⁶² Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐδεὶς (No one) ἐπιβαλὼν (having laid) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) ἐπ’ (upon) ἄροτρον (the plow), καὶ (and) βλέπων (looking) εἰς (on) τὰ (the things) ὀπίσω (behind), εὔθετός (fit) ἐστιν (is) τῇ (for the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

⁸ Τῇ (-) γὰρ (For) χάριτί (by grace) ἐστε (you are) σεσῳσμένοι (saved) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) τοῦτο (this) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (yourselves); Θεοῦ (it is of God) τὸ (the) δῶρον (gift), ⁹ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (as a result of) ἔργων (works), ἵνα (so that) μή (not) τις (anyone) καυχήσηται (may boast).

²⁰ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τὰ (the) μιάσματα (pollutions) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐν (through) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τούτοις (in these) δὲ (now) πάλιν (again) ἐμπλακέντες (having been entangled) ἡττῶνται (they are subdued), γέγονεν (has become) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last state) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). ²¹ κρεῖττον (Better) γὰρ (for) ἦν (it would have been) αὐτοῖς (for them) μὴ (not) ἐπεγνωκέναι (to have known) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (way) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ἢ (than) ἐπιγνοῦσιν (having known it), ὑποστρέψαι (to have turned) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) παραδοθείσης (having been delivered) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἁγίας (holy) ἐντολῆς (commandment). ²² συμβέβηκεν (Has happened) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸ (the thing) τῆς (of the) ἀληθοῦς (true) παροιμίας (proverb): “Κύων (A dog) ἐπιστρέψας (having returned) ἐπὶ (to) τὸ (its) ἴδιον (own) ἐξέραμα (vomit),” καί (and), “Ὗς (A sow) λουσαμένη (having washed), εἰς (to her) κυλισμὸν (rolling place) βορβόρου (in the mire).”

¹ Τῷ (To the) ἀγγέλῳ (messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Ἐφέσῳ (Ephesus) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the One) κρατῶν (holding) τοὺς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρας (stars) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δεξιᾷ (right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ὁ (-) περιπατῶν (walking) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) ἑπτὰ (seven) λυχνιῶν (lampstands) τῶν (-) χρυσῶν (golden). ² Οἶδα (I know) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) σου (of you), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) κόπον (labor) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) ὑπομονήν (endurance) σου (of you), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) οὐ (not) δύνῃ (you are able) βαστάσαι (to tolerate) κακούς (evil ones). καὶ (And) ἐπείρασας (you have tested) τοὺς (those) λέγοντας (claiming) ἑαυτοὺς (to be) ἀποστόλους (apostles) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσίν (are), καὶ (and) εὗρες (you have found) αὐτοὺς (them) ψευδεῖς (false). ³ καὶ (And) ὑπομονὴν (perseverance) ἔχεις (you have), καὶ (and) ἐβάστασας (have endured) διὰ (for the sake of) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) κεκοπίακες (have grown weary). ⁴ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὅτι (that) τὴν (the) ἀγάπην (love) σου (of you) τὴν (-) πρώτην (first), ἀφῆκες (you have abandoned). ⁵ μνημόνευε (Remember) οὖν (therefore) πόθεν (from where) πέπτωκας* (you have fallen), καὶ (and) μετανόησον (repent), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πρῶτα (first) ἔργα (works) ποίησον (do). εἰ (If) δὲ (however) μή (not), ἔρχομαί (I am coming) σοι (to you), καὶ (and) κινήσω (I will remove) τὴν (the) λυχνίαν (lampstand) σου (of you) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) τόπου (place) αὐτῆς (of it), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοήσῃς (you should repent). ⁶ Ἀλλὰ (But) τοῦτο (this) ἔχεις (you have), ὅτι (that) μισεῖς (you hate) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τῶν (of the) Νικολαϊτῶν (Nicolaitans), ἃ (which) κἀγὼ (I also) μισῶ (hate). ⁷ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). Τῷ (To the one) νικῶντι (overcoming), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) φαγεῖν (to eat) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) ξύλου (tree) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Παραδείσῳ (paradise) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ⁸ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to the) ἀγγέλῳ (messenger) τῆς (of) ἐν (in) Σμύρνῃ (Smyrna) ἐκκλησίας (the church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (First) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἔσχατος (Last), ὃς (who) ἐγένετο (became) νεκρὸς (dead) καὶ (and) ἔζησεν (came to life). ⁹ Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὴν (-) θλῖψιν (tribulation) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πτωχείαν (poverty) — ἀλλὰ (but) πλούσιος (rich) εἶ (you are) — καὶ (and) τὴν (the) βλασφημίαν (slander) ἐκ (of) τῶν (those) λεγόντων (claiming) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) εἶναι (to be) ἑαυτούς (themselves), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσίν (are), ἀλλὰ (but) συναγωγὴ (a synagogue) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan). ¹⁰ Μηδὲν* (Not) φοβοῦ (fear) ἃ (what) μέλλεις (you are about) πάσχειν (to suffer). ἰδοὺ (Behold), μέλλει (is about) βάλλειν (to cast) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil) ἐξ (some of) ὑμῶν (you) εἰς (into) φυλακὴν (prison), ἵνα (so that) πειρασθῆτε (you might be tested); καὶ (and) ἕξετε (you shall have) θλῖψιν (tribulation) ἡμερῶν (days) δέκα (ten). γίνου (Be) πιστὸς (faithful) ἄχρι (unto) θανάτου (death), καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) σοι (to you) τὸν (the) στέφανον (crown) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life). ¹¹ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀδικηθῇ (shall be injured) ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) θανάτου (death) τοῦ (-) δευτέρου (second). ¹² Καὶ (And) τῷ (to) ἀγγέλῳ (the messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Περγάμῳ (Pergamum) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the One) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) ῥομφαίαν (sword) τὴν (-) δίστομον (two-edged) τὴν (-) ὀξεῖαν (sharp). ¹³ Οἶδα (I know) ποῦ (where) κατοικεῖς (you dwell), ὅπου (where) ὁ (the) θρόνος (throne) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan is); καὶ (and) κρατεῖς (you hold fast to) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠρνήσω (you have denied) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) μου (of Me), καὶ (even) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) Ἀντιπᾶς (of Antipas), ὁ (the) μάρτυς (witness) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) πιστός (faithful one) μου (of Me) ὃς (who) ἀπεκτάνθη (was killed) παρ’ (among) ὑμῖν (you), ὅπου (where) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) κατοικεῖ (dwells). ¹⁴ Ἀλλ’ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὀλίγα (a few things), ὅτι (because) ἔχεις (you have) ἐκεῖ (some there) κρατοῦντας (holding) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) Βαλαάμ (of Balaam), ὃς (who) ἐδίδασκεν (would teach) τῷ (-) Βαλὰκ (Balak) βαλεῖν (to cast) σκάνδαλον (a snare) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) υἱῶν (sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols), καὶ (and) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality). ¹⁵ οὕτως (So) ἔχεις (have) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) κρατοῦντας (some holding) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) τῶν (of the) Νικολαϊτῶν (Nicolaitans) ὁμοίως (likewise). ¹⁶ μετανόησον (Repent) οὖν (therefore)! εἰ (If) δὲ (however) μή (not), ἔρχομαί (I am coming) σοι (to you) ταχύ (quickly), καὶ (and) πολεμήσω (I will make war) μετ’ (against) αὐτῶν (them) ἐν (with) τῇ (the) ῥομφαίᾳ (sword) τοῦ (of the) στόματός (mouth) μου (of Me).

¹⁸ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to) ἀγγέλῳ (the messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Θυατείροις (Thyatira) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (the One) ἔχων (having) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (like) φλόγα (a flame) πυρός (of fire), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόδες (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅμοιοι (like) χαλκολιβάνῳ (burnished bronze). ¹⁹ Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὰ (-) ἔργα (works), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πίστιν (faith), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) διακονίαν (service), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ὑπομονήν (perseverance) σου (of you); καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) σου (of you), τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (latter) πλείονα (are greater) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first). ²⁰ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὅτι (that) ἀφεῖς (you tolerate) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman) Ἰεζάβελ (Jezebel), ἡ (the one) λέγουσα (calling) ἑαυτὴν (herself) προφῆτιν (a prophetess) καὶ (and) διδάσκει (teaching) καὶ (and) πλανᾷ (misleading) τοὺς (-) ἐμοὺς (My) δούλους (servants) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality), καὶ (and) φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols). ²¹ καὶ (And) ἔδωκα (I have given) αὐτῇ (her) χρόνον (time) ἵνα (that) μετανοήσῃ (she might repent), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θέλει (she is willing) μετανοῆσαι (to repent) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her).

¹⁷ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). Τῷ (The one) νικῶντι (overcoming), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) τοῦ (the) μάννα (manna) τοῦ (-) κεκρυμμένου (having been hidden); καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) ψῆφον (stone) λευκήν (white), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) ψῆφον (stone) ὄνομα (a name) καινὸν (new) γεγραμμένον (having been written), ὃ (which) οὐδεὶς (no one) οἶδεν (has known), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the one) λαμβάνων (receiving it).

²² Ἰδοὺ (Behold), βάλλω (I will cast) αὐτὴν (her) εἰς (into) κλίνην (a sickbed), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) μοιχεύοντας (committing adultery) μετ’ (with) αὐτῆς (her) εἰς (into) θλῖψιν (tribulation) μεγάλην (great), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοήσωσιν* (they shall repent) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἔργων (deeds) αὐτῆς (of her). ²³ καὶ (And) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) αὐτῆς (of her) ἀποκτενῶ (I will kill) ἐν (with) θανάτῳ (death), καὶ (and) γνώσονται (will know) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) ἐκκλησίαι (churches) ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the One) ἐραυνῶν (searching) νεφροὺς (affections) καὶ (and) καρδίας (hearts); καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) ὑμῖν (of you) ἑκάστῳ (to each) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) ὑμῶν (of you). ²⁴ Ὑμῖν (To you) δὲ (however) λέγω (I say), τοῖς (to the) λοιποῖς (rest) τοῖς (of those) ἐν (in) Θυατείροις (Thyatira), ὅσοι (as many as) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (have) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) ταύτην (this), οἵτινες (who) οὐκ (not) ἔγνωσαν (have known) τὰ (the) βαθέα (depths) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan), ὡς (as) λέγουσιν (they say): οὐ (Not) βάλλω (I will cast) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἄλλο (any other) βάρος (burden). ²⁵ πλὴν (But) ὃ (to what) ἔχετε (you have), κρατήσατε (hold fast) ἄχρι (until) οὗ (which time) ἂν (-) ἥξω (I might come). ²⁶ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the one) νικῶν (overcoming) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) τηρῶν (keeping) ἄχρι (until) τέλους (the end) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) μου (of Me), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἐπὶ (over) τῶν (the) ἐθνῶν (nations), ²⁷ καὶ (and) ποιμανεῖ (he will shepherd) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (with) ῥάβδῳ (a rod) σιδηρᾷ (of iron), ὡς (as) τὰ (the) σκεύη (vessels of) τὰ (the) κεραμικὰ (potter) συντρίβεται (are broken in pieces), — ὡς (just as) κἀγὼ (I also) εἴληφα (have received) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me). ²⁸ καὶ (And) δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) τὸν (the) ἀστέρα (star) τὸν (-) πρωϊνόν (morning). ²⁹ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches).

¹ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to the) ἀγγέλῳ (messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Σάρδεσιν (Sardis) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the One) ἔχων (having) τὰ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) Πνεύματα (Spirits) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρας (stars). Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὰ (-) ἔργα (deeds), ὅτι (that) ὄνομα (the characterization) ἔχεις (you have) ὅτι (that) ζῇς (you are alive), καὶ (and yet) νεκρὸς (dead) εἶ (you are). ² γίνου (Be) γρηγορῶν (watching), καὶ (and) στήρισον (strengthen) τὰ (the things) λοιπὰ (that remain), ἃ (which) ἔμελλον (are about) ἀποθανεῖν (to die); οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) εὕρηκά (I have found) σου (your) ‹τὰ› (-) ἔργα (works) πεπληρωμένα (having been completed) ἐνώπιον (in the sight of) τοῦ (the) Θεοῦ (God) μου (of Me). ³ μνημόνευε (Remember) οὖν (therefore) πῶς (what) εἴληφας (you have received) καὶ (and) ἤκουσας (heard) — καὶ (and) τήρει (keep it) καὶ (and) μετανόησον (repent). ἐὰν (If) οὖν (therefore) μὴ (not) γρηγορήσῃς (you shall watch), ἥξω (I will come) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief), καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) γνῷς (shall you know) ποίαν (at what) ὥραν (hour) ἥξω (I will come) ἐπὶ (upon) σέ (you). ⁴ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχεις (you have) ὀλίγα (a few) ὀνόματα (people) ἐν (in) Σάρδεσιν (Sardis) ἃ (who) οὐκ (not) ἐμόλυναν (have soiled) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) περιπατήσουσιν (they will walk) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐν (in) λευκοῖς (white), ὅτι (because) ἄξιοί (worthy) εἰσιν (they are). ⁵ Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming), οὕτως (thus) περιβαλεῖται (will be clothed) ἐν (in) ἱματίοις (garments) λευκοῖς (white). καὶ (And) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐξαλείψω (will I blot out) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) βίβλου (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life), καὶ (and) ὁμολογήσω (I will confess) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ⁶ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). ⁷ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to) ἀγγέλῳ (the messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Φιλαδελφείᾳ (Philadelphia) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the) ἅγιος (Holy One), ὁ (the) ἀληθινός (True One), ὁ (-) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) κλεῖν (key) Δαυίδ (of David), ὁ (the One) ἀνοίγων (opening) καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (no one) κλείσει (will shut), καὶ (and) κλείων (shutting) καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἀνοίγει (opens). ⁸ Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὰ (-) ἔργα (deeds). ἰδοὺ (Behold), δέδωκα (I have set) ἐνώπιόν (before) σου (you) θύραν (a door) ἠνεῳγμένην (having been opened), ἣν (which) οὐδεὶς (no one) δύναται (is able) κλεῖσαι (to shut) αὐτήν (it), ὅτι (because) μικρὰν (little) ἔχεις (you have) δύναμιν (power), καὶ (and yet) ἐτήρησάς (you have kept) μου (My) τὸν (-) λόγον (word) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠρνήσω (have denied) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me). ⁹ ἰδοὺ (Behold), διδῶ (I give) ἐκ (those from) τῆς (the) συναγωγῆς (synagogue) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan)— τῶν (those) λεγόντων (declaring) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) Ἰουδαίους (Jews) εἶναι (to be), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (are), ἀλλὰ (but) ψεύδονται (they lie)— ἰδοὺ (behold), ποιήσω (I will cause) αὐτοὺς (them) ἵνα (that) ἥξουσιν (they will come) καὶ (and) προσκυνήσουσιν (will worship) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) ποδῶν (feet) σου (of you), καὶ (and) γνῶσιν (they shall know) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) ἠγάπησά (have loved) σε (you). ¹⁰ Ὅτι (Because) ἐτήρησας (you have kept) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τῆς (of the) ὑπομονῆς (patient endurance) μου (of Me), κἀγώ (I also) σε (you) τηρήσω (will keep) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour) τοῦ (of the) πειρασμοῦ (trial) τῆς (-) μελλούσης (being about) ἔρχεσθαι (to come) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) οἰκουμένης (inhabited world) ὅλης (whole), πειράσαι (to try) τοὺς (those) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth). ¹¹ ἔρχομαι (I am coming) ταχύ (quickly). κράτει (Hold fast) ὃ (to what) ἔχεις (you have), ἵνα (so that) μηδεὶς (no one) λάβῃ (may take) τὸν (the) στέφανόν (crown) σου (of you). ¹² Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming), ποιήσω (I will make) αὐτὸν (him) στῦλον (a pillar) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ναῷ (temple) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἔξω (out) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐξέλθῃ (shall he go) ἔτι (anymore). καὶ (And) γράψω (I will write) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτὸν (him) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) τὸ ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) Θεοῦ (God) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me) τὸ (-) καινόν (new). ¹³ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) τῷ (to the) ἀγγέλῳ (messenger) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) Λαοδικείᾳ (Laodicea) ἐκκλησίας (church) γράψον (write): Τάδε (These things) λέγει (says) ὁ (the) Ἀμήν (Amen), ὁ (the) μάρτυς (Witness) ὁ (-) πιστὸς (faithful) καὶ (and) ἀληθινός (true), ἡ (the) ἀρχὴ (Beginning) τῆς (of the) κτίσεως (creation) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ¹⁵ Οἶδά (I know) σου (your) τὰ (-) ἔργα (works), ὅτι (that) οὔτε (neither) ψυχρὸς (cold) εἶ (you are) οὔτε (nor) ζεστός (hot). ὄφελον (I wish) ψυχρὸς (cold) ἦς (you would be) ἢ (or) ζεστός (hot). ¹⁶ οὕτως (So) ὅτι (because) χλιαρὸς (lukewarm) εἶ (you are), καὶ (and) οὔτε (neither) ζεστὸς (hot) οὔτε (nor) ψυχρός (cold), μέλλω (I am about) σε (you) ἐμέσαι (to spit) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματός (mouth) μου (of Me). ¹⁷ Ὅτι (For) λέγεις (you say) ὅτι (-), ‘Πλούσιός (Rich) εἰμι (I am), καὶ (and) πεπλούτηκα (I have grown rich), καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (of nothing) χρείαν (need) ἔχω (I have).’ καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) οἶδας (do you realize) ὅτι (that) σὺ (you) εἶ (are) ὁ (-) ταλαίπωρος (wretched), καὶ (and) ἐλεεινὸς (miserable), καὶ (and) πτωχὸς (poor), καὶ (and) τυφλὸς (blind), καὶ (and) γυμνός (naked). ¹⁸ συμβουλεύω (I counsel) σοι (you) ἀγοράσαι (to buy) παρ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me) χρυσίον (gold) πεπυρωμένον (having been refined) ἐκ (by) πυρὸς (fire) ἵνα (so that) πλουτήσῃς (you may be rich), καὶ (and) ἱμάτια (garments) λευκὰ (white) ἵνα (so that) περιβάλῃ (you may be clothed) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) φανερωθῇ (might be made manifest) ἡ (the) αἰσχύνη (shame) τῆς (of the) γυμνότητός (nakedness) σου (of you), καὶ (and) κολλούριον (eye-salve) ἐγχρῖσαι (to anoint) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμούς (eyes) σου (of you) ἵνα (so that) βλέπῃς (you may see). ¹⁹ ἐγὼ (I) ὅσους (as many as) ἐὰν (if) φιλῶ (might love), ἐλέγχω (I rebuke) καὶ (and) παιδεύω (discipline); ζήλευε (be zealous) οὖν (therefore) καὶ (and) μετανόησον (repent). ²⁰ Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἕστηκα (I stand) ἐπὶ (at) τὴν (the) θύραν (door) καὶ (and) κρούω (knock). ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) ἀκούσῃ (should hear) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) ἀνοίξῃ (open) τὴν (the) θύραν (door), ‹καὶ› (then) εἰσελεύσομαι (I will come in) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him), καὶ (and) δειπνήσω (will dine) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (he) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me). ²¹ Ὁ (The one) νικῶν (overcoming), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) καθίσαι (to sit) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne) μου (of Me), ὡς (as) κἀγὼ (I also) ἐνίκησα (overcame) καὶ (and) ἐκάθισα (sat down) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ²² Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches).”

¹ Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), θύρα (a door) ἠνεῳγμένη (was standing open) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φωνὴ (voice) ἡ (-) πρώτη (first) ἣν (that) ἤκουσα (I heard) ὡς (like) σάλπιγγος (a trumpet) λαλούσης (was speaking) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me), λέγων (saying), “Ἀνάβα (Come up) ὧδε (here), καὶ (and) δείξω (I will show) σοι (to you) ἃ (what) δεῖ (it behooves) γενέσθαι (to take place) μετὰ (after) ταῦτα (these things).” ² εὐθέως (Immediately) ἐγενόμην (I was) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), θρόνος (a throne) ἔκειτο (was set) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸν (the) θρόνον (throne) καθήμενος (One sitting), ³ καὶ (and) ὁ (the One) καθήμενος (sitting) ὅμοιος (was like) ὁράσει (in appearance) λίθῳ (stone), ἰάσπιδι (jasper) καὶ (and) σαρδίῳ (sardius). καὶ (And) ἶρις (a rainbow) κυκλόθεν (was around) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), ὅμοιος (like) ὁράσει (in appearance) σμαραγδίνῳ (an emerald). ⁴ καὶ (And) κυκλόθεν (around) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), θρόνους (thrones) εἴκοσι (were twenty) τέσσαρες (four); καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) τοὺς (the) θρόνους (thrones) εἴκοσι (twenty) τέσσαρας (four) πρεσβυτέρους (elders) καθημένους (sitting), περιβεβλημένους (having been clothed) ἐν (in) ἱματίοις (garments) λευκοῖς (white); καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) τὰς (the) κεφαλὰς (heads) αὐτῶν (of them), στεφάνους (crowns) χρυσοῦς (golden). ⁵ Καὶ (And) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) ἐκπορεύονται (come) ἀστραπαὶ (flashes of lightning), καὶ (and) φωναὶ (voices), καὶ (and) βρονταί (thunderings). καὶ (And) ἑπτὰ (there were seven) λαμπάδες (lamps) πυρὸς (of fire) καιόμεναι (burning) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), ἅ (which) εἰσιν (are) τὰ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) Πνεύματα (Spirits) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ⁶ καὶ (And) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) ὡς (was something like) θάλασσα (a sea) ὑαλίνη (of glass), ὁμοία (like) κρυστάλλῳ (crystal). καὶ (And) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τοῦ (of the) θρόνου (throne) καὶ (and) κύκλῳ (around) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) τέσσαρα (were four) ζῷα (living creatures), γέμοντα (being full) ὀφθαλμῶν (of eyes) ἔμπροσθεν (in front) καὶ (and) ὄπισθεν (behind). ⁷ καὶ (And) τὸ (the) ζῷον (living creature) τὸ (-) πρῶτον (first) ὅμοιον (was like) λέοντι (a lion), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) δεύτερον (second) ζῷον (living creature) ὅμοιον (like) μόσχῳ (a calf), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) τρίτον (third) ζῷον (living creature) ἔχων (having) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) ὡς (as) ἀνθρώπου (of a man), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) τέταρτον (fourth) ζῷον (living creature) ὅμοιον (like) ἀετῷ (an eagle) πετομένῳ (flying). ⁸ καὶ (And) τὰ (the) τέσσαρα (four) ζῷα (living creatures), ἓν (one) καθ’ (for) ἓν (one) αὐτῶν (of them) ἔχων (had) ἀνὰ (respectively) πτέρυγας (wings) ἕξ (six), κυκλόθεν (all around) καὶ (and) ἔσωθεν (within) γέμουσιν (full) ὀφθαλμῶν (of eyes); καὶ (and) ἀνάπαυσιν (rest) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (they have) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτὸς (night), λέγοντες (saying): “Ἅγιος (Holy), ἅγιος (Holy), ἅγιος (Holy), Κύριος (Lord) ὁ (-) Θεός (God) ὁ (-) Παντοκράτωρ (Almighty), ὁ (the One) ἦν (having been), καὶ (and) ὁ (the One) ὢν (being), καὶ (and) ὁ (the One) ἐρχόμενος (coming).” ⁹ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (whenever) δώσουσιν (will give) τὰ (the) ζῷα (living creatures) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) τιμὴν (honor) καὶ (and) εὐχαριστίαν (thanksgiving) τῷ (to the One) καθημένῳ (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) τῷ (the) θρόνῳ (throne), τῷ (the One) ζῶντι (living) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), ¹⁰ πεσοῦνται (will fall) οἱ (the) εἴκοσι (twenty) τέσσαρες (four) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the One) καθημένου (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) προσκυνήσουσιν (they will worship) τῷ (the One) ζῶντι (living) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) βαλοῦσιν (they will cast) τοὺς (the) στεφάνους (crowns) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), λέγοντες (saying): ¹¹ “Ἄξιος (Worthy) εἶ (are You), ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἡμῶν (of us), λαβεῖν (to receive) τὴν (-) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) τιμὴν (honor) καὶ (and) τὴν (-) δύναμιν (power); ὅτι (for) σὺ (You) ἔκτισας (created) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) θέλημά (will) σου (of You) ἦσαν (they existed), καὶ (and) ἐκτίσθησαν (were created).”

⁵ Ἑαυτοὺς (Yourselves) πειράζετε (examine) εἰ (whether) ἐστὲ (you are) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith); ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) δοκιμάζετε (test). ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) ἐπιγινώσκετε (do you recognize) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ is) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), εἰ (if) μήτι (not) ἀδόκιμοί (unapproved) ἐστε (you are)?

⁹ ἐὰν (If) ὁμολογῶμεν (we should confess) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) ἡμῶν (of us), πιστός (faithful) ἐστιν (He is) καὶ (and) δίκαιος (just), ἵνα (that) ἀφῇ (He may forgive) ἡμῖν (us) τὰς (our) ἁμαρτίας (sins), καὶ (and) καθαρίσῃ (might cleanse) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπὸ (from) πάσης (all) ἀδικίας (unrighteousness).

⁴ Ἀδύνατον (It is impossible) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (to those) ἅπαξ (once) φωτισθέντας (having been enlightened), γευσαμένους (having tasted) τε (then) τῆς (of the) δωρεᾶς (gift) τῆς (-) ἐπουρανίου (heavenly), καὶ (and) μετόχους (partakers) γενηθέντας (having become) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁵ καὶ (and) καλὸν (the goodness) γευσαμένους (having tasted) Θεοῦ (of God’s) ῥῆμα (word), δυνάμεις (the power) τε (also) μέλλοντος (of the coming) αἰῶνος (age) — ⁶ καὶ (and then) παραπεσόντας (having fallen away) — πάλιν (again) ἀνακαινίζειν (to restore them) εἰς (to) μετάνοιαν (repentance), ἀνασταυροῦντας (crucifying) ἑαυτοῖς (in themselves) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) παραδειγματίζοντας (subjecting Him to open shame).
