²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.

⁴ nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, which are not befitting: but rather giving of thanks.

⁶ A scoffer seeketh wisdom, and [findeth it] not;
But knowledge is easy unto him that hath understanding. ⁷ Go into the presence of a foolish man,
And thou shalt not perceive [in him] the lips of knowledge. ⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way;
But the folly of fools is deceit. ⁹ A trespass-offering mocketh fools;
But among the upright there is good will.

² And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

⁵ But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

⁴ Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and put out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

³ knowing this first, that in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts, ⁴ and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. ⁵ For this they wilfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God; ⁶ by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: ⁷ but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

¹² A scoffer loveth not to be reproved;
He will not go unto the wise.

¹ Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor standeth in the way of sinners,
Nor sitteth in the seat of scoffers:

⁵ Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker;
[And] he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
