⁵⁰ This is the bread that comes down out of heaven, that one may eat thereof, and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down out of heaven. Not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead; he that eats of this bread shall live forever. ⁵⁹ These things he said in the synagogue, while teaching in Capernaum. ⁶⁰ Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard it, said: This is a hard saying; who can hear it? ⁶¹ But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them: Does this offend you? ⁶² What then if ye behold the Son of man ascending up where he was before? ⁶³ It is the spirit that makes alive, the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. ⁶⁴ But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him. ⁶⁵ And he said: For this cause I have said to you, that no one can come to me, except it be given him from the Father. ⁶⁶ From this time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Jesus said therefore to the twelve: Will ye also go away? ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we believe and know, that thou art the Holy One of God. ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them: Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot, son of Simon; for he it was that would betray him, being one of the twelve.

¹⁴ whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁵ So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by our letter.

⁸ Beware lest there shall be any one that despoils you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

² Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and, hold fast the traditions, as I delivered them to you.
