¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying.

⁸ My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother: ⁹ For they shall be an ornament of grace to your head, and chains about your neck.

³ Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? ⁸ But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they truly for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby.

⁶ And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: ⁷ And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. ⁸ And you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the posts of your house, and on your gates.

¹⁷ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yes, he shall give delight to your soul.

¹³ Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die.

³ See, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

⁷ In all things showing yourself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing soundness, gravity, sincerity,

²⁴ He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him betimes.

²¹ Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

²⁰ And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. ²¹ And he spoke to the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? ²² Then you shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. ²³ For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until you were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: ²⁴ That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that you might fear the LORD your God for ever.

⁶ Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

⁴ And, you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
