² Καὶ (And) προσκαλεσάμενος (having called to Him) παιδίον (a child), ἔστησεν (He set) αὐτὸ (it) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῶν (of them), ³ καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) στραφῆτε (you turn) καὶ (and) γένησθε (become) ὡς (as) τὰ (the) παιδία (little children), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθητε (shall you enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ⁴ ὅστις (Whoever) οὖν (therefore) ταπεινώσει (will humble) ἑαυτὸν (himself) ὡς (as) τὸ (the) παιδίον (little child) τοῦτο (this), οὗτός (he) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) μείζων (greatest) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens). ⁵ καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἐὰν (if) δέξηται (shall receive) ἓν (one) παιδίον (little child) τοιοῦτο (such) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), ἐμὲ (Me) δέχεται (receives).

¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντων (they having come) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd), προσῆλθεν (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἄνθρωπος (a man) γονυπετῶν (kneeling down to) αὐτὸν (Him) ¹⁵ καὶ (and) λέγων (saying), “Κύριε (Lord), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) μου (my) τὸν (-) υἱόν (son), ὅτι (for) σεληνιάζεται (he is epileptic) καὶ (and) κακῶς (miserably) πάσχει* (suffers); πολλάκις (often) γὰρ (for) πίπτει (he falls) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire), καὶ (and) πολλάκις (often) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water). ¹⁶ καὶ (And) προσήνεγκα (I brought) αὐτὸν (him) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) σου (of You), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἠδυνήθησαν (they were able) αὐτὸν (him) θεραπεῦσαι (to heal).” ¹⁷ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Ὦ (O) γενεὰ (generation) ἄπιστος (unbelieving) καὶ (and) διεστραμμένη (perverted), ἕως (how long) πότε (when) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) ἔσομαι (will I be)? ἕως (How long) πότε (when) ἀνέξομαι (will I bear with) ὑμῶν (you)? φέρετέ (Bring) μοι (to Me) αὐτὸν (him) ὧδε (here).” ¹⁸ καὶ (And) ἐπετίμησεν (rebuked) αὐτῷ (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἐξῆλθεν (went out) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (him) τὸ (the) δαιμόνιον (demon), καὶ (and) ἐθεραπεύθη (was healed) ὁ (the) παῖς (boy) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour) ἐκείνης (that).

¹⁷ Καὶ (And) ἀπεκρίθη (answered) αὐτῷ (Him) εἷς (one) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) ὄχλου (crowd), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), ἤνεγκα (I brought) τὸν (the) υἱόν (son) μου (of me) πρὸς (to) σέ (You), ἔχοντα (having) πνεῦμα (a spirit) ἄλαλον (mute); ¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὅπου (whenever) ἐὰν (if) αὐτὸν (him) καταλάβῃ (it seizes), ῥήσσει (it throws down) αὐτόν (him); καὶ (and) ἀφρίζει (he foams), καὶ (and) τρίζει (gnashes) τοὺς (-) ὀδόντας (his teeth), καὶ (and) ξηραίνεται (is withering away). καὶ (And) εἶπα (I spoke) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) σου (of You), ἵνα (that) αὐτὸ (it) ἐκβάλωσιν (they might cast out), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἴσχυσαν (they had power).” ¹⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτοῖς (him), λέγει (He says), “Ὦ (O) γενεὰ (generation) ἄπιστος (unbelieving)! ἕως (Until) πότε (when) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you) ἔσομαι (will I be)? ἕως (Until) πότε (when) ἀνέξομαι (will I bear with) ὑμῶν (you)? φέρετε (Bring) αὐτὸν (him) πρός (to) με (Me).” ²⁰ Καὶ (And) ἤνεγκαν (they brought) αὐτὸν (him) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him). καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him), τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) εὐθὺς (immediately) συνεσπάραξεν (threw into convulsions) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (ground), ἐκυλίετο (he began rolling around), ἀφρίζων (foaming). ²¹ Καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτησεν (He asked) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) αὐτοῦ (of him), “Πόσος (How long) χρόνος (a time) ἐστὶν (is it) ὡς (that) τοῦτο (this) γέγονεν (has been) αὐτῷ (with him)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), “Ἐκ (From) παιδιόθεν (childhood). ²² καὶ (And) πολλάκις (often) καὶ (both) εἰς (into) πῦρ (fire) αὐτὸν (him) ἔβαλεν (it casts), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ὕδατα (waters), ἵνα (that) ἀπολέσῃ (it might destroy) αὐτόν (him). ἀλλ’ (But) εἴ (if) τι (anything) δύνῃ (You are able to do), βοήθησον (help) ἡμῖν (us), σπλαγχνισθεὶς (having compassion) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us).” ²³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Τὸ (-) Εἰ (If) δύνῃ (You are able)? πάντα (All things) δυνατὰ (are possible) τῷ (to the one) πιστεύοντι (believing).” ²⁴ Εὐθὺς (Immediately) κράξας (having cried out), ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) τοῦ (of the) παιδίου (child) ἔλεγεν (was saying), “Πιστεύω (I believe); βοήθει (help) μου (of me) τῇ (the) ἀπιστίᾳ (unbelief)!” ²⁵ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὅτι (that) ἐπισυντρέχει (was running together) ὄχλος (a crowd), ἐπετίμησεν (He rebuked) τῷ (the) πνεύματι (spirit) τῷ (-) ἀκαθάρτῳ (unclean), λέγων (saying) αὐτῷ (to it), “Τὸ (-) ἄλαλον (Mute) καὶ (and) κωφὸν (deaf) πνεῦμα (spirit), ἐγὼ (I) ἐπιτάσσω (command) σοι (you), ἔξελθε (come) ἐξ (out of) αὐτοῦ (him), καὶ (and) μηκέτι (no more) εἰσέλθῃς (may you enter) εἰς (into) αὐτόν (him).” ²⁶ Καὶ (And) κράξας (having cried out), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (much) σπαράξας (having thrown him into convulsions), ἐξῆλθεν (it came out); καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (he became) ὡσεὶ (as if) νεκρὸς (dead), ὥστε (in order for) τοὺς (-) πολλοὺς (many) λέγειν (to say) ὅτι (that) ἀπέθανεν (he was dead). ²⁷ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), κρατήσας (having taken) τῆς (by the) χειρὸς (hand) αὐτοῦ (him), ἤγειρεν (raised up) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) ἀνέστη (he arose). ²⁸ Καὶ (And) εἰσελθόντος (having entered) αὐτοῦ (He) εἰς (into) οἶκον (a house), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private) ἐπηρώτων (were asking) αὐτόν (Him), “Ὅτι (Why) ἡμεῖς (we) οὐκ (not) ἠδυνήθημεν (were able) ἐκβαλεῖν (to cast out) αὐτό (it)?” ²⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τοῦτο (This) τὸ (-) γένος (kind) ἐν (by) οὐδενὶ (nothing) δύναται (is able) ἐξελθεῖν (to go out), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἐν (by) προσευχῇ (prayer).”

¹⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτοῖς (him), λέγει (He says), “Ὦ (O) γενεὰ (generation) ἄπιστος (unbelieving)! ἕως (Until) πότε (when) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you) ἔσομαι (will I be)? ἕως (Until) πότε (when) ἀνέξομαι (will I bear with) ὑμῶν (you)? φέρετε (Bring) αὐτὸν (him) πρός (to) με (Me).” ²⁰ Καὶ (And) ἤνεγκαν (they brought) αὐτὸν (him) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him). καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὸν (Him), τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) εὐθὺς (immediately) συνεσπάραξεν (threw into convulsions) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (ground), ἐκυλίετο (he began rolling around), ἀφρίζων (foaming). ²¹ Καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτησεν (He asked) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) αὐτοῦ (of him), “Πόσος (How long) χρόνος (a time) ἐστὶν (is it) ὡς (that) τοῦτο (this) γέγονεν (has been) αὐτῷ (with him)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), “Ἐκ (From) παιδιόθεν (childhood). ²² καὶ (And) πολλάκις (often) καὶ (both) εἰς (into) πῦρ (fire) αὐτὸν (him) ἔβαλεν (it casts), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ὕδατα (waters), ἵνα (that) ἀπολέσῃ (it might destroy) αὐτόν (him). ἀλλ’ (But) εἴ (if) τι (anything) δύνῃ (You are able to do), βοήθησον (help) ἡμῖν (us), σπλαγχνισθεὶς (having compassion) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us).” ²³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Τὸ (-) Εἰ (If) δύνῃ (You are able)? πάντα (All things) δυνατὰ (are possible) τῷ (to the one) πιστεύοντι (believing).” ²⁴ Εὐθὺς (Immediately) κράξας (having cried out), ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) τοῦ (of the) παιδίου (child) ἔλεγεν (was saying), “Πιστεύω (I believe); βοήθει (help) μου (of me) τῇ (the) ἀπιστίᾳ (unbelief)!” ²⁵ Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὅτι (that) ἐπισυντρέχει (was running together) ὄχλος (a crowd), ἐπετίμησεν (He rebuked) τῷ (the) πνεύματι (spirit) τῷ (-) ἀκαθάρτῳ (unclean), λέγων (saying) αὐτῷ (to it), “Τὸ (-) ἄλαλον (Mute) καὶ (and) κωφὸν (deaf) πνεῦμα (spirit), ἐγὼ (I) ἐπιτάσσω (command) σοι (you), ἔξελθε (come) ἐξ (out of) αὐτοῦ (him), καὶ (and) μηκέτι (no more) εἰσέλθῃς (may you enter) εἰς (into) αὐτόν (him).” ²⁶ Καὶ (And) κράξας (having cried out), καὶ (and) πολλὰ (much) σπαράξας (having thrown him into convulsions), ἐξῆλθεν (it came out); καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (he became) ὡσεὶ (as if) νεκρὸς (dead), ὥστε (in order for) τοὺς (-) πολλοὺς (many) λέγειν (to say) ὅτι (that) ἀπέθανεν (he was dead). ²⁷ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), κρατήσας (having taken) τῆς (by the) χειρὸς (hand) αὐτοῦ (him), ἤγειρεν (raised up) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) ἀνέστη (he arose). ²⁸ Καὶ (And) εἰσελθόντος (having entered) αὐτοῦ (He) εἰς (into) οἶκον (a house), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) κατ’ (in) ἰδίαν (private) ἐπηρώτων (were asking) αὐτόν (Him), “Ὅτι (Why) ἡμεῖς (we) οὐκ (not) ἠδυνήθημεν (were able) ἐκβαλεῖν (to cast out) αὐτό (it)?” ²⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τοῦτο (This) τὸ (-) γένος (kind) ἐν (by) οὐδενὶ (nothing) δύναται (is able) ἐξελθεῖν (to go out), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἐν (by) προσευχῇ (prayer).” ³⁰ Κἀκεῖθεν (From there) ἐξελθόντες (having gone forth), παρεπορεύοντο (they were passing) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἤθελεν (did He want) ἵνα (that) τις (anyone) γνοῖ (should know it); ³¹ ἐδίδασκεν (He was teaching) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὅτι (-), “Ὁ (The) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) παραδίδοται (is delivered) εἰς (into the) χεῖρας (hands) ἀνθρώπων (of men), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) ἀποκτανθεὶς (having been killed), μετὰ (on the) τρεῖς (third) ἡμέρας (day) ἀναστήσεται (He will arise).” ³² οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἠγνόουν (they did not understand) τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (saying), καὶ (and) ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐπερωτῆσαι (to ask). ³³ Καὶ (And) ἦλθον (they came) εἰς (to) Καφαρναούμ (Capernaum). Καὶ (And) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house) γενόμενος (having been), ἐπηρώτα (He was asking) αὐτούς (them), “Τί (What) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (way) διελογίζεσθε (were you discussing)?” ³⁴ οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἐσιώπων (they were silent), πρὸς (with) ἀλλήλους (one another) γὰρ (for) διελέχθησαν (they had been discussing) ἐν (along) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (road) τίς (which was) μείζων (greatest). ³⁵ Καὶ (And) καθίσας (having sat down), ἐφώνησεν (He called) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) θέλει (desires) πρῶτος (first) εἶναι (to be), ἔσται (he will be) πάντων (of all) ἔσχατος (last) καὶ (and) πάντων (of all) διάκονος (servant).” ³⁶ Καὶ (And) λαβὼν (having taken) παιδίον (a child), ἔστησεν (He set) αὐτὸ (it) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῶν (of them); καὶ (and) ἐναγκαλισάμενος (having taken in His arms) αὐτὸ (it), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), ³⁷ “Ὃς (Whoever) ἂν (-) ἓν (one) τῶν (-) τοιούτων (of such) παιδίων (little children) δέξηται (shall receive) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), ἐμὲ (Me) δέχεται (receives); καὶ (and) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) ἐμὲ (Me) δέχηται (shall receive), οὐκ (not) ἐμὲ (Me) δέχεται (receives), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸν (the One) ἀποστείλαντά (having sent) με (Me).” ³⁸ Ἔφη (Answered) αὐτῷ (Him) ὁ (-) Ἰωάννης (John), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), εἴδομέν (we saw) τινα (someone) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) σου (of You) ἐκβάλλοντα (casting out) δαιμόνια (demons), 〈ὃς (who) οὐκ (not) ἀκολουθεῖ (does follow) ἡμῖν〉 (us), καὶ (and) ἐκωλύομεν (we were forbidding) αὐτόν (him), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἠκολούθει (he was following) ἡμῖν (us).” ³⁹ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Μὴ (Not) κωλύετε (forbid) αὐτόν (him). οὐδεὶς (No one) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (there is) ὃς (who) ποιήσει (will do) δύναμιν (a work of power) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) δυνήσεται (will be able) ταχὺ (readily) κακολογῆσαί (to speak evil of) με (Me). ⁴⁰ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) καθ’ (against) ἡμῶν (us), ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us) ἐστιν (is). ⁴¹ Ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ποτίσῃ (might give to drink) ὑμᾶς (you) ποτήριον (a cup) ὕδατος (of water), ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (name) ὅτι (because) Χριστοῦ (Christ’s) ἐστε (you are), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅτι (that) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀπολέσῃ (shall he lose) τὸν (the) μισθὸν (reward) αὐτοῦ (of him). ⁴² Καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) σκανδαλίσῃ (might cause to stumble) ἕνα (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (these) τῶν (-) πιστευόντων (believing) ‹εἰς (in) ἐμέ› (Me), καλόν (better) ἐστιν (it is) αὐτῷ (for him) μᾶλλον (rather) εἰ (if) περίκειται (is put) μύλος (a millstone) ὀνικὸς (heavy) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) βέβληται (he has been cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). ⁴³ Καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) σκανδαλίζῃ* (should cause to stumble) σε (you) ἡ (the) χείρ (hand) σου (of you), ἀπόκοψον (cut off) αὐτήν (it); καλόν (better) ἐστίν (it is) σε (for you) κυλλὸν (crippled) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωὴν (life), ἢ (than) τὰς (-) δύο (two) χεῖρας (hands) ἔχοντα (having), ἀπελθεῖν (to go away) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) γέενναν (hell), εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) τὸ (-) ἄσβεστον (unquenchable). ^{44 45} καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ὁ (the) πούς (foot) σου (of you) σκανδαλίζῃ (should cause to stumble) σε (you), ἀπόκοψον (cut off) αὐτόν (it); καλόν (better) ἐστίν (it is) σε (for you) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωὴν (life) χωλὸν (lame), ἢ (than) τοὺς (the) δύο (two) πόδας (feet) ἔχοντα (having), βληθῆναι (to be cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) γέενναν (hell). ^{46 47} καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) ὁ (the) ὀφθαλμός (eye) σου (of you) σκανδαλίζῃ (should cause to stumble) σε (you), ἔκβαλε (cast out) αὐτόν (it); καλόν (better) σέ (for you) ἐστιν (it is) μονόφθαλμον (with one eye) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἢ (than) δύο (two) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἔχοντα (having) βληθῆναι (to be cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) γέενναν (hell), ⁴⁸ ὅπου (where) ‘Ὁ (the) σκώληξ (worm) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐ (not) τελευτᾷ (dies), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) οὐ (not) σβέννυται (is quenched).’ ⁴⁹ Πᾶς (Everyone) γὰρ (for) πυρὶ (with fire) ἁλισθήσεται (will be salted). ⁵⁰ καλὸν (Good is) τὸ (the) ἅλας (salt); ἐὰν (if) δὲ (however) τὸ (the) ἅλας (salt) ἄναλον (unsalty) γένηται (becomes), ἐν (with) τίνι (what) αὐτὸ (it) ἀρτύσετε (will you season)? ἔχετε (Have) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (yourselves) ἅλα (salt), καὶ (and) εἰρηνεύετε (be at peace) ἐν (with) ἀλλήλοις (one another).”

⁴⁷ Καὶ (And) ἐάν (if) τίς (anyone) μου (of Me) ἀκούσῃ (hears) τῶν (the) ῥημάτων (words) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) φυλάξῃ (keeps them), ἐγὼ (I) οὐ (not) κρίνω (do judge) αὐτόν (him), οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) ἦλθον (I came) ἵνα (that) κρίνω (I might judge) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) σώσω (I might save) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).

¹⁸ Οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (nothing) οἰκεῖ (there dwells) ἐν (in) ἐμοί (me), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σαρκί (flesh) μου (of me), ἀγαθόν (good); τὸ (-) γὰρ (for) θέλειν (to will) παράκειταί (is present with) μοι (me), τὸ (-) δὲ (but) κατεργάζεσθαι (to do) τὸ (the) καλὸν (good), οὔ (not).

⁹ καὶ (And) εἴρηκέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Ἀρκεῖ (Suffices) σοι (you) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) μου (of Me); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δύναμις (power) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) τελεῖται (is perfected).” Ἥδιστα (Most gladly) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (rather) καυχήσομαι (will I boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses) ‹μου› (of me), ἵνα (so that) ἐπισκηνώσῃ (may rest) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ). ¹⁰ διὸ (Therefore) εὐδοκῶ (I take pleasure) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses), ἐν (in) ὕβρεσιν (insults), ἐν (in) ἀνάγκαις (hardships), ἐν (in) διωγμοῖς (persecutions), καὶ (and) στενοχωρίαις (difficulties) ὑπὲρ (for) Χριστοῦ (Christ); ὅταν (when) γὰρ (for) ἀσθενῶ (I might be weak), τότε (then) δυνατός (strong) εἰμι (I am).

² καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συσχηματίζεσθε (be conformed) τῷ (to the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταμορφοῦσθε (be transformed) τῇ (by the) ἀνακαινώσει (renewing) τοῦ (of the) νοός (mind), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) δοκιμάζειν (to prove) ὑμᾶς (by you), τί (what is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) καὶ (and) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) καὶ (and) τέλειον (perfect).

²⁶ Βλέπετε (Consider) γὰρ (for) τὴν (the) κλῆσιν (calling) ὑμῶν (of you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὅτι (that) οὐ (not) πολλοὶ (many) σοφοὶ (wise) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh were), οὐ (not) πολλοὶ (many) δυνατοί (powerful), οὐ (not) πολλοὶ (many) εὐγενεῖς (of noble birth). ²⁷ ἀλλὰ (But) τὰ (the) μωρὰ (foolish things) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐξελέξατο (has chosen) ὁ (-) Θεός (God) ἵνα (that) καταισχύνῃ (He might shame) τοὺς (the) σοφούς (wise); καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἀσθενῆ (weak things) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐξελέξατο (chose) ὁ (-) Θεός (God) ἵνα (that) καταισχύνῃ (He might shame) τὰ (the) ἰσχυρά (strong); ²⁸ καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἀγενῆ (low-born) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), καὶ (and) τὰ (the things) ἐξουθενημένα (being despised), ἐξελέξατο (chose) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), (καὶ) (and) τὰ (the things) μὴ (not) ὄντα (being), ἵνα (that) τὰ (the things) ὄντα (being) καταργήσῃ (He might annul), ²⁹ ὅπως (so that) μὴ (not) καυχήσηται (might boast) πᾶσα (all) σὰρξ (flesh) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

¹⁸ Νυνὶ* (Now) δὲ (however), ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἔθετο (has arranged) τὰ (the) μέλη (members), ἓν (one) ἕκαστον (each) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματι (body), καθὼς (as) ἠθέλησεν (He desired).

¹ Καὶ (And) παράγων (passing by), εἶδεν (He saw) ἄνθρωπον (a man) τυφλὸν (blind) ἐκ (from) γενετῆς (birth). ² καὶ (And) ἠρώτησαν (asked) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λέγοντες (saying), “Ῥαββί (Rabbi), τίς (who) ἥμαρτεν (sinned), οὗτος (this man) ἢ (or) οἱ (the) γονεῖς (parents) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἵνα (that) τυφλὸς (blind) γεννηθῇ (he should be born)?” ³ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὔτε (Neither) οὗτος (this man) ἥμαρτεν (sinned), οὔτε (nor) οἱ (the) γονεῖς (parents) αὐτοῦ (of him); ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (it was that) φανερωθῇ (should be displayed) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him).
