²³ Ἔλεγεν (He was saying) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) πάντας (all), “Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) θέλει (desires) ὀπίσω (after) μου (Me) ἔρχεσθαι (to come), ἀρνησάσθω (let him deny) ἑαυτὸν (himself), καὶ (and) ἀράτω (let him take up) τὸν (the) σταυρὸν (cross) αὐτοῦ (of him) καθ’ (every) ἡμέραν (day), καὶ (and) ἀκολουθείτω (let him follow) μοι (Me). ²⁴ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν* (-) θέλῃ (might desire) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) σῶσαι (to save), ἀπολέσει (will lose) αὐτήν (it); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (however) ἂν (-) ἀπολέσῃ (might lose) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (me), οὗτος (he) σώσει (will save) αὐτήν (it). ²⁵ Τί (What) γὰρ (for) ὠφελεῖται (is profited) ἄνθρωπος (a man), κερδήσας (having gained) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ὅλον (whole), ἑαυτὸν (himself) δὲ (now) ἀπολέσας (having destroyed), ἢ (or) ζημιωθείς (having suffered the loss of)? ²⁶ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ἐπαισχυνθῇ (may have been ashamed of) με (Me) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) ἐμοὺς (My) λόγους (words), τοῦτον (him) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐπαισχυνθήσεται (will be ashamed of) ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (He shall come) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Himself), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Πατρὸς (Father), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (holy) ἀγγέλων (angels). ²⁷ λέγω (I say) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (to you) ἀληθῶς (truthfully), εἰσίν (there are) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) αὐτοῦ (here) ἑστηκότων (standing), οἳ (who) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) γεύσωνται (shall taste) θανάτου (of death) ἕως (until) ἂν (-) ἴδωσιν (they shall have seen) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

¹⁵ οὐκέτι (No longer) λέγω (I call) ὑμᾶς (you) δούλους (servants), ὅτι (for) ὁ (the) δοῦλος (servant) οὐκ (not) οἶδεν (knows) τί (what) ποιεῖ (is doing) αὐτοῦ (his) ὁ (-) κύριος (master). ὑμᾶς (You) δὲ (however) εἴρηκα (I have called) φίλους (friends), ὅτι (because) πάντα (all things) ἃ (that) ἤκουσα (I heard) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), ἐγνώρισα (I have made known) ὑμῖν (to you).

⁵ Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ἡ (the) ἄμπελος (vine); ὑμεῖς (you are) τὰ (the) κλήματα (branches). ὁ (The one) μένων (abiding) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me), κἀγὼ (and I) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him), οὗτος (he) φέρει (bears) καρπὸν (fruit) πολύν (much). ὅτι (For) χωρὶς (apart from) ἐμοῦ (Me) οὐ (not) δύνασθε (you are able) ποιεῖν (to do) οὐδέν (nothing).

²⁷ ὅσοι (As many as) γὰρ (for) εἰς (into) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐβαπτίσθητε (you were baptized), Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐνεδύσασθε (you have put on). ²⁸ οὐκ (Neither) ἔνι (there is) Ἰουδαῖος (Jew) οὐδὲ (nor) Ἕλλην (Greek); οὐκ (neither) ἔνι (there is) δοῦλος (slave) οὐδὲ (nor) ἐλεύθερος (free); οὐκ (neither) ἔνι (there is) ἄρσεν (male) καὶ (and) θῆλυ (female); πάντες (all) γὰρ (for) ὑμεῖς (you) εἷς (one) ἐστε (are) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ²⁹ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) ὑμεῖς (you are) Χριστοῦ (Christ’s), ἄρα (then) τοῦ (-) Ἀβραὰμ (Abraham’s) σπέρμα (seed) ἐστέ (you are), κατ’ (according to) ἐπαγγελίαν (the promise) κληρονόμοι (heirs).

²² ἀποθέσθαι (Are to have put off) ὑμᾶς (you), κατὰ (concerning) τὴν (the) προτέραν (former) ἀναστροφὴν (way of life), τὸν (the) παλαιὸν (old) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (which) φθειρόμενον (is being corrupted), κατὰ (according to) τὰς (its) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) τῆς (-) ἀπάτης (of deceit), ²³ ἀνανεοῦσθαι (to be renewed) δὲ (then) τῷ (in the) πνεύματι (spirit) τοῦ (of the) νοὸς (mind) ὑμῶν (of you), ²⁴ καὶ (and) ἐνδύσασθαι (to have put on) τὸν (the) καινὸν (new) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (-) κατὰ (according to) Θεὸν (God) κτισθέντα (having been created) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ὁσιότητι (holiness) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth).

¹ Εἰ (If) οὖν (then) συνηγέρθητε (you have been raised with) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ), τὰ (the things) ἄνω (above) ζητεῖτε (seek), οὗ (where) ὁ (-) Χριστός (Christ) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (at the) δεξιᾷ (right hand) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καθήμενος (sitting). ² τὰ (The things) ἄνω (above) φρονεῖτε (set your minds on), μὴ (not) τὰ (the things) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth). ³ ἀπεθάνετε (You have died) γάρ (for), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ὑμῶν (of you) κέκρυπται (has been hidden) σὺν (with) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God). ⁴ ὅταν (When) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) φανερωθῇ (may be revealed), ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ὑμῶν* (of you), τότε (then) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) φανερωθήσεσθε (will appear) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory).

¹⁹ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) ὑμῶν (of you) ναὸς (a temple) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is), οὗ (whom) ἔχετε (you have) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (you are) ἑαυτῶν (your own), ²⁰ ἠγοράσθητε (you were bought) γὰρ (for) τιμῆς (with a price); δοξάσατε (glorify) δὴ (therefore) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματι (body) ὑμῶν (of you).

²⁷ Ὑμεῖς (You) δέ (now) ἐστε (are) σῶμα (the body) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (and) μέλη (members) ἐκ (in) μέρους (particular).

¹⁰ αὐτοῦ (Of Him) γάρ (for) ἐσμεν (we are) ποίημα (workmanship), κτισθέντες (having been created) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἐπὶ (for) ἔργοις (works) ἀγαθοῖς (good), οἷς (which) προητοίμασεν (prepared beforehand) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ἵνα (that) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them) περιπατήσωμεν (we should walk).

¹ Ἴδετε (Behold) ποταπὴν (what) ἀγάπην (love) δέδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (to us) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father), ἵνα (that) τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God) κληθῶμεν (we should be called) — καὶ (and) ἐσμέν (we are)! διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) οὐ (not) γινώσκει (knows) ἡμᾶς (us), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔγνω (it knew) αὐτόν (Him). ² Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), νῦν (now) τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐσμεν (are we), καὶ (and) οὔπω (not yet) ἐφανερώθη (has been revealed) τί (what) ἐσόμεθα (we will be). οἴδαμεν (We know) ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (when) φανερωθῇ (He appears), ὅμοιοι (like) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐσόμεθα (we will be), ὅτι (for) ὀψόμεθα (we will see) αὐτὸν (Him) καθώς (as) ἐστιν (He is). ³ καὶ (And) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) ἐλπίδα (hope) ταύτην (this) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῷ (Him), ἁγνίζει (purifies) ἑαυτὸν (himself), καθὼς (just as) ἐκεῖνος (He) ἁγνός (pure) ἐστιν (is).

²⁰ Χριστῷ (Christ) συνεσταύρωμαι (I have been crucified with); ζῶ (I live) δὲ (now), οὐκέτι (no longer) ἐγώ (I); ζῇ (lives) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (me) Χριστός (Christ); ὃ (that which) δὲ (then) νῦν (now) ζῶ (I live) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), ἐν (through) πίστει (faith) ζῶ (I live), τῇ (that) τοῦ (from the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (the One) ἀγαπήσαντός (having loved) με (me) καὶ (and) παραδόντος (having given up) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ὑπὲρ (for) ἐμοῦ (me).

⁹ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) γένος (are a race) ἐκλεκτόν (chosen), βασίλειον (a royal) ἱεράτευμα (priesthood), ἔθνος (a nation) ἅγιον (holy), λαὸς (a people) εἰς (for His) περιποίησιν (possession), ὅπως (so that) τὰς (the) ἀρετὰς (excellencies) ἐξαγγείλητε (you may proclaim) τοῦ (of the One) ἐκ (out of) σκότους (darkness) ὑμᾶς (you) καλέσαντος (having called), εἰς (to) τὸ (the) θαυμαστὸν (marvelous) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φῶς (light),

¹⁷ ὥστε (Therefore) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) ἐν (is in) Χριστῷ (Christ), καινὴ (he is a new) κτίσις (creation). τὰ (The) ἀρχαῖα (old things) παρῆλθεν (have passed away); ἰδοὺ (behold), γέγονεν (has come into being) καινά (the new).
