²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his soul?

⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men; they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the fringes; ⁶ and love the first place at feasts, and the first seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and the greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

⁸ Again the Devil takes him into an exceedingly high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ⁹ and says to him: All these things I will give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. ¹⁰ Then Jesus says to him: Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written: Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

¹⁶ Be of the same mind one toward another. Aspire not to things that are high, but condescend to the lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.

²⁰ being emulous so to preach the good news, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another's foundation;

⁸ Beware lest there shall be any one that despoils you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

² Ye desire, and have not; ye kill, and envy, and can not obtain; ye fight and war. Ye have not, because ye ask not;

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, receiving honor from one another, and the honor that is from God alone ye seek not?

⁴ regarding not each one his own, but each one also the things of others.

¹ FROM whence are wars, and from whence are fightings among you? Are they not from hence, from your lusts that war in your members? ² Ye desire, and have not; ye kill, and envy, and can not obtain; ye fight and war. Ye have not, because ye ask not;

⁹ But they who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many foolish and hurtful lusts, which sink men into destruction and perdition.

¹⁶ Because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the empty pomp of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

¹² And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

³³ But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these shall be added to you.
