³⁷ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἔφη (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “‘Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) κύριον (the Lord) τὸν (the) Θεόν (God) σου (of you) ἐν (with) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) ψυχῇ (soul) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) ὅλῃ (all) τῇ (the) διανοίᾳ (mind) σου (of you).’ ³⁸ αὕτη (This) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) μεγάλη (great) καὶ (and) πρώτη (first) ἐντολή (commandment). ³⁹ δευτέρα (The second) ‹δὲ› (also) ὁμοία (is like) αὐτῇ (it): ‘Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) σου (of you) ὡς (as) σεαυτόν (yourself).’ ⁴⁰ ἐν (On) ταύταις (these) ταῖς (-) δυσὶν (two) ἐντολαῖς (commandments), ὅλος (all) ὁ (the) νόμος (law) κρέμαται (hangs) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) προφῆται (Prophets).”

⁴⁴ ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) πατρὸς (father) τοῦ (the) διαβόλου (devil) ἐστὲ (are), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) τοῦ (of) πατρὸς (father) ὑμῶν (of you), θέλετε (you desire) ποιεῖν (to do). ἐκεῖνος (He) ἀνθρωποκτόνος (a murderer) ἦν (was) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστηκεν (has stood), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἀλήθεια (truth) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him). ὅταν (Whenever) λαλῇ (he might speak) τὸ (-) ψεῦδος (falsehood), ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ἰδίων (own) λαλεῖ (he speaks); ὅτι (for) ψεύστης (a liar) ἐστὶν (he is), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) αὐτοῦ (of it).

¹⁹ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) ὑμῶν (of you) ναὸς (a temple) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is), οὗ (whom) ἔχετε (you have) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (you are) ἑαυτῶν (your own), ²⁰ ἠγοράσθητε (you were bought) γὰρ (for) τιμῆς (with a price); δοξάσατε (glorify) δὴ (therefore) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματι (body) ὑμῶν (of you).

¹⁵ Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὰ (the) σώματα (bodies) ὑμῶν (of you) μέλη (members) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ἐστιν (are)? ἄρας (Having taken) οὖν (then) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ποιήσω (shall I make) πόρνης (them of a prostitute) μέλη (members)? μὴ (Never) γένοιτο (may it be)! ¹⁶ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) κολλώμενος (being joined) τῇ (to the) πόρνῃ (prostitute), ἓν (one) σῶμά (body) ἐστιν (is)? “Ἔσονται (Will become),” γάρ (for) φησίν (it says), “Οἱ (the) δύο (two) εἰς (into) σάρκα (flesh) μίαν (one).” ¹⁷ ὁ (The one) δὲ (however) κολλώμενος (being joined) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), ἓν (one) πνεῦμά (spirit) ἐστιν (is). ¹⁸ Φεύγετε (Flee) τὴν (-) πορνείαν (sexual immorality). πᾶν (Every) ἁμάρτημα (sin), ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) ποιήσῃ (might do) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐκτὸς (outside) τοῦ (the) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) πορνεύων (sinning sexually), εἰς (against) τὸ (the) ἴδιον (own) σῶμα (body) ἁμαρτάνει (sins). ¹⁹ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) ὑμῶν (of you) ναὸς (a temple) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is), οὗ (whom) ἔχετε (you have) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (you are) ἑαυτῶν (your own), ²⁰ ἠγοράσθητε (you were bought) γὰρ (for) τιμῆς (with a price); δοξάσατε (glorify) δὴ (therefore) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματι (body) ὑμῶν (of you).

² ἐν (in) αἷς (which) ποτε (once) περιεπατήσατε (you walked), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) ἄρχοντα (ruler) τῆς (of the) ἐξουσίας (authority) τοῦ (of the) ἀέρος (air), τοῦ (the) πνεύματος (spirit) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now) ἐνεργοῦντος (working) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) υἱοῖς (sons) τῆς (-) ἀπειθείας (of disobedience),

²³ πάντες (All) γὰρ (for) ἥμαρτον (have sinned) καὶ (and) ὑστεροῦνται (fall short) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God),

⁴⁶ Τί (Why) δέ (now) με (Me) καλεῖτε (do you call) ‘Κύριε (Lord), κύριε (Lord),’ καὶ (and) οὐ (not) ποιεῖτε (do) ἃ (what) λέγω (I say)?

²⁹ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (however), Πέτρος (Peter) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀπόστολοι (apostles) εἶπαν (said), “Πειθαρχεῖν (To obey) δεῖ (it is necessary) Θεῷ (God), μᾶλλον (rather) ἢ (than) ἀνθρώποις (men).

²³ τὰ (The) γὰρ (for) ὀψώνια (wages) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin) θάνατος (is death); τὸ (-) δὲ (but) χάρισμα (the gift) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τῷ (the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us).

⁹ ἐὰν (If) ὁμολογῶμεν (we should confess) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) ἡμῶν (of us), πιστός (faithful) ἐστιν (He is) καὶ (and) δίκαιος (just), ἵνα (that) ἀφῇ (He may forgive) ἡμῖν (us) τὰς (our) ἁμαρτίας (sins), καὶ (and) καθαρίσῃ (might cleanse) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπὸ (from) πάσης (all) ἀδικίας (unrighteousness).

¹⁵ Ἐὰν (If) ἀγαπᾶτέ (you love) με (Me), τὰς (-) ἐντολὰς (commandments) τὰς (-) ἐμὰς (My) τηρήσετε (you will keep).

¹ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (however) γίνωσκε (realize), ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) ἐσχάταις (the last) ἡμέραις (days) ἐνστήσονται (will be present) καιροὶ (times) χαλεποί (difficult). ² ἔσονται (Will be) γὰρ (for) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) φίλαυτοι (lovers of self), φιλάργυροι (lovers of money), ἀλαζόνες (boastful), ὑπερήφανοι (proud), βλάσφημοι (abusive), γονεῦσιν (to parents) ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), ἀχάριστοι (ungrateful), ἀνόσιοι (unholy), ³ ἄστοργοι (unloving), ἄσπονδοι (implacable), διάβολοι (slanderous), ἀκρατεῖς (without self-control), ἀνήμεροι (savage), ἀφιλάγαθοι (without love of good), ⁴ προδόται (treacherous), προπετεῖς (reckless), τετυφωμένοι (puffed up), φιλήδονοι (lovers of pleasure) μᾶλλον (rather) ἢ (than) φιλόθεοι (lovers of God), ⁵ ἔχοντες (having) μόρφωσιν (a form) εὐσεβείας (of godliness) τὴν (-) δὲ (but) δύναμιν (the power) αὐτῆς (of it) ἠρνημένοι (denying). καὶ (And) τούτους (these) ἀποτρέπου (turn away from). ⁶ Ἐκ (Out of) τούτων (this sort) γάρ (for) εἰσιν (are) οἱ (those) ἐνδύνοντες (entering) εἰς (into) τὰς (-) οἰκίας (households) καὶ (and) αἰχμαλωτίζοντες (taking captive) γυναικάρια (weak women), σεσωρευμένα (burdened) ἁμαρτίαις (with sins), ἀγόμενα (being led away) ἐπιθυμίαις (by passions) ποικίλαις (various), ⁷ πάντοτε (always) μανθάνοντα (learning) καὶ (and) μηδέποτε (never) εἰς (to) ἐπίγνωσιν (a knowledge) ἀληθείας (of the truth) ἐλθεῖν (to come) δυνάμενα (being able).

¹⁴ ἕκαστος (A man) δὲ (however) πειράζεται (is tempted), ὑπὸ (by) τῆς (the) ἰδίας (own) ἐπιθυμίας (desire) ἐξελκόμενος (being drawn away) καὶ (and) δελεαζόμενος (being enticed). ¹⁵ εἶτα (Then) ἡ (-) ἐπιθυμία (desire), συλλαβοῦσα (having conceived), τίκτει (gives birth to) ἁμαρτίαν (sin); ἡ (-) δὲ (and) ἁμαρτία (sin) ἀποτελεσθεῖσα (having become fully grown), ἀποκύει (brings forth) θάνατον (death).
