John 11:38-44

38 Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὖν (therefore) πάλιν (again), ἐμβριμώμενος (being deeply moved) ἐν (in) ἑαυτῷ (Himself), ἔρχεται (comes) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) μνημεῖον (tomb). ἦν (It was) δὲ (now) σπήλαιον (a cave), καὶ (and) λίθος (a stone) ἐπέκειτο (was lying) ἐπ’ (against) αὐτῷ (it). 39 λέγει (Says) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἄρατε (Take away) τὸν (the) λίθον (stone).” Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἡ (the) ἀδελφὴ (sister) τοῦ (of the one) τετελευτηκότος (having died), Μάρθα (Martha), “Κύριε (Lord), ἤδη (already) ὄζει (he stinks), τεταρταῖος (four days) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (it is).” 40 Λέγει (Says) αὐτῇ (to her) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐκ (Not) εἶπόν (said I) σοι (to you) ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) πιστεύσῃς (you should believe), ὄψῃ (you will see) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).” 41 Ἦραν (They took away) οὖν (therefore) τὸν (the) λίθον (stone). ὁ (-) δὲ (Now) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἦρεν (lifted) τοὺς (His) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἄνω (upwards) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Πάτερ (Father), εὐχαριστῶ (I thank) σοι (You) ὅτι (that) ἤκουσάς (You have heard) μου (Me). 42 ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (and) ᾔδειν (knew) ὅτι (that) πάντοτέ (always) μου (Me) ἀκούεις (You hear); ἀλλὰ (but) διὰ (on account of) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd) τὸν (-) περιεστῶτα (standing around) εἶπον (I said it), ἵνα (that) πιστεύσωσιν (they may believe) ὅτι (that) σύ (You) με (Me) ἀπέστειλας (sent).” 43 Καὶ (And) ταῦτα (these things) εἰπὼν (having said), φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud) ἐκραύγασεν (He cried out), “Λάζαρε (Lazarus), δεῦρο (come) ἔξω (forth).” 44 ἐξῆλθεν (Came forth) ὁ (the one) τεθνηκὼς (having been dead), δεδεμένος (being bound) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) κειρίαις (with linen strips), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ὄψις (face) αὐτοῦ (of him) σουδαρίῳ (in a headcloth) περιεδέδετο (bound about). Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Λύσατε (Unbind) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) ἄφετε (allow) αὐτὸν (him) ὑπάγειν (to go).”

John 12:1

1 Ὁ (-) οὖν (Therefore) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), πρὸ (before) ἓξ (six) ἡμερῶν (days) τοῦ (the) πάσχα (Passover), ἦλθεν (came) εἰς (to) Βηθανίαν (Bethany), ὅπου (where) ἦν (was) Λάζαρος (Lazarus), ὃν (whom) ἤγειρεν (had raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus).

Luke 16:19-31

19 Ἄνθρωπος (A man) δέ (now) τις (certain) ἦν (there was) πλούσιος (rich), καὶ (and) ἐνεδιδύσκετο (he was clothed in) πορφύραν (purple) καὶ (and) βύσσον (fine linen), εὐφραινόμενος (making good cheer) καθ’ (every) ἡμέραν (day) λαμπρῶς (in splendor). 20 πτωχὸς (A poor man) δέ (now) τις (certain) ὀνόματι (named) Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ἐβέβλητο (was laid) πρὸς (at) τὸν (the) πυλῶνα (gate) αὐτοῦ (of him), εἱλκωμένος (being full of sores) 21 καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμῶν (desiring) χορτασθῆναι (to be fed) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (that) πιπτόντων (falling) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table) τοῦ (of the) πλουσίου (rich man); ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (even) οἱ (the) κύνες (dogs), ἐρχόμενοι (coming), ἐπέλειχον (were licking) τὰ (the) ἕλκη (sores) αὐτοῦ (of him). 22 Ἐγένετο (It came to pass that) δὲ (then) ἀποθανεῖν (died) τὸν (the) πτωχὸν (poor man), καὶ (and) ἀπενεχθῆναι (was carried away) αὐτὸν (he) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόλπον (bosom) Ἀβραάμ (of Abraham). ἀπέθανεν (Died) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) πλούσιος (rich man) καὶ (and) ἐτάφη (was buried). 23 καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) ᾅδῃ (Hades), ἐπάρας (having lifted up) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of him), ὑπάρχων (being) ἐν (in) βασάνοις (torment), ὁρᾷ (he sees) Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar), καὶ (and) Λάζαρον (Lazarus) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) κόλποις (bosom) αὐτοῦ (of him). 24 Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (he) φωνήσας (having cried out) εἶπεν (said), ‘Πάτερ (Father) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) με (me) καὶ (and) πέμψον (send) Λάζαρον (Lazarus), ἵνα (that) βάψῃ (he might dip) τὸ (the) ἄκρον (tip) τοῦ (of the) δακτύλου (finger) αὐτοῦ (of him) ὕδατος (in water) καὶ (and) καταψύξῃ (cool) τὴν (the) γλῶσσάν (tongue) μου (of me); ὅτι (for) ὀδυνῶμαι (I am suffering) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) φλογὶ (flame) ταύτῃ (this).’ 25 Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ‘Τέκνον (Child), μνήσθητι (remember) ὅτι (that) ἀπέλαβες (you did fully receive) τὰ (the things) ἀγαθά (good) σου (of you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ζωῇ (lifetime) σου (of you), καὶ (and) Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ὁμοίως (likewise) τὰ (the things) κακά (evil). νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ὧδε (here) παρακαλεῖται (he is comforted); σὺ (you) δὲ (now) ὀδυνᾶσαι (are suffering). 26 καὶ (And) ἐν (besides) πᾶσι (all) τούτοις (these things), μεταξὺ (between) ἡμῶν (us) καὶ (and) ὑμῶν (you) χάσμα (a chasm) μέγα (great) ἐστήρικται (has been fixed), ὅπως (so that) οἱ (those) θέλοντες (desiring) διαβῆναι (to pass) ἔνθεν (from here) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) μὴ (not) δύνωνται (are able), μηδὲ (nor) ἐκεῖθεν (from there) πρὸς (to) ἡμᾶς (us) διαπερῶσιν (can they pass).’ 27 Εἶπεν (He said) δέ (then), ‘Ἐρωτῶ (I implore) σε (you) οὖν (then), πάτερ (father), ἵνα (that) πέμψῃς (you would send) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) τοῦ (of the) πατρός (father) μου (of me) — 28 ἔχω (I have) γὰρ (for) πέντε (five) ἀδελφούς (brothers) — ὅπως (so that) διαμαρτύρηται (he might warn) αὐτοῖς (them), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (they) ἔλθωσιν (might come) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) τόπον (place) τοῦτον (this) τῆς (-) βασάνου (of torment).’ 29 Λέγει (Says) δὲ (however) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ‘Ἔχουσι (They have) Μωϋσέα (Moses) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) προφήτας (prophets); ἀκουσάτωσαν (let them hear) αὐτῶν (them).’ 30 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), ‘Οὐχί (No), πάτερ (father) Ἀβραάμ (Abraham), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐάν (if) τις (one) ἀπὸ (from) νεκρῶν (the dead) πορευθῇ (should go) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them), μετανοήσουσιν (they will repent).’ 31 Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (however) αὐτῷ (to him), ‘Εἰ (If) Μωϋσέως (Moses) καὶ (and) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) οὐκ (not) ἀκούουσιν (they hear), οὐδ’* (not even) ἐάν (if) τις (one) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἀναστῇ (should rise), πεισθήσονται (will they be persuaded).’”

1 Ἦν (Was) δέ (now) τις (a certain man) ἀσθενῶν (ailing), Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ἀπὸ (of) Βηθανίας (Bethany), ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) κώμης (village) Μαρίας (of Mary) καὶ (and) Μάρθας (Martha), τῆς (the) ἀδελφῆς (sister) αὐτῆς (of her). 2 ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) Μαριὰμ (Mary) ἡ (the one) ἀλείψασα (having anointed) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) μύρῳ (with fragrant oil) καὶ (and) ἐκμάξασα (having wiped) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ταῖς (with the) θριξὶν (hair) αὐτῆς (of her), ἧς (whose) ὁ (-) ἀδελφὸς (brother) Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ἠσθένει (was sick). 3 ἀπέστειλαν (Sent) οὖν (therefore) αἱ (the) ἀδελφαὶ (sisters) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγουσαι (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), ἴδε (behold), ὃν (he whom) φιλεῖς (You love) ἀσθενεῖ (is sick).” 4 Ἀκούσας (Having heard) δὲ (then), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Αὕτη (This) ἡ (-) ἀσθένεια (sickness) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death), ἀλλ’ (but) ὑπὲρ (for) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (that) δοξασθῇ (may be glorified) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) δι’ (by) αὐτῆς (it).” 5 Ἠγάπα (Loved) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὴν (-) Μάρθαν (Martha), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ἀδελφὴν (sister) αὐτῆς (of her), καὶ (and) τὸν (-) Λάζαρον (Lazarus). 6 ὡς (When) οὖν (therefore) ἤκουσεν (He heard) ὅτι (that) ἀσθενεῖ (he is sick), τότε (then) μὲν (indeed) ἔμεινεν (He remained) ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ἦν (He was) τόπῳ (the place) δύο (two) ἡμέρας (days). 7 ἔπειτα (Then) μετὰ (after) τοῦτο (this) λέγει (He says) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples), “Ἄγωμεν (Let us go) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) Ἰουδαίαν (Judea) πάλιν (again).” 8 Λέγουσιν (Say) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταί (disciples), “Ῥαββί (Rabbi), νῦν (just now) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) σε (You) λιθάσαι (to stone) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews), καὶ (and) πάλιν (again) ὑπάγεις (You are going) ἐκεῖ (there)?” 9 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐχὶ (Not) δώδεκα (twelve) ὧραί (hours) εἰσιν (are there) τῆς (in the) ἡμέρας (day)? ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) περιπατῇ (walks) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day), οὐ (not) προσκόπτει (he stumbles), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this) βλέπει (he sees); 10 ἐὰν (if) δέ (however) τις (anyone) περιπατῇ (walks) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) νυκτί (night), προσκόπτει (he stumbles), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him).” 11 Ταῦτα (These things) εἶπεν (He said), καὶ (and) μετὰ (after) τοῦτο (this) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ὁ (the) φίλος (friend) ἡμῶν (of us) κεκοίμηται (has fallen asleep), ἀλλὰ (but) πορεύομαι (I go) ἵνα (that) ἐξυπνίσω (I may awaken) αὐτόν (him).” 12 Εἶπαν (Said) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτῷ (of Him), “Κύριε (Lord), εἰ (if) κεκοίμηται (he has fallen asleep), σωθήσεται (he will get well).” 13 εἰρήκει (Had spoken) δὲ (however) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) περὶ (of) τοῦ (the) θανάτου (death) αὐτοῦ (of him); ἐκεῖνοι (they) δὲ (however) ἔδοξαν (thought) ὅτι (that) περὶ (of) τῆς (the) κοιμήσεως (rest) τοῦ (-) ὕπνου (of sleep) λέγει (He speaks). 14 Τότε (Then) οὖν (therefore) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) παρρησίᾳ (plainly), “Λάζαρος (Lazarus) ἀπέθανεν (has died).
