³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, ⁴ who con soles us in all our afflictions, so that we are able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ For as the sufferings for the Christ abound in us, so also through Christ abounds our consolation. ⁶ And if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which salvation is effected by your patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer; (and our hope in you is steadfast;) or if we are consoled, it is for your comfort and salvation; ⁷ because we know, that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you shall be partakers of the comfort.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good; ¹⁰ in love to the brotherhood, be kindly affectionate one to another; in showing honor, be examples one to another; ¹¹ in what requires diligence, be not slothful; in spirit, be fervent; in service, be devoted to the Lord; ¹² in hope, be joyful; in affliction, be patient; in prayer, be per severing; ¹³ administer to the necessities of the saints; be careful to entertain strangers; ¹⁴ bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not; ¹⁵ rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep; ¹⁶ cultivate the same disposition, one to ward another: mind not high things, but conform yourselves to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits;

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that you may be restored to health: the fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his abundant mercy, has, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, regenerated us for a living hope ⁴ in respect to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for us, ⁵ who are kept secure by the power of God through faith, to a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time: ⁶ in which you rejoice, though now for a little while, since it is needful, you are in sorrow under various temptations; ⁷ that your faith, when proved, being much more precious than gold, which perishes though it be tried by fire, may be found to be for praise and honor and glory, at the revelation of Jesus Christ; ⁸ -whom, though you have not seen him, yet you love; on whom not now looking, but believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable, and full of glory, ⁹ receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

⁷ For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

²⁸ Come to me, all you that are weary, and heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my bur den is light.

⁷ Cast all your cares on him, for he cares for you.
