²⁸ ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λέγω (say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) βλέπων (looking upon) γυναῖκα (a woman) πρὸς (in order) τὸ (-) ἐπιθυμῆσαι (to lust after) αὐτὴν (her) ἤδη (already) ἐμοίχευσεν (has committed adultery with) αὐτὴν (her) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him).

⁵ λογισμοὺς (arguments) καθαιροῦντες (overthrowing), καὶ (and) πᾶν (every) ὕψωμα (high thing) ἐπαιρόμενον (lifting itself up) κατὰ (against) τῆς (the) γνώσεως (knowledge) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) αἰχμαλωτίζοντες (taking captive) πᾶν (every) νόημα (thought) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ὑπακοὴν (obedience) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

² τὰ (The things) ἄνω (above) φρονεῖτε (set your minds on), μὴ (not) τὰ (the things) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth). ³ ἀπεθάνετε (You have died) γάρ (for), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ὑμῶν (of you) κέκρυπται (has been hidden) σὺν (with) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God). ⁴ ὅταν (When) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) φανερωθῇ (may be revealed), ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ὑμῶν* (of you), τότε (then) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) φανερωθήσεσθε (will appear) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory). ⁵ Νεκρώσατε (Put to death) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) τὰ (which are) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth): πορνείαν (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσίαν (impurity), πάθος (passion), ἐπιθυμίαν (desire) κακήν (evil), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πλεονεξίαν (covetousness), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) εἰδωλολατρία (idolatry),

⁸ Τὸ (-) λοιπόν (Finally), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὅσα (whatever) ἐστὶν (is) ἀληθῆ (true), ὅσα (whatever) σεμνά (venerable), ὅσα (whatever) δίκαια (right), ὅσα (whatever) ἁγνά (pure), ὅσα (whatever) προσφιλῆ (lovely), ὅσα (whatever) εὔφημα (admirable) — εἴ (if) τις (any) ἀρετὴ (excellence) καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (any) ἔπαινος (praise) — ταῦτα (these things) λογίζεσθε (think on). ⁹ ἃ (What) καὶ (also) ἐμάθετε (you have learned) καὶ (and) παρελάβετε (have received) καὶ (and) ἠκούσατε (have heard) καὶ (and) εἴδετε (have seen) ἐν (in) ἐμοί (me), ταῦτα (these things) πράσσετε (practice); καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) τῆς (-) εἰρήνης (of peace) ἔσται (will be) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you).

²⁵ τίς (Which) δὲ (now) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you), μεριμνῶν (being anxious), δύναται (is able) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) ἡλικίαν (lifespan) αὐτοῦ (of him) προσθεῖναι (to add) πῆχυν (one hour)? ²⁶ εἰ (If) οὖν (then) οὐδὲ (not even) ἐλάχιστον (the least) δύνασθε (you are able to do), τί (why) περὶ (about) τῶν (the) λοιπῶν (rest) μεριμνᾶτε (are you anxious)?

³⁰ Οὐ (Not) δύναμαι (am able) ἐγὼ (I) ποιεῖν (to do) ἀπ’ (of) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself) οὐδέν (nothing); καθὼς (as) ἀκούω (I hear), κρίνω (I judge); καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κρίσις (judgment) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (of Me) δικαία (just) ἐστίν (is), ὅτι (because) οὐ (not) ζητῶ (I seek) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (of Me), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me).

⁹ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) ἐγκρατεύονται (they have self-control), γαμησάτωσαν (let them marry); κρεῖττον (better) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (it is) γαμῆσαι* (to marry) ἢ (than) πυροῦσθαι (to burn with passion).

⁴ Ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (Love) μακροθυμεῖ (is patient), χρηστεύεται (is kind); ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) οὐ (not) ζηλοῖ (is envious); ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) οὐ (not) περπερεύεται (is boastful), οὐ (not) φυσιοῦται (is puffed up), ⁵ οὐκ (not) ἀσχημονεῖ (acts unbecomingly); οὐ (not) ζητεῖ (seeks) τὰ (the things) ἑαυτῆς (of its own), οὐ (not) παροξύνεται (is easily provoked), οὐ (not) λογίζεται (it keeps account) τὸ (-) κακόν (of wrongs); ⁶ οὐ (not) χαίρει (delights) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (-) ἀδικίᾳ (unrighteousness), συνχαίρει (rejoices) δὲ (however) τῇ (in the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth). ⁷ πάντα (All things) στέγει (it bears), πάντα (all things) πιστεύει (believes), πάντα (all things) ἐλπίζει (hopes), πάντα (all things) ὑπομένει (endures).

²² Τὰς (-) δὲ (And) νεωτερικὰς (youthful) ἐπιθυμίας (lusts) φεῦγε (flee); δίωκε (pursue) δὲ (now) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), πίστιν (faith), ἀγάπην (love), εἰρήνην (and peace), μετὰ (along with) τῶν (those) ἐπικαλουμένων (calling on) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) ἐκ (out of) καθαρᾶς (pure) καρδίας (a heart).
