²⁹ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) ὁ (-) δεξιὸς (right) σκανδαλίζει (causes to stumble) σε (you), ἔξελε (pluck out) αὐτὸν (it) καὶ (and) βάλε (cast it) ἀπὸ (from) σοῦ (you); συμφέρει (it is better) γάρ (for) σοι (for you) ἵνα (that) ἀπόληται (should perish) ἓν (one) τῶν (of the) μελῶν (members) σου (of you), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) βληθῇ (should be cast) εἰς (into) γέενναν (hell).

¹³ πειρασμὸς (Temptation) ὑμᾶς (you) οὐκ (not) εἴληφεν (has seized), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἀνθρώπινος (what is common to man); πιστὸς (faithful) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Θεός (is God), ὃς (who) οὐκ (not) ἐάσει (will allow) ὑμᾶς (you) πειρασθῆναι (to be tempted) ὑπὲρ (beyond) ὃ (what) δύνασθε (you are able), ἀλλὰ (but) ποιήσει (will provide), σὺν (with) τῷ (the) πειρασμῷ (temptation), καὶ (also) τὴν (the) ἔκβασιν (escape), τοῦ (-) δύνασθαι (to be able) ὑπενεγκεῖν (to endure it).

¹⁶ οὐ (not) παύομαι (do cease) εὐχαριστῶν (giving thanks) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you), μνείαν (mention) ποιούμενος (making) ἐπὶ (in) τῶν (the) προσευχῶν (prayers) μου (of me), ¹⁷ ἵνα (that) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory), δώῃ (may give) ὑμῖν (to you) πνεῦμα (a spirit) σοφίας (of wisdom) καὶ (and) ἀποκαλύψεως (revelation) ἐν (in) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ¹⁸ πεφωτισμένους (being enlightened) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) ὑμῶν (of you), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) εἰδέναι (to know) ὑμᾶς (you) τίς (what) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἐλπὶς (hope) τῆς (of the) κλήσεως (calling) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τίς (what) ὁ (are the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τῆς (of the) κληρονομίας (inheritance) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἁγίοις (saints), ¹⁹ καὶ (and) τί (what) τὸ (is the) ὑπερβάλλον (surpassing) μέγεθος (greatness) τῆς (of the) δυνάμεως (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (toward) ἡμᾶς (us), τοὺς (those) πιστεύοντας (believing) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἐνέργειαν (working) τοῦ (of the) κράτους (might) τῆς (of the) ἰσχύος (strength) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ²⁰ ἣν (which) ἐνήργηκεν (He worked) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ), ἐγείρας (having raised) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) καὶ (and) καθίσας (having set Him) ἐν (at) δεξιᾷ (the right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms), ²¹ ὑπεράνω (above) πάσης (every) ἀρχῆς (principality) καὶ (and) ἐξουσίας (authority) καὶ (and) δυνάμεως (power) καὶ (and) κυριότητος (dominion), καὶ (and) παντὸς (every) ὀνόματος (name) ὀνομαζομένου (being named), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) ἐν (in) τῷ (the one) μέλλοντι (coming).

²⁸ ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λέγω (say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) βλέπων (looking upon) γυναῖκα (a woman) πρὸς (in order) τὸ (-) ἐπιθυμῆσαι (to lust after) αὐτὴν (her) ἤδη (already) ἐμοίχευσεν (has committed adultery with) αὐτὴν (her) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²⁵ Εἶτα (Then) πάλιν (again) ἐπέθηκεν (He laid) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) ἐπὶ (upon) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) διέβλεψεν (he opened his eyes) καὶ (and) ἀπεκατέστη (he was restored), καὶ (and) ἐνέβλεπεν (he began to see) τηλαυγῶς (clearly) ἅπαντα (everything).

³³ Οὐδεὶς (But no one) λύχνον (a lamp) ἅψας (having lit), εἰς (in) κρύπτην (secret) τίθησιν (sets it), οὐδὲ (nor) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (the) μόδιον (basket), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) λυχνίαν (lampstand), ἵνα (that) οἱ (those) εἰσπορευόμενοι (entering in) τὸ (the) φέγγος (light) βλέπωσιν (may see). ³⁴ Ὁ (The) λύχνος (lamp) τοῦ (of your) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you). ὅταν (When) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) ἁπλοῦς (clear) ᾖ (is), καὶ (also) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) φωτεινόν (light) ἐστιν (is); ἐπὰν (when) δὲ (however) πονηρὸς (evil) ᾖ (it be), καὶ (also) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) σκοτεινόν (is dark). ³⁵ σκόπει (Take heed) οὖν (therefore), μὴ (lest) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τὸ (that is) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) σκότος (darkness) ἐστίν (be). ³⁶ εἰ (If) οὖν (therefore) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) ὅλον (is full) φωτεινόν (of light), μὴ (not) ἔχον (having) μέρος (part) τι (any) σκοτεινόν (dark), ἔσται (it will be) φωτεινὸν (light) ὅλον (all), ὡς (as) ὅταν (when) ὁ (the) λύχνος (lamp) τῇ (-) ἀστραπῇ (shining) φωτίζῃ (might light) σε (you).”

²² Ὁ (The) λύχνος (lamp) τοῦ (of the) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye). ἐὰν (If) οὖν (therefore) ᾖ (is) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) ἁπλοῦς (clear), ὅλον (the whole) τὸ (-) σῶμά (body) σου (of you) φωτεινὸν (full of light) ἔσται (will be).
