dead) ἐστιν (is), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ἡ (-) πίστις (faith) χωρὶς (apart from) ἔργων (works) νεκρά (dead) ἐστιν (is).

⁸ Νήψατε (Be sober-minded); γρηγορήσατε (watch). ὁ (The) ἀντίδικος (adversary) ὑμῶν (of You), διάβολος (the devil), ὡς (as) λέων (a lion) ὠρυόμενος (roaring) περιπατεῖ (prowls about), ζητῶν (seeking) τινα (whom) καταπιεῖν (to devour),

¹² Ὧδε (Here) ἡ (the) ὑπομονὴ (endurance) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) ἐστίν (is), οἱ (those) τηροῦντες (keeping) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus).

¹⁰ Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), ὡς (as) καιρὸν (occasion) ἔχομεν* (we have), ἐργαζώμεθα (we should work) τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) πρὸς (toward) πάντας (all), μάλιστα (especially) δὲ (now) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) οἰκείους (of the household) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (of faith).

¹⁵ Βλέπετε (Take heed) οὖν (therefore) ἀκριβῶς (carefully) πῶς (how) περιπατεῖτε (you walk), μὴ (not) ὡς (as) ἄσοφοι (unwise), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) σοφοί (wise), ¹⁶ ἐξαγοραζόμενοι (redeeming) τὸν (the) καιρόν (time), ὅτι (because) αἱ (the) ἡμέραι (days) πονηραί (evil) εἰσιν (are). ¹⁷ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), μὴ (not) γίνεσθε (be) ἄφρονες (foolish), ἀλλὰ (but) συνίετε (understand) τί (what) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord is). ¹⁸ καὶ (And) μὴ (not) μεθύσκεσθε (to be drunk) οἴνῳ (with wine), ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἀσωτία (debauchery). ἀλλὰ (Instead) πληροῦσθε (be filled) ἐν (with) Πνεύματι (the Spirit), ¹⁹ λαλοῦντες (speaking) ἑαυτοῖς (to each other) [ἐν] (in) ψαλμοῖς (psalms) καὶ (and) ὕμνοις (hymns) καὶ (and) ᾠδαῖς (songs) πνευματικαῖς (spiritual), ᾄδοντες (singing) καὶ (and) ψάλλοντες (making melody) τῇ (in the) καρδίᾳ (heart) ὑμῶν (of you) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), ²⁰ εὐχαριστοῦντες (giving thanks) πάντοτε (at all times) ὑπὲρ (for) πάντων (all things) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρί (Father).

⁹ οὐ (Not) βραδύνει (does delay) Κύριος (the Lord) τῆς (the) ἐπαγγελίας (promise), ὥς (as) τινες (some) βραδύτητα (slowness) ἡγοῦνται (esteem), ἀλλὰ (but) μακροθυμεῖ (is patient) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you), μὴ (not) βουλόμενός (willing) τινας (for any) ἀπολέσθαι (to perish), ἀλλὰ (but) πάντας (all) εἰς (to) μετάνοιαν (repentance) χωρῆσαι (to come).

¹⁸ Ἀλλ’ (But) ἐρεῖ (will say) τις (someone), “Σὺ (You) πίστιν (faith) ἔχεις (have), κἀγὼ (and I) ἔργα (works) ἔχω (have).” δεῖξόν (Show) μοι (me) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) σου (of you) χωρὶς (without) τῶν (-) ἔργων (works), κἀγώ (and I) σοι (you) δείξω (will show) ἐκ (by) τῶν (the) ἔργων (works) μου (of me), τὴν (-) πίστιν (faith).
