²⁸ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) φοβεῖσθε (you should be afraid) ἀπὸ (of) τῶν (those) ἀποκτεννόντων (killing) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body), τὴν (the) δὲ (however) ψυχὴν (soul) μὴ (not) δυναμένων (being able) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill); φοβεῖσθε (you should fear) δὲ (however) μᾶλλον (rather) τὸν (the One) δυνάμενον (being able) καὶ (both) ψυχὴν (soul) καὶ (and) σῶμα (body) ἀπολέσαι (to destroy) ἐν (in) γεέννῃ (hell).

³¹ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτοῖς (them) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἄρτι (Now) πιστεύετε (do you believe)? ³² ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour), καὶ (and) ἐλήλυθεν (has come), ἵνα (when) σκορπισθῆτε (you will be scattered), ἕκαστος (each) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἴδια (own), κἀμὲ (and I) μόνον (alone) ἀφῆτε (you shall leave); καὶ (yet) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) μόνος (alone), ὅτι (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐστιν (is). ³³ ταῦτα (These things) λελάληκα (I have spoken) ὑμῖν (to you) ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) εἰρήνην (peace) ἔχητε (you may have). ἐν (In) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) θλῖψιν (tribulation) ἔχετε (you have). ἀλλὰ (But) θαρσεῖτε (take courage); ἐγὼ (I) νενίκηκα (have overcome) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).”

³³ ταῦτα (These things) λελάληκα (I have spoken) ὑμῖν (to you) ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) εἰρήνην (peace) ἔχητε (you may have). ἐν (In) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) θλῖψιν (tribulation) ἔχετε (you have). ἀλλὰ (But) θαρσεῖτε (take courage); ἐγὼ (I) νενίκηκα (have overcome) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).”

⁵ λογισμοὺς (arguments) καθαιροῦντες (overthrowing), καὶ (and) πᾶν (every) ὕψωμα (high thing) ἐπαιρόμενον (lifting itself up) κατὰ (against) τῆς (the) γνώσεως (knowledge) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) αἰχμαλωτίζοντες (taking captive) πᾶν (every) νόημα (thought) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ὑπακοὴν (obedience) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

³ Μηδεμίαν (Nothing) ἐν (before) μηδενὶ (no one) διδόντες (placing) προσκοπήν (an obstacle), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) μωμηθῇ (should be blemished) ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry),

⁶ Μηδὲν (Nothing) μεριμνᾶτε (be anxious about), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) παντὶ (everything), τῇ (by) προσευχῇ (prayer) καὶ (and) τῇ (-) δεήσει (supplication), μετὰ (with) εὐχαριστίας (thanksgiving), τὰ (the) αἰτήματα (requests) ὑμῶν (of you) γνωριζέσθω (let be made known) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).

¹⁸ κἀγὼ (I also) δέ (now) σοι (to you) λέγω (say) ὅτι (that) σὺ (you) εἶ (are) Πέτρος (Peter), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (the) πέτρᾳ (rock) οἰκοδομήσω (I will build) μου (My) τὴν (-) ἐκκλησίαν (church), καὶ (and) πύλαι (the gates) ᾅδου (of hades) οὐ (not) κατισχύσουσιν (will prevail against) αὐτῆς (it). ¹⁹ δώσω (I will give) σοι (to you) τὰς (the) κλεῖδας (keys) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); καὶ (and) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) δήσῃς (you might bind) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἔσται (will be) δεδεμένον (bound) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens); καὶ (and) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) λύσῃς (you might loose) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἔσται (will be) λελυμένον (loosed) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).”

¹³ Μηκέτι (No longer) οὖν (therefore) ἀλλήλους (one another) κρίνωμεν (should we judge); ἀλλὰ (but) τοῦτο (this) κρίνατε (determine) μᾶλλον (rather), τὸ (-) μὴ (not) τιθέναι (to put) πρόσκομμα (any stumbling block) τῷ (before your) ἀδελφῷ (brother), ἢ (or) σκάνδαλον (snare).

²⁰ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) λέγει (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Διὰ (Because of) τὴν (the) ὀλιγοπιστίαν (little faith) ὑμῶν (of you). ἀμὴν (Truly) γὰρ (for) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (If) ἔχητε (you have) πίστιν (faith) ὡς (as) κόκκον (a seed) σινάπεως (of mustard), ἐρεῖτε (you will say) τῷ (to the) ὄρει (mountain) τούτῳ (to this), ‘Μετάβα (Move) ἔνθεν (from here) ἐκεῖ (to there),’ καὶ (and) μεταβήσεται (it will move). καὶ (And) οὐδὲν (nothing) ἀδυνατήσει (will be impossible) ὑμῖν (for you).”

¹³ πάντα (For all things) ἰσχύω (I have strength) ἐν (in) τῷ (the One) ἐνδυναμοῦντί (strengthening) με (me).

¹⁷ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), σκοπεῖν (to watch out for) τοὺς (those) τὰς (-) διχοστασίας (divisions) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) σκάνδαλα (obstacles) παρὰ (contrary to) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) ἣν (that) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐμάθετε (have learned) ποιοῦντας (causing), καὶ (and) ἐκκλίνετε (turn away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them).

³ Οὐ (Not) μόνον (only so) δέ (now), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) καυχώμεθα (we glory) ἐν (in) ταῖς (-) θλίψεσιν (tribulations), εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) ἡ (-) θλῖψις (tribulation), ὑπομονὴν (perseverance) κατεργάζεται (produces); ⁴ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ὑπομονὴ (perseverance), δοκιμήν (character); ἡ (-) δὲ (and) δοκιμὴ (character), ἐλπίδα (hope). ⁵ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ἐλπὶς (hope) οὐ (not) καταισχύνει (does make us ashamed), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐκκέχυται (has been poured out) ἐν (into) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (through) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), τοῦ (the One) δοθέντος (having been given) ἡμῖν (to us).

⁸ ὑπὲρ (For) τούτου (this), τρὶς (three times) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) παρεκάλεσα (I begged), ἵνα (that) ἀποστῇ (it might depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me). ⁹ καὶ (And) εἴρηκέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Ἀρκεῖ (Suffices) σοι (you) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) μου (of Me); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δύναμις (power) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) τελεῖται (is perfected).” Ἥδιστα (Most gladly) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (rather) καυχήσομαι (will I boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses) ‹μου› (of me), ἵνα (so that) ἐπισκηνώσῃ (may rest) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁰ διὸ (Therefore) εὐδοκῶ (I take pleasure) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses), ἐν (in) ὕβρεσιν (insults), ἐν (in) ἀνάγκαις (hardships), ἐν (in) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), καὶ (and) στενοχωρίαις (difficulties) ὑπὲρ (for) Χριστοῦ (Christ); ὅταν (when) γὰρ (for) ἀσθενῶ (I might be weak), τότε (then) δυνατός (strong) εἰμι (I am).

²⁸ Οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) τοῖς (to those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), πάντα (all things) συνεργεῖ (works together) (ὁ (-) θεὸς) (God) εἰς (for) ἀγαθόν (good), τοῖς (to those) κατὰ (according to) πρόθεσιν (His purpose) κλητοῖς (called) οὖσιν (being).

² Πᾶσαν (All) χαρὰν (joy) ἡγήσασθε (esteem it), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), ὅταν (when) πειρασμοῖς (trials) περιπέσητε (you might fall into) ποικίλοις (various), ³ γινώσκοντες (knowing) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) δοκίμιον (testing) ὑμῶν (of your) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith) κατεργάζεται (produces) ὑπομονήν (endurance). ⁴ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ὑπομονὴ (endurance), ἔργον (work) τέλειον (its perfect) ἐχέτω (let have), ἵνα (so that) ἦτε (you may be) τέλειοι (perfect) καὶ (and) ὁλόκληροι (complete), ἐν (in) μηδενὶ (nothing) λειπόμενοι (lacking).
