²³ Abide thou with me, fear not; for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: for with me thou shalt be in safeguard.

¹⁶ And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, and to return from following after thee, for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God;

⁶ Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
But the kisses of an enemy are profuse.

¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

¹⁷ where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: Jehovah do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.

¹⁷ A friend loveth at all times;
And a brother is born for adversity.

¹⁹ As in water face [answereth] to face,
So the heart of man to man.

¹⁴ To him that is ready to faint kindness [should be showed] from his friend;
Even to him that forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

¹⁷ Iron sharpeneth iron;
So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

⁹ Oil and perfume rejoice the heart;
So doth the sweetness of a man's friend [that cometh] of hearty counsel.

²⁴ He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction;
But there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

⁹ Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. ¹⁰ For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, and hath not another to lift him up. ¹¹ Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one be warm [alone]? ¹² And if a man prevail against him that is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
