³³ Their wine is the poison of serpents,
And the cruel venom of asps.

¹⁹ That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals,
And covered us with the shadow of death.

¹ Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook?
Or press down his tongue with a cord? ² Canst thou put a rope into his nose?
Or pierce his jaw through with a hook? ³ Will he make many supplications unto thee?
Or will he speak soft words unto thee? ⁴ Will he make a covenant with thee,
That thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever? ⁵ Wilt thou play with him as with a bird?
Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? ⁶ Will the bands [of fishermen] make traffic of him?
Will they part him among the merchants? ⁷ Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons,
Or his head with fish-spears? ⁸ Lay thy hand upon him;
Remember the battle, and do so no more. ⁹ Behold, the hope of him is in vain:
Will not one be cast down even at the sight of him? ¹⁰ None is so fierce that he dare stir him up;
Who then is he that can stand before me? ¹¹ Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him?
[Whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
¹² I will not keep silence concerning his limbs,
Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame. ¹³ Who can strip off his outer garment?
Who shall come within his jaws? ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face?
Round about his teeth is terror. ¹⁵ [His] strong scales are [his] pride,
Shut up together [as with] a close seal. ¹⁶ One is so near to another,
That no air can come between them. ¹⁷ They are joined one to another;
They stick together, so that they cannot be sundered. ¹⁸ His sneezings flash forth light,
And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning torches,
And sparks of fire leap forth. ²⁰ Out of his nostrils a smoke goeth,
As of a boiling pot and [burning] rushes. ²¹ His breath kindleth coals,
And a flame goeth forth from his mouth. ²² In his neck abideth strength,
And terror danceth before him. ²³ The flakes of his flesh are joined together:
They are firm upon him; they cannot be moved. ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone;
Yea, firm as the nether millstone. ²⁵ When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid:
By reason of consternation they are beside themselves. ²⁶ If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail;
Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft. ²⁷ He counteth iron as straw,
[And] brass as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee:
Sling-stones are turned with him into stubble. ²⁹ Clubs are counted as stubble:
He laugheth at the rushing of the javelin. ³⁰ His underparts are [like] sharp potsherds:
He spreadeth [as it were] a threshing-wain upon the mire. ³¹ He maketh the deep to boil like a pot:
He maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. ³² He maketh a path to shine after him;
One would think the deep to be hoary. ³³ Upon earth there is not his like,
That is made without fear. ³⁴ He beholdeth everything that is high:
He is king over all the sons of pride.

¹³ Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength:
Thou brakest the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters.

⁷ Praise Jehovah from the earth,
Ye sea-monsters, and all deeps.

¹³ Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:
The young lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under foot.

¹³ And thorns shall come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches.

²² And wolves shall cry in their castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster?

²⁰ The beasts of the field shall honor me, the jackals and the ostriches; because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen,

⁷ And the glowing sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water: in the habitation of jackals, where they lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

⁶ And the wild asses stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.

¹¹ And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

³ speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lieth in the midst of his rivers, that hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath, like a monster, swallowed me up, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath cast me out.

³ but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and [gave] his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.

⁸ For this will I lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals, and a lamentation like the ostriches.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

³ And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his heads seven diadems.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,

¹ And a great sign was seen in heaven: a woman arrayed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars; ² and she was with child; and she crieth out, travailing in birth, and in pain to be delivered. ³ And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his heads seven diadems. ⁴ And his tail draweth the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon standeth before the woman that is about to be delivered, that when she is delivered he may devour her child. ⁵ And she was delivered of a son, a man child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and unto his throne. ⁶ And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that there they may nourish her a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
⁷ And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels [going forth] to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels; ⁸ and they prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. ⁹ And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying,
Now is come the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accuseth them before our God day and night. ¹¹ And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony; and they loved not their life even unto death. ¹² Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe for the earth and for the sea: because the devil is gone down unto you, having great wrath, knowing that he hath but a short time.
¹³ And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth, he persecuted the woman that brought forth the man [child]. ¹⁴ And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth after the woman water as a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. ¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon waxed wroth with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, that keep the commandments of God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:

¹ In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.
