¹⁶ Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you that ye may go and bear fruit, and that your fruit may remain; that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

¹⁶ And the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into the mountain where Jesus had appointed them. ¹⁷ And seeing him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. ¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying: All power was given to me in heaven and on earth. ¹⁹ Go therefore, and disciple all the nations, immersing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; ²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you alway, unto the end of the world.

¹⁷ And Jesus said to them: Come after me, and I will cause you to become fishers of men. ¹⁸ And immediately leaving the nets, they followed him. ¹⁹ And going a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending the nets. ²⁰ And straightway he called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, they went after him.

¹⁷ Only, as the Lord apportioned to each one, as God has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches. ¹⁸ Was any one called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has any one been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised. ¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing; but the keeping of the commandments of God. ²⁰ Let each one abide in the same calling wherein he was called. ²¹ Wast thou called being a servant? Care not for it; but if thou canst become free, use it rather. ²² For he that was called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freedman; in like manner also the freeman, being called, is Christ's servant. ²³ Ye were bought with a price; become not servants of men. ²⁴ Brethren, let every man, wherein he was called, therein abide with God.

¹ I, THE prisoner in the Lord, exhort you, therefore, to walk worthy of the calling with which ye were called, ² with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love; ³ endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. ⁴ There is one body, and one Spirit, as also ye were called in one hope of your calling; ⁵ one Lord, one faith, one immersion, ⁶ one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. ⁷ But to each one of us the grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. ⁸ Wherefore he says: When he ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men. ⁹ Now this, he ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ The one who descended, he is also the one who ascended above all the heavens, that he may fill all things. ¹¹ And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers; ¹² for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ;

¹⁴ For many are called, but few are chosen.

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; Because he anointed me to publish good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to proclaim deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To send the oppressed away free,

⁴ For as we have many members in one body, and all the members have not the same office; ⁵ so we, the many, are one body in Christ, and severally members one of another. ⁶ And having gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of our faith; ⁷ or ministry, [let us wait] on the ministry; or he that teaches, on the teaching; ⁸ or he that exhorts, on the exhortation; he that gives, [let him do it] with simplicity; he that presides, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
