² καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συσχηματίζεσθε (be conformed) τῷ (to the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταμορφοῦσθε (be transformed) τῇ (by the) ἀνακαινώσει (renewing) τοῦ (of the) νοός (mind), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) δοκιμάζειν (to prove) ὑμᾶς (by you), τί (what is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) καὶ (and) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) καὶ (and) τέλειον (perfect).

⁸ Τὸ (-) λοιπόν (Finally), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὅσα (whatever) ἐστὶν (is) ἀληθῆ (true), ὅσα (whatever) σεμνά (venerable), ὅσα (whatever) δίκαια (right), ὅσα (whatever) ἁγνά (pure), ὅσα (whatever) προσφιλῆ (lovely), ὅσα (whatever) εὔφημα (admirable) — εἴ (if) τις (any) ἀρετὴ (excellence) καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (any) ἔπαινος (praise) — ταῦτα (these things) λογίζεσθε (think on).

³ Οὐ (Not) μόνον (only so) δέ (now), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) καυχώμεθα (we glory) ἐν (in) ταῖς (-) θλίψεσιν (tribulations), εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) ἡ (-) θλῖψις (tribulation), ὑπομονὴν (perseverance) κατεργάζεται (produces); ⁴ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ὑπομονὴ (perseverance), δοκιμήν (character); ἡ (-) δὲ (and) δοκιμὴ (character), ἐλπίδα (hope). ⁵ ἡ (-) δὲ (And) ἐλπὶς (hope) οὐ (not) καταισχύνει (does make us ashamed), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐκκέχυται (has been poured out) ἐν (into) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (through) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), τοῦ (the One) δοθέντος (having been given) ἡμῖν (to us).

¹² Ὥστε (Therefore), ἀγαπητοί (beloved) μου (of me), καθὼς (just as) πάντοτε (always) ὑπηκούσατε (you have obeyed), μὴ (not) ὡς (as) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) παρουσίᾳ (presence) μου (of me) μόνον (only), ἀλλὰ (but) νῦν (now) πολλῷ (much) μᾶλλον (more) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀπουσίᾳ (absence) μου (of me), μετὰ (with) φόβου (fear) καὶ (and) τρόμου (trembling) τὴν (-) ἑαυτῶν (your own) σωτηρίαν (salvation) κατεργάζεσθε (work out). ¹³ Θεὸς (God) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the One) ἐνεργῶν (working) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) καὶ (both) τὸ (-) θέλειν (to will) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) ἐνεργεῖν (to work) ὑπὲρ (according to) τῆς (His) εὐδοκίας (good pleasure). ¹⁴ Πάντα (All things) ποιεῖτε (do) χωρὶς (without) γογγυσμῶν (murmurings) καὶ (and) διαλογισμῶν (disputings), ¹⁵ ἵνα (so that) γένησθε (you may be) ἄμεμπτοι (blameless) καὶ (and) ἀκέραιοι (innocent), τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God), ἄμωμα (unblemished) μέσον (in the midst) γενεᾶς (of a generation) σκολιᾶς (crooked) καὶ (and) διεστραμμένης (perverted), ἐν (among) οἷς (whom) φαίνεσθε (you shine) ὡς (as) φωστῆρες (lights) ἐν (in) κόσμῳ (the world), ¹⁶ λόγον (the word) ζωῆς (of life) ἐπέχοντες (holding forth), εἰς (unto) καύχημα (a boast) ἐμοὶ (to me) εἰς (in) ἡμέραν (the day) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰς (in) κενὸν (vain) ἔδραμον (I did run) οὐδὲ (nor) εἰς (in) κενὸν (vain) ἐκοπίασα (toil).

³ Ὡς (Accordingly), 〈τὰ〉 (-) πάντα (all things) ἡμῖν (to us) τῆς (the) θείας (divine) δυνάμεως (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὰ (-) πρὸς (toward) ζωὴν (life) καὶ (and) εὐσέβειαν (godliness) δεδωρημένης (has given), διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιγνώσεως (knowledge) τοῦ (of the One) καλέσαντος (having called) ἡμᾶς (us) ἰδίᾳ (by His own) δόξῃ (glory) καὶ (and) ἀρετῇ (excellence), ⁴ δι’ (through) ὧν (which) τὰ (the) τίμια (precious) καὶ (and) μέγιστα (magnificent) ἡμῖν (to us) ἐπαγγέλματα (promises) δεδώρηται (He has given), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τούτων (these) γένησθε (you might become) θείας (of the divine) κοινωνοὶ (partakers) φύσεως (nature), ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τῆς (the) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) ἐν (in) ἐπιθυμίᾳ (desire), φθορᾶς (decay). ⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸ (very reason) τοῦτο (for this) δὲ (now), σπουδὴν (earnestness) πᾶσαν (all) παρεισενέγκαντες (having brought in), ἐπιχορηγήσατε (supplement) ἐν (into) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith) ὑμῶν (of you) τὴν (-) ἀρετήν (virtue), ἐν (into) δὲ (and) τῇ (-) ἀρετῇ (virtue) τὴν (-) γνῶσιν (knowledge), ⁶ ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) γνώσει (knowledge) τὴν (-) ἐγκράτειαν (self-control), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ἐγκρατείᾳ (self-control) τὴν (-) ὑπομονήν (endurance), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ὑπομονῇ (endurance) τὴν (-) εὐσέβειαν (godliness), ⁷ ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) εὐσεβείᾳ (godliness) τὴν (-) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly affection), ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) φιλαδελφίᾳ (brotherly affection) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love). ⁸ ταῦτα (These things) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (in you) ὑπάρχοντα (being) καὶ (and) πλεονάζοντα (abounding), οὐκ (neither) ἀργοὺς (idle) οὐδὲ (nor) ἀκάρπους (unfruitful) καθίστησιν (make you), εἰς (as to) τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge). ⁹ ᾧ (In whomever) γὰρ (for) μὴ (not) πάρεστιν (are present) ταῦτα (these things), τυφλός (blind) ἐστιν (he is), μυωπάζων (being short sighted), λήθην (forgetfulness) λαβὼν (having received) τοῦ (of the) καθαρισμοῦ (purification) τῶν (the) πάλαι (former) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins). ¹⁰ Διὸ (Therefore) μᾶλλον (rather), ἀδελφοί (brothers), σπουδάσατε (be diligent), βεβαίαν (sure) ὑμῶν (your) τὴν (-) κλῆσιν (calling) καὶ (and) ἐκλογὴν (election) ποιεῖσθαι (to make), ταῦτα (these things) γὰρ (for) ποιοῦντες (practicing) οὐ (never) μὴ (not) πταίσητέ (shall you stumble) ποτε (at any time). ¹¹ οὕτως (In this way) γὰρ (for) πλουσίως (richly) ἐπιχορηγηθήσεται (will be supplied) ὑμῖν (to you) ἡ (the) εἴσοδος (entrance) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) αἰώνιον (eternal) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).
