¹⁶ Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) Θωμᾶς (Thomas), ὁ (-) λεγόμενος (called) Δίδυμος (Didymus), τοῖς (to the) συμμαθηταῖς (fellow disciples), “Ἄγωμεν (Let go) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (us), ἵνα (that) ἀποθάνωμεν (we may die) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him).”

⁹ καὶ (And) εἴρηκέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Ἀρκεῖ (Suffices) σοι (you) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) μου (of Me); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δύναμις (power) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) τελεῖται (is perfected).” Ἥδιστα (Most gladly) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (rather) καυχήσομαι (will I boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses) ‹μου› (of me), ἵνα (so that) ἐπισκηνώσῃ (may rest) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁰ διὸ (Therefore) εὐδοκῶ (I take pleasure) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses), ἐν (in) ὕβρεσιν (insults), ἐν (in) ἀνάγκαις (hardships), ἐν (in) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), καὶ (and) στενοχωρίαις (difficulties) ὑπὲρ (for) Χριστοῦ (Christ); ὅταν (when) γὰρ (for) ἀσθενῶ (I might be weak), τότε (then) δυνατός (strong) εἰμι (I am).

¹³ πάντα (For all things) ἰσχύω (I have strength) ἐν (in) τῷ (the One) ἐνδυναμοῦντί (strengthening) με (me).

²⁸ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) φοβεῖσθε (you should be afraid) ἀπὸ (of) τῶν (those) ἀποκτεννόντων (killing) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body), τὴν (the) δὲ (however) ψυχὴν (soul) μὴ (not) δυναμένων (being able) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill); φοβεῖσθε (you should fear) δὲ (however) μᾶλλον (rather) τὸν (the One) δυνάμενον (being able) καὶ (both) ψυχὴν (soul) καὶ (and) σῶμα (body) ἀπολέσαι (to destroy) ἐν (in) γεέννῃ (hell). ²⁹ Οὐχὶ (Not) δύο (two) στρουθία (sparrows) ἀσσαρίου (for an assarion) πωλεῖται (are sold)? καὶ (And) ἓν (one) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) οὐ (not) πεσεῖται (will fall) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἄνευ (apart from) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) ὑμῶν (of you)? ³⁰ ὑμῶν (Of you) δὲ (now) καὶ (even) αἱ (the) τρίχες (hairs) τῆς (of the) κεφαλῆς (head) πᾶσαι (all) ἠριθμημέναι (numbered) εἰσίν (are). ³¹ μὴ (Not) οὖν (therefore) φοβεῖσθε (you should fear); πολλῶν (than many) στρουθίων (sparrows) διαφέρετε (are worth more) ὑμεῖς (you). ³² Πᾶς (Everyone) οὖν (therefore) ὅστις (who) ὁμολογήσει (will confess) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men), ὁμολογήσω (will confess) κἀγὼ (also I) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens). ³³ ὅστις (Whoever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) ἀρνήσηταί (shall deny) με (Me) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men), ἀρνήσομαι (will deny) κἀγὼ (I also) αὐτὸν (him) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).

³¹ Τί (What) οὖν (then) ἐροῦμεν (will we say) πρὸς (to) ταῦτα (these things)? εἰ (If) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God is) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us), τίς (who can be) καθ’ (against) ἡμῶν (us)? ³² ὅς (He who) γε (indeed) τοῦ (the) ἰδίου (own) Υἱοῦ (Son) οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (spared), ἀλλὰ (but) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us) πάντων (all) παρέδωκεν (gave up) αὐτόν (Him), πῶς (how) οὐχὶ (not) καὶ (also) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him), τὰ (things) πάντα (all) ἡμῖν (us) χαρίσεται (will He grant)? ³³ τίς (Who) ἐγκαλέσει (will bring an accusation) κατὰ (against) ἐκλεκτῶν (the elect) Θεοῦ (of God)? Θεὸς (God is) ὁ (the One) δικαιῶν (justifying). ³⁴ τίς (Who is) ὁ (the one) κατακρινῶν (condemning)? Χριστὸς (For it is Christ) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὁ (the one) ἀποθανών (having died), μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (now) ἐγερθείς (having been raised up), ὅς (who) ‹καί› (also) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (at the) δεξιᾷ (right hand) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὃς (who) καὶ (and) ἐντυγχάνει (is interceding) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us). ³⁵ Τίς (Who) ἡμᾶς (us) χωρίσει (will separate) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἀγάπης (love) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ)? θλῖψις (Tribulation), ἢ (or) στενοχωρία (distress), ἢ (or) διωγμὸς (persecution), ἢ (or) λιμὸς (famine), ἢ (or) γυμνότης (nakedness), ἢ (or) κίνδυνος (danger), ἢ (or) μάχαιρα (sword)?

⁹ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἤνοιξεν (He opened) τὴν (the) πέμπτην (fifth) σφραγῖδα (seal), εἶδον (I saw) ὑποκάτω (under) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of those) ἐσφαγμένων (having been slain) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) ἣν (which) εἶχον (they had upheld). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ἔκραξαν (they were crying) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἕως (Until) πότε (when), ὁ (O) Δεσπότης (Lord), ὁ (-) ἅγιος (holy) καὶ (and) ἀληθινός (true), οὐ (not) κρίνεις (do You judge), καὶ (and) ἐκδικεῖς (avenge) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐκ (from) τῶν (those) κατοικούντων (dwelling) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth)?”

¹² καὶ (Also) πάντες (all) δὲ (now) οἱ (-) θέλοντες (desiring) ζῆν (to live) εὐσεβῶς (piously) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) διωχθήσονται (will be persecuted).

¹⁴ Εἰ (If) ὀνειδίζεσθε (you are insulted) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), μακάριοι (you are blessed), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀναπαύεται (rests). ¹⁵ μὴ (Not) γάρ (for) τις (any) ὑμῶν (of you) πασχέτω (let suffer) ὡς (as) φονεὺς (a murderer), ἢ (or) κλέπτης (a thief), ἢ (or) κακοποιὸς (an evildoer), ἢ (or) ὡς (as) ἀλλοτριεπίσκοπος (a troublesome meddler); ¹⁶ εἰ (if) δὲ (however) ὡς (as) Χριστιανός (a Christian), μὴ (not) αἰσχυνέσθω (let him be ashamed); δοξαζέτω (let him glorify) δὲ (however) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τούτῳ (this).
