⁵ Ἀφιλάργυρος (Let be without covetousness) ὁ (your) τρόπος (manner of life), ἀρκούμενοι (being satisfied) τοῖς (with the) παροῦσιν (present); αὐτὸς (He Himself) γὰρ (for) εἴρηκεν (has said): “Οὐ (Never) μή (not) σε (you) ἀνῶ (will I leave), οὐδ’ (nor) οὐ (never) μή (not) σε (you) ἐγκαταλίπω (will I forsake).”

² καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συσχηματίζεσθε (be conformed) τῷ (to the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταμορφοῦσθε (be transformed) τῇ (by the) ἀνακαινώσει (renewing) τοῦ (of the) νοός (mind), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) δοκιμάζειν (to prove) ὑμᾶς (by you), τί (what is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) καὶ (and) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) καὶ (and) τέλειον (perfect).

¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), μὴ (not) παντὶ (every) πνεύματι (spirit) πιστεύετε (believe), ἀλλὰ (but) δοκιμάζετε (test) τὰ (the) πνεύματα (spirits), εἰ (whether) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (they are), ὅτι (because) πολλοὶ (many) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets) ἐξεληλύθασιν (have gone out) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world). ² Ἐν (By) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκετε (you know) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God): πᾶν (Every) πνεῦμα (spirit) ὃ (that) ὁμολογεῖ (confesses) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (the flesh) ἐληλυθότα (having come), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (is); ³ καὶ (and) πᾶν (any) πνεῦμα (spirit) ὃ (that) μὴ (not) ὁμολογεῖ (confesses) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is). καὶ (And) τοῦτό (this) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (that) τοῦ (of the) ἀντιχρίστου (antichrist), ὃ (which) ἀκηκόατε (you heard) ὅτι (that) ἔρχεται (is coming), καὶ (and) νῦν (now) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) ἐστὶν (is) ἤδη (already). ⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστε (are), τεκνία (little children), καὶ (and) νενικήκατε (have overcome) αὐτούς (them), ὅτι (because) μείζων (greater) ἐστὶν (is) ὁ (the One) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) ἢ (than) ὁ (the one) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world). ⁵ αὐτοὶ (They) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) εἰσίν (are); διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this) ἐκ (from out) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) λαλοῦσιν (they speak), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) αὐτῶν (them) ἀκούει (listens to).

⁵ Εἰ (If) δέ (now) τις (any) ὑμῶν (of you) λείπεται (lacks) σοφίας (wisdom), αἰτείτω (let him ask) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the One) διδόντος (giving), Θεοῦ (God), πᾶσιν (to all) ἁπλῶς (generously), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ὀνειδίζοντος (finding fault), καὶ (and) δοθήσεται (it will be given) αὐτῷ (to him). ⁶ αἰτείτω (Let him ask) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) πίστει (faith), μηδὲν (nothing) διακρινόμενος (doubting). ὁ (The one) γὰρ (for) διακρινόμενος (doubting) ἔοικεν (is like) κλύδωνι (a wave) θαλάσσης (of the sea), ἀνεμιζομένῳ (being blown by the wind) καὶ (and) ῥιπιζομένῳ (being tossed by the wind). ⁷ μὴ (Not) γὰρ (for) οἰέσθω (let suppose) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐκεῖνος (that), ὅτι (that) λήμψεταί (he will receive) τι (anything) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord). ⁸ ἀνὴρ (He is a man) δίψυχος (double-minded), ἀκατάστατος (unstable) ἐν (in) πάσαις (all) ταῖς (the) ὁδοῖς (ways) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²⁷ Εἰρήνην (Peace) ἀφίημι (I leave) ὑμῖν (with you); εἰρήνην (peace) τὴν (-) ἐμὴν (My) δίδωμι (I give) ὑμῖν (to you); οὐ (not) καθὼς (as) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) δίδωσιν (gives), ἐγὼ (I) δίδωμι (give) ὑμῖν (to you). μὴ (Not) ταρασσέσθω (let be troubled) ὑμῶν (of you) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart), μηδὲ (nor) δειλιάτω (let it fear).

⁴ Χαίρετε (Rejoice) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) πάντοτε (always); πάλιν (again) ἐρῶ (I will say), χαίρετε (rejoice)! ⁵ τὸ (The) ἐπιεικὲς (gentleness) ὑμῶν (of you) γνωσθήτω (let be known) πᾶσιν (to all) ἀνθρώποις (men). ὁ (The) Κύριος (Lord) ἐγγύς (is near). ⁶ Μηδὲν (Nothing) μεριμνᾶτε (be anxious about), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) παντὶ (everything), τῇ (by) προσευχῇ (prayer) καὶ (and) τῇ (-) δεήσει (supplication), μετὰ (with) εὐχαριστίας (thanksgiving), τὰ (the) αἰτήματα (requests) ὑμῶν (of you) γνωριζέσθω (let be made known) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God). ⁷ καὶ (And) ἡ (the) εἰρήνη (peace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἡ (-) ὑπερέχουσα (surpassing) πάντα (all) νοῦν (understanding) φρουρήσει (will guard) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ⁸ Τὸ (-) λοιπόν (Finally), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὅσα (whatever) ἐστὶν (is) ἀληθῆ (true), ὅσα (whatever) σεμνά (venerable), ὅσα (whatever) δίκαια (right), ὅσα (whatever) ἁγνά (pure), ὅσα (whatever) προσφιλῆ (lovely), ὅσα (whatever) εὔφημα (admirable) — εἴ (if) τις (any) ἀρετὴ (excellence) καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (any) ἔπαινος (praise) — ταῦτα (these things) λογίζεσθε (think on).

³⁴ Μὴ (Not) οὖν (therefore) μεριμνήσητε (be anxious) εἰς (about) τὴν (things) αὔριον (tomorrow), ἡ (-) γὰρ (for) αὔριον (tomorrow) μεριμνήσει (will be anxious about) ἑαυτῆς (itself). ἀρκετὸν (Sufficient) τῇ (to the) ἡμέρᾳ (day is) ἡ (the) κακία (trouble) αὐτῆς (of it).

⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἔδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) πνεῦμα (a spirit) δειλίας (of cowardice), ἀλλὰ (but) δυνάμεως (of power), καὶ (and) ἀγάπης (of love), καὶ (and) σωφρονισμοῦ (of self-control).

⁷ πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) μέριμναν (anxiety) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐπιρίψαντες (having cast) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτόν (Him), ὅτι (because) αὐτῷ (with Him) μέλει (there is care) περὶ (about) ὑμῶν (you).
