Bible verses about "hatred" | Anderson

Matthew 5:43-45

43 You have heard that it was said: You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies: bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who insult you and persecute you: 45 that you may be the sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun to rise upon the evil and the good, and causes it to rain on the just and on the unjust.

Galatians 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are well known, and they are these lewdness, uncleanness, wantonness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strifes, jealousies, anger, party-spirit, divisions, sects, 21 envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; with respect to which, I tell you now, as I also told you in times past, that those who practice such things shall riot inherit the kingdom of God.

James 4:1-17

1 Whence come wars and strifes among you? Come they not hence, even of your passions, which war in your members? 2 You desire, and you have not; you kill, and are earnestly desirous of having, and yet you can not obtain; you fight and war, and yet you have not, because you ask not. 3 You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your passions. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses, know you not that the friend ship of the world is enmity to God? Whoever, therefore, will be a friend of the world, is an enemy of God. 5 Do you suppose that the scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the Spirit that dwells in us incline to envy? No. 6 But he gives more grace. "Wherefore he says: God sets himself against the proud, but gives grace to the lowly. 7 Submit yourselves, therefore, to God; resist the devil, and he will flee from you; 8 draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded men. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to sorrow. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you. 11 Do not speak evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12 There is one law-giver that is able to save, and to destroy: who are you that judge an other? 13 Come, now, you that say, Let us go to-day, or to-morrow, into this city, and remain there a year, and trade, and make gain; 14 and yet you know not what will take place to-morrow. For what is your life? Is it not, indeed, a vapor, that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away? 15 Instead of that, you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16 But now you glory in your boastings: all such glorying is evil. 17 Therefore, to him that knows how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.

Luke 6:27-36

27 But I say to you that hear: Love your enemies; do good to them that hate you; 28 bless them that curse you; pray for them that abuse you. 29 To him that strikes you on one cheek, offer also the other; and from him that takes away your mantle, withhold not your coat. 30 Give to every one that asks of you; and of him that takes away your goods, ask them not again. 31 And as you would that men should do to you, do you also in like manner to them. 32 And if you love them that love you, what thanks have you? for even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to them that do good to you, what thanks have you? for even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to them from whom you hope to receive, what thanks have you? for even sinners lend to sinners, that they may receive the same. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be sons of the Most High: for he is kind to the unthankful and the evil. 36 Be you, therefore, merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

John 15:18

18 If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you.

1 John 2:11

11 He that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness; and he knows not whither he goes, because darkness has blinded his eyes.

Matthew 5:44

44 But I say to you, Love your enemies: bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who insult you and persecute you:

Matthew 6:15

15 But if you forgive not men their offenses, neither will your Father forgive your offenses.

1 John 2:9

9 He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness till now.

1 John 4:20

20 If any man say, I love God, and yet hate his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother, whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
