³ “Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (the) πτωχοὶ (poor) τῷ (in the) πνεύματι (spirit), Ὅτι (for) αὐτῶν (theirs) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ⁴ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) πενθοῦντες (mourning), Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) παρακληθήσονται (will be comforted).

¹⁶ Ἐξομολογεῖσθε (Confess) οὖν (therefore) ἀλλήλοις (to one another) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins), καὶ (and) εὔχεσθε* (pray) ὑπὲρ (for) ἀλλήλων (one another), ὅπως (so that) ἰαθῆτε (you may be healed). πολὺ (Much) ἰσχύει (prevails) δέησις (the prayer) δικαίου (of a righteous man) ἐνεργουμένη (being made effective).

² καὶ (And) ἀνοίξας (opening) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐδίδασκεν (He was teaching) αὐτοὺς (them), λέγων (saying): ³ “Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (the) πτωχοὶ (poor) τῷ (in the) πνεύματι (spirit), Ὅτι (for) αὐτῶν (theirs) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ⁴ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) πενθοῦντες (mourning), Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) παρακληθήσονται (will be comforted). ⁵ Μακάριοι (Blessed) οἱ (the) πραεῖς (meek), Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth). ⁶ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) πεινῶντες (hungering) καὶ (and) διψῶντες (thirsting for) τὴν (-) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness); Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) χορτασθήσονται (will be filled). ⁷ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (the) ἐλεήμονες (merciful), Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) ἐλεηθήσονται (will receive mercy). ⁸ Μακάριοι (Blessed) οἱ (the) καθαροὶ (pure) τῇ (-) καρδίᾳ (in heart), Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ὄψονται (will see). ⁹ Μακάριοι (Blessed) οἱ (the) εἰρηνοποιοί (peacemakers), Ὅτι (for) αὐτοὶ (they) υἱοὶ (sons) Θεοῦ (of God) κληθήσονται (will be called). ¹⁰ Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) δεδιωγμένοι (having been persecuted) ἕνεκεν (on account of) δικαιοσύνης (righteousness), Ὅτι (for) αὐτῶν (theirs) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ¹¹ Μακάριοί (Blessed) ἐστε (are you) ὅταν (when) ὀνειδίσωσιν (they shall insult) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) διώξωσιν (shall persecute you), καὶ (and) εἴπωσιν (shall say) πᾶν (all kinds of) πονηρὸν (evil) καθ’ (against) ὑμῶν (you), ψευδόμενοι (lying) ἕνεκεν (on account of) ἐμοῦ (Me). ¹² χαίρετε (Rejoice) καὶ (and) ἀγαλλιᾶσθε (exult), ὅτι (for) ὁ (the) μισθὸς (reward) ὑμῶν (of you) πολὺς (is great) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens); οὕτως (thus) γὰρ (for) ἐδίωξαν (they persecuted) τοὺς (the) προφήτας (prophets) τοὺς (-) πρὸ (before) ὑμῶν (you).

⁸ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) θέλομεν (do we want) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀγνοεῖν (to be ignorant) ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὑπὲρ (as to) τῆς (the) θλίψεως (affliction) ἡμῶν (of us) τῆς (-) γενομένης (having happened) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἀσίᾳ (Asia), ὅτι (that) καθ’ (against) ὑπερβολὴν (excessively) ὑπὲρ (beyond our) δύναμιν (power), ἐβαρήθημεν (we were weighed), ὥστε (so as) ἐξαπορηθῆναι (to despair) ἡμᾶς (for us) καὶ (even) τοῦ (-) ζῆν (to live). ⁹ ἀλλὰ (But) αὐτοὶ (we) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (ourselves), τὸ (the) ἀπόκριμα (sentence) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death) ἐσχήκαμεν (had), ἵνα (in order that) μὴ (not) πεποιθότες (trusting) ὦμεν (we should be) ἐφ’ (in) ἑαυτοῖς (ourselves), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God), τῷ (the One) ἐγείροντι (raising) τοὺς (the) νεκρούς (dead), ¹⁰ ὃς (who) ἐκ (from) τηλικούτου (such a great) θανάτου (a death) ἐρρύσατο (has delivered) ἡμᾶς (us), καὶ (and) ῥύσεται (will deliver us), εἰς (in) ὃν (whom) ἠλπίκαμεν (we have hope) ὅτι (that) καὶ (also) ἔτι (still) ῥύσεται (He will deliver us),

²⁰ Χριστῷ (Christ) συνεσταύρωμαι (I have been crucified with); ζῶ (I live) δὲ (now), οὐκέτι (no longer) ἐγώ (I); ζῇ (lives) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (me) Χριστός (Christ); ὃ (that which) δὲ (then) νῦν (now) ζῶ (I live) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), ἐν (through) πίστει (faith) ζῶ (I live), τῇ (that) τοῦ (from the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (the One) ἀγαπήσαντός (having loved) με (me) καὶ (and) παραδόντος (having given up) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ὑπὲρ (for) ἐμοῦ (me).

⁶ μείζονα (Greater) δὲ (however) δίδωσιν (He gives) χάριν (grace). διὸ (Therefore) λέγει (it says): “Ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ὑπερηφάνοις (the proud) ἀντιτάσσεται (opposes), ταπεινοῖς (to the humble) δὲ (however) δίδωσιν (gives) χάριν (grace).”

²⁴ ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) κόκκος (grain) τοῦ (-) σίτου (of wheat), πεσὼν (having fallen) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἀποθάνῃ (should die), αὐτὸς (it) μόνος (alone) μένει (abides); ἐὰν (if) δὲ (however) ἀποθάνῃ (it should die), πολὺν (much) καρπὸν (fruit) φέρει (it bears).
