Bible verses about "prophets" | ACV

Deuteronomy 13:1-5

1 If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives thee a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou have not known, and let us serve them, 3 thou shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams, for LORD your God proves you, to know whether ye love LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cling to him. 5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death, because he has spoken rebellion against LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside out of the way which LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shall thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

1 Corinthians 14:26-33

26 What is it therefore, brothers? When ye come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If any man speaks in a tongue, be according to two, or at the most three, and in succession. And let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silence in an assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 And let two or three prophets speak, and let the other men pass judgment. 30 But if it should be revealed to another man who is seated, let the first be silent. 31 For ye can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn, and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets, 33 for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.

Amos 3:7

7 Surely the lord LORD will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

1 John 4:1

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but examine the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2 Peter 1:21

21 For no prophecy was ever brought by a will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being led by the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 1:1-2

1 God, who formerly spoke in many portions and in many ways to the fathers by the prophets, spoke to us in these last days by a Son, 2 whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the ages.
