⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² The same was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. ⁴ In him was life; and the life was the light of men. ⁵ And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. ⁶ There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him. ⁸ He was not the light, but [came] that he might bear witness of the light. ⁹ There was the true light, [even the light] which lighteth every man, coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹ He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not. ¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: ¹³ who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me. ¹⁶ For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].
¹⁹ And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? ²⁰ And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. ²² They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet. ²⁴ And they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not, ²⁷ [even] he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
²⁹ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me. ³¹ And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water. ³² And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him. ³³ And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit. ³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.
³⁵ Again on the morrow John was standing, and two of his disciples; ³⁶ and he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God! ³⁷ And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. ³⁸ And Jesus turned, and beheld them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? And they said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), where abidest thou? ³⁹ He saith unto them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour. ⁴⁰ One of the two that heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ). ⁴² He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).
⁴³ On the morrow he was minded to go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip: and Jesus saith unto him, Follow me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! ⁴⁸ Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee underneath the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. ⁵¹ And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

¹ And it came to pass when Jesus had finished these words, he departed from Galilee, and came into the borders of Judζa beyond the Jordan; ² and great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
³ And there came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying, Is it lawful [for a man] to put away his wife for every cause? ⁴ And he answered and said, { Have ye not read, that he who made [them] from the beginning made them male and female, ⁵ and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh? ⁶ So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.} ⁷ They say unto him, Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorcement, and to put [her] away? ⁸ He saith unto them, { Moses for your hardness of heart suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it hath not been so. ⁹ And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her when she is put away committeth adultery.} ¹⁰ The disciples say unto him, If the case of the man is so with his wife, it is not expedient to marry. ¹¹ But he said unto them, { Not all men can receive this saying, but they to whom it is given. ¹² For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.}
¹³ Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should lay his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. ¹⁴ But Jesus said, Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for to such belongeth the kingdom of heaven. ¹⁵ And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
¹⁶ And behold, one came to him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? ¹⁷ And he said unto him, Why askest thou me concerning that which is good? One there is who is good: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments. ¹⁸ He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, { Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, ¹⁹ Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.} ²⁰ The young man saith unto him, All these things have I observed: what lack I yet? ²¹ Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. ²² But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions.
²³ And Jesus said unto his disciples, { Verily I say unto you, It is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.} ²⁵ And when the disciples heard it, they were astonished exceedingly, saying, Who then can be saved? ²⁶ And Jesus looking upon [them] said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. ²⁷ Then answered Peter and said unto him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then shall we have? ²⁸ And Jesus said unto them, { Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And every one that hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many shall be last [that are] first; and first [that are] last.}

¹ Wherefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on unto perfection; not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, ² of the teaching of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. ³ And this will we do, if God permit. ⁴ For as touching those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, ⁶ and [then] fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. ⁷ For the land which hath drunk the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receiveth blessing from God: ⁸ but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned.
⁹ But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak: ¹⁰ for God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which ye showed toward his name, in that ye ministered unto the saints, and still do minister. ¹¹ And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the fulness of hope even to the end: ¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
¹³ For when God made promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he sware by himself, ¹⁴ saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. ¹⁵ And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise. ¹⁶ For men swear by the greater: and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation. ¹⁷ Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath; ¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us: ¹⁹ which we have as an anchor of the soul, [a hope] both sure and stedfast and entering into that which is within the veil; ²⁰ whither as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

⁴ These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven. ⁵ And no plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth: and there was not a man to till the ground; ⁶ but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. ⁷ And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ⁸ And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. ⁹ And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four heads. ¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; ¹² and the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. ¹³ And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush. ¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth in front of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. ¹⁵ And Jehovah God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. ¹⁶ And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: ¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
¹⁸ And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. ¹⁹ And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof. ²⁰ And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him. ²¹ And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof: ²² and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. ²³ And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. ²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. ²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

³ By faith we understand that the worlds have been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen hath not been made out of things which appear.

³ And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

⁵ Thus saith God Jehovah, he that created the heavens, and stretched them forth; he that spread abroad the earth and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

⁸ But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

²⁰ And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. ²¹ And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that moveth, wherewith the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind: and God saw that it was good. ²² And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth. ²³ And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
²⁴ And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind, cattle, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth after their kind: and it was so. ²⁵ And God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the ground after its kind: and God saw that it was good. ²⁶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. ²⁷ And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. ²⁸ And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. ²⁹ And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food: ³⁰ and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, [I have given] every green herb for food: and it was so. ³¹ And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
