²⁰ And he said: What comes out of the man, is that which defiles the man. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the purposes which are evil: adulteries, lewd actions, murders, ²² thefts, schemes for extortion, wicked deeds, deceit, wantonness, an evil eye, calumny, haughtiness, impiety. ²³ All these evil things come forth from within, and defile the man.

⁴⁵ The good man, out of the good treasury of his heart, brings forth that which is good; and the evil man, out of the evil treasury of his heart, brings forth that which is evil. For out of the abundance of his heart his mouth speaks.

¹ But know this, that in the last days trying times will come. ² For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, revilers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, implacable, false accusers, intemperate, fierce, haters of those who are good, ⁴ traitors, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, ⁵ having a form of godliness, but denying its power: from these also turn away.
