¹⁰ Ὁρᾶτε (See that) μὴ (not) καταφρονήσητε (you despise) ἑνὸς (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these). λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens) διὰ (continually) παντὸς (always) βλέπουσι (behold) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of me), τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens).

⁸ Νήψατε (Be sober-minded); γρηγορήσατε (watch). ὁ (The) ἀντίδικος (adversary) ὑμῶν (of You), διάβολος (the devil), ὡς (as) λέων (a lion) ὠρυόμενος (roaring) περιπατεῖ (prowls about), ζητῶν (seeking) τινα (whom) καταπιεῖν (to devour),

⁴ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἁμαρτησάντων (having sinned), οὐκ (not) ἐφείσατο (spared), ἀλλὰ (but) σειραῖς* (in chains) ζόφου (of gloomy darkness) ταρταρώσας (having cast them down to Tartarus), παρέδωκεν (delivered them), εἰς (for) κρίσιν (judgment) τηρουμένους (being kept);

¹³ Οὐ (Not) θέλομεν (we do want) δὲ (but) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀγνοεῖν (to be ignorant), ἀδελφοί (brothers), περὶ (concerning) τῶν (those) κοιμωμένων (having fallen asleep), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) λυπῆσθε (you should be grieved), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest), οἱ (those) μὴ (not) ἔχοντες (having) ἐλπίδα (hope). ¹⁴ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) πιστεύομεν (we believe) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀπέθανεν (died) καὶ (and) ἀνέστη (rose again), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), τοὺς (those) κοιμηθέντας (having fallen asleep) διὰ (through) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ἄξει (will bring) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him). ¹⁵ Τοῦτο (This) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγομεν (we declare) ἐν (in) λόγῳ (the word) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (the) ζῶντες (living) οἱ (-) περιλειπόμενοι (remaining), εἰς (unto) τὴν (the) παρουσίαν (coming) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) φθάσωμεν (shall precede) τοὺς (those) κοιμηθέντας (having fallen asleep), ¹⁶ ὅτι (because) αὐτὸς (Himself) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐν (with) κελεύσματι (a loud command), ἐν (with) φωνῇ (the voice) ἀρχαγγέλου (of an archangel), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) σάλπιγγι (the trumpet) Θεοῦ (of God), καταβήσεται (will descend) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἀναστήσονται (will rise) πρῶτον (first). ¹⁷ ἔπειτα (Then) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (the) ζῶντες (living) οἱ (-) περιλειπόμενοι (remaining), ἅμα (together) σὺν (with) αὐτοῖς (them), ἁρπαγησόμεθα (will be caught away) ἐν (in) νεφέλαις (the clouds) εἰς (for) ἀπάντησιν (the meeting) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) εἰς (in) ἀέρα (the air); καὶ (and) οὕτως (so) πάντοτε (always) σὺν (with) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) ἐσόμεθα (we will be). ¹⁸ Ὥστε (Therefore) παρακαλεῖτε (encourage) ἀλλήλους (one another) ἐν (with) τοῖς (the) λόγοις (words) τούτοις (these).

¹⁰ Τοῦ (-) λοιποῦ (Henceforth) ἐνδυναμοῦσθε (be empowered) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κράτει (strength) τῆς (of the) ἰσχύος (might) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ¹¹ ἐνδύσασθε (Put on) τὴν (the) πανοπλίαν (complete armor) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), πρὸς (for) τὸ (-) δύνασθαι (to be able) ὑμᾶς (you) στῆναι (to stand) πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) μεθοδείας (schemes) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil), ¹² ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἡμῖν (to us) ἡ (the) πάλη (wrestling) πρὸς (against) αἷμα (blood) καὶ (and) σάρκα (flesh), ἀλλὰ (but) πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) ἀρχάς (rulers), πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) ἐξουσίας (authorities), πρὸς (against) τοὺς (the) κοσμοκράτορας (cosmic powers) τοῦ (of the) σκότους (darkness) τούτου (this), πρὸς (against) τὰ (the) πνευματικὰ (spiritual forces) τῆς (-) πονηρίας (of evil) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms). ¹³ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ἀναλάβετε (take up) τὴν (the) πανοπλίαν (complete armor) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (so that) δυνηθῆτε (you may be able) ἀντιστῆναι (to withstand) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (-) πονηρᾷ (evil), καὶ (and) ἅπαντα (all things) κατεργασάμενοι (having done), στῆναι (to stand). ¹⁴ στῆτε (Stand) οὖν (therefore), περιζωσάμενοι (having girded) τὴν (the) ὀσφὺν (loins) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (with) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), καὶ (and) ἐνδυσάμενοι (having put on) τὸν (the) θώρακα (breastplate) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), ¹⁵ καὶ (and) ὑποδησάμενοι (having shod) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) ἐν (with) ἑτοιμασίᾳ (the readiness) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (-) εἰρήνης (of peace); ¹⁶ ἐν (besides) πᾶσιν (all), ἀναλαβόντες (having taken up) τὸν (the) θυρεὸν (shield) τῆς (-) πίστεως (of faith), ἐν (with) ᾧ (which) δυνήσεσθε (you will be able) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) βέλη (arrows) τοῦ (of the) πονηροῦ (evil one) τὰ (-) πεπυρωμένα (flaming) σβέσαι (to quench). ¹⁷ καὶ (And) τὴν (the) περικεφαλαίαν (helmet) τοῦ (-) σωτηρίου (of salvation) δέξασθε (take), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μάχαιραν (sword) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ῥῆμα (the word) Θεοῦ (of God), ¹⁸ διὰ (through) πάσης (all) προσευχῆς (prayer) καὶ (and) δεήσεως (supplication), προσευχόμενοι (praying) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every) καιρῷ (season) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit), καὶ (and) εἰς (unto) αὐτὸ (this very thing), ἀγρυπνοῦντες (watching) ἐν (with) πάσῃ (all) προσκαρτερήσει (perseverance) καὶ (and) δεήσει (supplication) περὶ (for) πάντων (all) τῶν (-) ἁγίων (saints),

¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), μὴ (not) παντὶ (every) πνεύματι (spirit) πιστεύετε (believe), ἀλλὰ (but) δοκιμάζετε (test) τὰ (the) πνεύματα (spirits), εἰ (whether) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (they are), ὅτι (because) πολλοὶ (many) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets) ἐξεληλύθασιν (have gone out) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄγγελον (an angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (holding) τὴν (the) κλεῖν (key) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἅλυσιν (a chain) μεγάλην (great) ἐπὶ (in) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him). ² καὶ (And) ἐκράτησεν (he seized) τὸν (the) δράκοντα (dragon), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), καὶ (and) ἔδησεν (bound) αὐτὸν (him) χίλια (for a thousand) ἔτη (years). ³ καὶ (And) ἔβαλεν (he cast) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἔκλεισεν (shut) καὶ (and) ἐσφράγισεν (sealed it) ἐπάνω (over) αὐτοῦ (him), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) πλανήσῃ (he should deceive) ἔτι (any longer) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations), ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (were completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). μετὰ (After these) ταῦτα (things), δεῖ (it is necessary for) λυθῆναι (to be released) αὐτὸν (him) μικρὸν (for a little) χρόνον (time). ⁴ ‹Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνους (thrones), καὶ (and) ἐκάθισαν (they sat) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτούς (them), καὶ (and) κρίμα (judgment) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτοῖς (to them), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of those) πεπελεκισμένων (having been beheaded) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) οἵτινες (those who) οὐ (not) προσεκύνησαν (did worship) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), οὐδὲ (nor) τὴν (the) εἰκόνα (image) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔλαβον (did take) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτῶν (of them). καὶ (And) ἔζησαν (they lived) καὶ (and) ἐβασίλευσαν (reigned) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (-) χριστοῦ (Christ) χίλια (a thousand) ἔτη› (years). ⁵ Οἱ (The) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) νεκρῶν (dead) οὐκ (not) ἔζησαν (lived again) ἄχρι (until) τελεσθῇ (shall have been completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). αὕτη (This is) ἡ (the) ἀνάστασις (resurrection) ἡ (-) πρώτη (first). ⁶ μακάριος (Blessed) καὶ (and) ἅγιος (holy is) ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) μέρος (a part) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀναστάσει (resurrection) τῇ (-) πρώτῃ (first)! ἐπὶ (Over) τούτων (these) ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) θάνατος (death) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has) ἐξουσίαν (power), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔσονται (they will be) ἱερεῖς (priests) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσουσιν (will reign) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) τὰ (a) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) τελεσθῇ (shall have been completed) τὰ (the) χίλια (thousand) ἔτη (years), λυθήσεται (will be released) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) φυλακῆς (prison) αὐτοῦ (of him), ⁸ καὶ (and) ἐξελεύσεται (will go out) πλανῆσαι (to deceive) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) τὰ (-) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) τέσσαρσιν (four) γωνίαις (corners) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), τὸν (-) Γὼγ (Gog) καὶ (and) Μαγώγ (Magog), συναγαγεῖν (to gather together) αὐτοὺς (them) εἰς (unto) τὸν (the) πόλεμον (war), ὧν (of whom) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number is) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) ἡ (the) ἄμμος (sand) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea). ⁹ Καὶ (And) ἀνέβησαν (they marched up) ἐπὶ (over) τὸ (the) πλάτος (breadth) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) καὶ (and) ἐκύκλευσαν (encircled) τὴν (the) παρεμβολὴν (camp) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) τὴν (-) ἠγαπημένην (having been beloved). καὶ (But) κατέβη (came down) πῦρ (fire) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) κατέφαγεν (devoured) αὐτούς (them). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil), ὁ (the one) πλανῶν (deceiving) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire) καὶ (and) θείου (of sulfur), ὅπου (where are) καὶ (also) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσονται (they will be tormented) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτὸς (night) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) θρόνον (a throne) μέγαν (great) λευκὸν (white), καὶ (and) τὸν (the One) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (it), οὗ (whose) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) προσώπου (face) ἔφυγεν (fled) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) οὐρανός (heaven), καὶ (and) τόπος (place) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) αὐτοῖς (for them). ¹² καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) νεκρούς (dead), τοὺς (-) μεγάλους (great) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) μικρούς (small), ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) βιβλία (books) ἠνοίχθησαν (were opened). Καὶ (And) ἄλλο (another) βιβλίον (book) ἠνοίχθη (was opened), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) τῆς (the one) ζωῆς (of life). καὶ (And) ἐκρίθησαν (were judged) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the things) γεγραμμένων (having been written) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) βιβλίοις (books), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (deeds) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹³ καὶ (And) ἔδωκεν (gave up) ἡ (the) θάλασσα (sea) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it); καὶ (and) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἔδωκαν (gave up) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) τοὺς (who were) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them); καὶ (and) ἐκρίθησαν (they were judged) ἕκαστος (each of them) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) θάνατος (Death) καὶ (and) ὁ (-) ᾅδης (Hades) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire). οὗτος (This) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερός (second) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) λίμνη (lake) τοῦ (of) πυρός (fire). ¹⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) εὑρέθη (was found) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βίβλῳ (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) γεγραμμένος (having been written), ἐβλήθη (he was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρός (of fire).

¹⁶ ὅτι (because) αὐτὸς (Himself) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐν (with) κελεύσματι (a loud command), ἐν (with) φωνῇ (the voice) ἀρχαγγέλου (of an archangel), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) σάλπιγγι (the trumpet) Θεοῦ (of God), καταβήσεται (will descend) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἀναστήσονται (will rise) πρῶτον (first).

⁹ ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Μιχαὴλ (Michael) ὁ (the) ἀρχάγγελος (archangel), ὅτε (when) τῷ (with the) διαβόλῳ (devil) διακρινόμενος (disputing), διελέγετο (he was reasoning) περὶ (about) τοῦ (-) Μωϋσέως (Moses’) σώματος (body), οὐκ (not) ἐτόλμησεν (did dare) κρίσιν (a judgment) ἐπενεγκεῖν (to bring against him) βλασφημίας (blasphemous), ἀλλὰ (but) εἶπεν (said), “Ἐπιτιμήσαι (Rebuke) σοι (you), Κύριος (the Lord).”
