¹⁴ Πολλοὶ (Many) γάρ (for) εἰσιν (are) κλητοὶ (called), ὀλίγοι (few) δὲ (however) ἐκλεκτοί (chosen).”

²⁰ καὶ (And) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἐκολόβωσεν (had shortened) Κύριος (the Lord) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days), οὐκ (no) ἂν (-) ἐσώθη (there would have been saved) πᾶσα (any) σάρξ (flesh); ἀλλὰ (but) διὰ (on account of) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτοὺς (elect) οὓς (whom) ἐξελέξατο (He chose), ἐκολόβωσεν (He has shortened) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days).

⁴⁴ οὐδεὶς (No one) δύναται (is able) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρός (to) με (Me), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father), ὁ (the one) πέμψας (having sent) με (Me), ἑλκύσῃ (draws) αὐτόν (him), κἀγὼ (and I) ἀναστήσω (will raise up) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day).

³⁷ Πᾶν (All) ὃ (that) δίδωσίν (gives) μοι (Me) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father), πρὸς (to) ἐμὲ (Me) ἥξει (will come), καὶ (and) τὸν (the one) ἐρχόμενον (coming) πρός (to) με (Me), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐκβάλω (shall I cast) ἔξω (out).

⁴⁸ Ἀκούοντα (Hearing it) δὲ (then), τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) ἔχαιρον (were rejoicing) καὶ (and) ἐδόξαζον (glorifying) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), καὶ (and) ἐπίστευσαν (believed) ὅσοι (as many as) ἦσαν (were) τεταγμένοι (appointed) εἰς (to) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).

¹⁶ Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), οὐ (it is not) τοῦ (of the) θέλοντος (willing), οὐδὲ (nor) τοῦ (of the) τρέχοντος (running), ἀλλὰ (but) τοῦ (-) ἐλεῶντος (showing mercy) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁴ καθὼς (just as) ἐξελέξατο (He chose) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) πρὸ (before) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), εἶναι (to be) ἡμᾶς (for us) ἁγίους (holy) καὶ (and) ἀμώμους (blameless) κατενώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love)

⁹ τοῦ (the One) σώσαντος (having saved) ἡμᾶς (us), καὶ (and) καλέσαντος (having called us) κλήσει (with a calling) ἁγίᾳ (holy), οὐ (not) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) ἡμῶν (of us), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) ἰδίαν (His own) πρόθεσιν (purpose) καὶ (and) χάριν (grace), τὴν (-) δοθεῖσαν (having been given) ἡμῖν (us) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) πρὸ (before) χρόνων (time) αἰωνίων (eternal),

¹³ Ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) ὀφείλομεν (ought) εὐχαριστεῖν (to give thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) ἠγαπημένοι (beloved) ὑπὸ (by) Κυρίου (the Lord), ὅτι (that) εἵλατο (has chosen) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀπ᾽‿ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), εἰς (unto) σωτηρίαν (salvation) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (the sanctification) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit), καὶ (and) πίστει (by faith) ἀληθείας (of the truth);

⁸ καὶ (And) προσκυνήσουσιν (will worship) αὐτὸν (it) πάντες (all) οἱ (-) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), οὗ (of whom) οὐ (not) γέγραπται (have been written) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (names) αὐτοῦ (of them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) βιβλίῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) τοῦ (of the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb) τοῦ (-) ἐσφαγμένου (having been slain), ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the founding) κόσμου (of the world).

²⁸ Οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) τοῖς (to those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), πάντα (all things) συνεργεῖ (works together) (ὁ (-) θεὸς) (God) εἰς (for) ἀγαθόν (good), τοῖς (to those) κατὰ (according to) πρόθεσιν (His purpose) κλητοῖς (called) οὖσιν (being). ²⁹ ὅτι (For) οὓς (those whom) προέγνω (He foreknew), καὶ (also) προώρισεν (He predestined to be) συμμόρφους (conformed to) τῆς (the) εἰκόνος (image) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) εἶναι (to be) αὐτὸν (Him) πρωτότοκον (firstborn) ἐν (among) πολλοῖς (many) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers). ³⁰ οὓς (Those whom) δὲ (then) προώρισεν (He predestined), τούτους (these) καὶ (also) ἐκάλεσεν (He called); καὶ (and) οὓς (whom) ἐκάλεσεν (He called), τούτους (these) καὶ (also) ἐδικαίωσεν (He justified); οὓς (whom) δὲ (then) ἐδικαίωσεν (He justified), τούτους (these) καὶ (also) ἐδόξασεν (He glorified).

¹⁶ οὐχ (Not) ὑμεῖς (you) με (Me) ἐξελέξασθε (chose), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐγὼ (I) ἐξελεξάμην (chose) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) ἔθηκα (appointed) ὑμᾶς (you) ἵνα (that) ὑμεῖς (you) ὑπάγητε (should go) καὶ (and) καρπὸν (fruit) φέρητε (you should bear), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) καρπὸς (fruit) ὑμῶν (of you) μένῃ (should remain); ἵνα (so that) ὅ¦τι (whatever) ἂν (-) αἰτήσητε (you might ask) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), δῷ (He may give) ὑμῖν (you).

⁴ καθὼς (just as) ἐξελέξατο (He chose) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) πρὸ (before) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), εἶναι (to be) ἡμᾶς (for us) ἁγίους (holy) καὶ (and) ἀμώμους (blameless) κατενώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love) ⁵ προορίσας (having predestined) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰς (for) υἱοθεσίαν (divine adoption as sons) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), εἰς (to) αὐτόν (Himself), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) εὐδοκίαν (good pleasure) τοῦ (of the) θελήματος (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him),
