¹³ Ἐπεχείρησαν (Attempted) δέ (now) τινες (some of) καὶ (also) τῶν (of the) περιερχομένων (itinerant) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), ἐξορκιστῶν (exorcists), ὀνομάζειν (to invoke) ἐπὶ (over) τοὺς (those) ἔχοντας (having) τὰ (-) πνεύματα (spirits) τὰ (-) πονηρὰ (evil) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), λέγοντες (saying), “Ὁρκίζω (I adjure) ὑμᾶς (you) τὸν (by) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ὃν (whom) Παῦλος (Paul) κηρύσσει (proclaims).” ¹⁴ ἦσαν (They were) δέ (now) τινος (certain) Σκευᾶ (of Sceva), Ἰουδαίου (a Jew), ἀρχιερέως (a high priest), ἑπτὰ (seven) υἱοὶ (sons), τοῦτο (this) ποιοῦντες (were doing). ¹⁵ ἀποκριθὲν (Answering) δὲ (however), τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) τὸ (-) πονηρὸν (evil) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) Τὸν (-), “[Μὲν] (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) γινώσκω (I know), καὶ (and) τὸν (-) Παῦλον (Paul) ἐπίσταμαι (I am acquainted with); ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (however), τίνες (who) ἐστέ (are you)?” ¹⁶ καὶ (And) ἐφαλόμενος (having leapt) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) ἦν (was) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) τὸ (-) πονηρὸν (evil), κατακυριεύσας (having overpowered) ἀμφοτέρων (them all), ἴσχυσεν (he prevailed) κατ’ (against) αὐτῶν (them) ὥστε (so that) γυμνοὺς (naked) καὶ (and) τετραυματισμένους (wounded) ἐκφυγεῖν (they fled) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) οἴκου (house) ἐκείνου (that). ¹⁷ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (now) ἐγένετο (became) γνωστὸν (known) πᾶσιν (to all) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews) τε (both) καὶ (and) Ἕλλησιν (Greeks), τοῖς (those) κατοικοῦσιν (inhabiting) τὴν (-) Ἔφεσον (Ephesus); καὶ (and) ἐπέπεσεν (fell) φόβος (fear) ἐπὶ (upon) πάντας (all) αὐτούς (them), καὶ (and) ἐμεγαλύνετο (was being magnified) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ¹⁸ πολλοί (Many) τε (then) τῶν (of those) πεπιστευκότων (having believed) ἤρχοντο (were coming), ἐξομολογούμενοι (confessing) καὶ (and) ἀναγγέλλοντες (declaring) τὰς (the) πράξεις (deeds) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁹ ἱκανοὶ (Many) δὲ (now) τῶν (of those) τὰ (the) περίεργα (magic arts) πραξάντων (having practiced), συνενέγκαντες (having brought) τὰς (the) βίβλους (books), κατέκαιον (burned them) ἐνώπιον (before) πάντων (all). καὶ (And) συνεψήφισαν (they counted up) τὰς (the) τιμὰς (prices) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) εὗρον (found it) ἀργυρίου (of silverlings) μυριάδας (myriads) πέντε (five). ²⁰ Οὕτως (Thus) κατὰ (with) κράτος (might) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) ηὔξανεν (continued to increase) καὶ (and) ἴσχυεν (prevail).

⁹ ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) ὁμολογήσῃς (you confess) ἐν (with) τῷ (the) στόματί (mouth) σου (of you), “Κύριον (The Lord is) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus),” καὶ (and) πιστεύσῃς (believe) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) σου (of you), ὅτι (that) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) αὐτὸν (Him) ἤγειρεν (raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), σωθήσῃ (you will be saved).

¹⁴ Μὴ (Not) γίνεσθε (become) ἑτεροζυγοῦντες (unequally yoked together) ἀπίστοις (with unbelievers); τίς (what) γὰρ (for) μετοχὴ (partnership have) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ἀνομίᾳ (lawlessness)? ἢ (Or) τίς (what) κοινωνία (fellowship) φωτὶ (light) πρὸς (with) σκότος (darkness)? ¹⁵ τίς (What) δὲ (now) συμφώνησις (harmony) Χριστοῦ (Christ) πρὸς (with) Βελιάρ (Belial)? ἢ (Or) τίς (what) μερὶς (part) πιστῷ (to a believer) μετὰ (with) ἀπίστου (an unbeliever)? ¹⁶ τίς (What) δὲ (now) συνκατάθεσις (agreement) ναῷ (the temple) Θεοῦ (of God) μετὰ (with) εἰδώλων (idols)? ἡμεῖς (We) γὰρ (for) ναὸς (the temple) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐσμεν (are), ζῶντος (the living), καθὼς (as) εἶπεν (has said) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ὅτι (-): “Ἐνοικήσω (I will dwell) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) ἐμπεριπατήσω* (will walk among them); καὶ (and) ἔσομαι (I will be) αὐτῶν (their) Θεός (God), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) ἔσονταί (will be) μου (to Me) λαός (a people).” ¹⁷ “Διὸ (Therefore) ἐξέλθατε (come out) ἐκ (from) μέσου (the midst) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) ἀφορίσθητε (be separate), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord), καὶ (and) ἀκαθάρτου (unclean) μὴ (nothing) ἅπτεσθε (touch), κἀγὼ (and I) εἰσδέξομαι (will receive) ὑμᾶς (you).” ¹⁸ Καὶ (and) “Ἔσομαι (I will be) ὑμῖν (to you) εἰς (for) Πατέρα (a father), καὶ (and) ὑμεῖς (you) ἔσεσθέ (will be) μοι (to Me) εἰς (for) υἱοὺς (sons) καὶ (and) θυγατέρας (daughters), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord) Παντοκράτωρ (Almighty).”

¹ Ταύτας (These) οὖν (therefore) ἔχοντες (having) τὰς (-) ἐπαγγελίας (promises), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), καθαρίσωμεν (we should cleanse) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) ἀπὸ (from) παντὸς (every) μολυσμοῦ (defilement) σαρκὸς (of flesh) καὶ (and) πνεύματος (spirit), ἐπιτελοῦντες (perfecting) ἁγιωσύνην (holiness) ἐν (in) φόβῳ (the fear) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁹ οἴδαμεν (We know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐσμεν (we are), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) ὅλος (whole), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πονηρῷ (evil one) κεῖται (lies).

⁶ Μηδεὶς (No one) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀπατάτω (let deceive) κενοῖς (with empty) λόγοις (words), διὰ (because of) ταῦτα (these things) γὰρ (for) ἔρχεται (comes) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπὶ (upon) τοὺς (the) υἱοὺς (sons) τῆς (-) ἀπειθείας (of disobedience). ⁷ μὴ (Not) οὖν (therefore) γίνεσθε (be) συμμέτοχοι (partakers) αὐτῶν (with them). ⁸ Ἦτε (You were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) σκότος (darkness); νῦν (now) δὲ (however), φῶς (light) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord); ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) φωτὸς (of light) περιπατεῖτε (walk)— ⁹ ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) καρπὸς (the fruit) τοῦ (of the) φωτὸς (light is) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) ἀγαθωσύνῃ (goodness) καὶ (and) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ἀληθείᾳ (truth)— ¹⁰ δοκιμάζοντες (discerning) τί (what) ἐστιν (is) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord). ¹¹ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συνκοινωνεῖτε (have fellowship with) τοῖς (the) ἔργοις (works) τοῖς (-) ἀκάρποις (unfruitful) τοῦ (-) σκότους (of darkness); μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (however) καὶ (even) ἐλέγχετε (expose them); ¹² τὰ (the things) γὰρ (for) κρυφῇ (in secret) γινόμενα (being done) ὑπ’ (by) αὐτῶν (them), αἰσχρόν (shameful) ἐστιν (it is) καὶ (even) λέγειν (to mention).

⁸ Νήψατε (Be sober-minded); γρηγορήσατε (watch). ὁ (The) ἀντίδικος (adversary) ὑμῶν (of You), διάβολος (the devil), ὡς (as) λέων (a lion) ὠρυόμενος (roaring) περιπατεῖ (prowls about), ζητῶν (seeking) τινα (whom) καταπιεῖν (to devour),

²¹ οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) ποτήριον (the cup) Κυρίου (of the Lord) πίνειν (to drink), καὶ (and) ποτήριον (the cup) δαιμονίων (of demons). οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) τραπέζης (of the table) Κυρίου (of the Lord) μετέχειν (to partake), καὶ (and) τραπέζης (of the table) δαιμονίων (of demons).

²⁷ μηδὲ (neither) δίδοτε (give) τόπον (opportunity) τῷ (to the) διαβόλῳ (devil).
