  3 H1980 וילך And he went H4550 למסעיו on his journeys H5045 מנגב from the south H5704 ועד even to H1008 בית אל Bethel, H5704 עד unto H4725 המקום the place H834 אשׁר where H1961 היה had been H8033 שׁם where H168 אהלה his tent H8462 בתחלה at the beginning, H996 בין between H1008 בית אל Bethel H996 ובין   H5857 העי׃ and Hai;

  2 H7971 וישׁלח sent H3091 יהושׁע And Joshua H376 אנשׁים men H3405 מיריחו   H5857 העי to Ai, H834 אשׁר which H5973 עם beside H1007 בית און Beth-aven, H6924 מקדם on the east side H1008 לבית אל of Bethel, H559 ויאמר and spoke H413 אליהם unto H559 לאמר them, saying, H5927 עלו Go up H7270 ורגלו and view H853 את   H776 הארץ the country. H5927 ויעלו went up H376 האנשׁים And the men H7270 וירגלו and viewed H853 את   H5857 העי׃ Ai.

  3 H7725 וישׁבו And they returned H413 אל to H3091 יהושׁע Joshua, H559 ויאמרו and said H413 אליו unto H408 אל him, Let not H5927 יעל go up; H3605 כל all H5971 העם the people H505 כאלפים but let about two H376 אישׁ men H176 או or H7969 כשׁלשׁת three H505 אלפים thousand H376 אישׁ   H5927 יעלו go up H5221 ויכו and smite H853 את   H5857 העי Ai; H408 אל make not H3021 תיגע to labor H8033 שׁמה thither; H853 את   H3605 כל all H5971 העם the people H3588 כי for H4592 מעט few. H1992 המה׃ they

  4 H5927 ויעלו So there went up H4480 מן of H5971 העם the people H8033 שׁמה thither H7969 כשׁלשׁת about three H505 אלפים thousand H376 אישׁ men: H5127 וינסו and they fled H6440 לפני before H376 אנשׁי the men H5857 העי׃ of Ai.

  5 H5221 ויכו smote H1992 מהם   H582 אנשׁי   H5857 העי of Ai H7970 כשׁלשׁים them about thirty H8337 ושׁשׁה and six H376 אישׁ And the men H7291 וירדפום for they chased H6440 לפני them before H8179 השׁער the gate H5704 עד unto H7671 השׁברים Shebarim, H5221 ויכום and smote H4174 במורד them in the going down: H4549 וימס melted, H3824 לבב wherefore the hearts H5971 העם of the people H1961 ויהי and became H4325 למים׃ as water.

  1 H559 ויאמר said H3068 יהוה And the LORD H413 אל unto H3091 יהושׁע Joshua, H408 אל not, H3372 תירא Fear H408 ואל neither H2865 תחת be thou dismayed: H3947 קח take H5973 עמך with H853 את   H3605 כל all H5971 עם the people H4421 המלחמה of war H6965 וקום thee, and arise, H5927 עלה go up H5857 העי to Ai: H7200 ראה see, H5414 נתתי I have given H3027 בידך into thy hand H853 את   H4428 מלך the king H5857 העי of Ai, H853 ואת   H5971 עמו and his people, H853 ואת   H5892 עירו and his city, H853 ואת   H776 ארצו׃ and his land:

  2 H6213 ועשׂית And thou shalt do H5857 לעי to Ai H4428 ולמלכה and her king H834 כאשׁר as H6213 עשׂית thou didst H3405 ליריחו unto Jericho H4428 ולמלכה and her king: H7535 רק only H7998 שׁללה the spoil H929 ובהמתה thereof, and the cattle H962 תבזו thereof, shall ye take for a prey H7760 לכם שׂים unto yourselves: lay H693 לך ארב thee an ambush H5892 לעיר for the city H310 מאחריה׃ behind

  3 H6965 ויקם arose, H3091 יהושׁע So Joshua H3605 וכל and all H5971 עם the people H4421 המלחמה of war, H5927 לעלות to go up H5857 העי against Ai: H977 ויבחר chose out H3091 יהושׁע and Joshua H7970 שׁלשׁים thirty H505 אלף thousand H376 אישׁ men H1368 גבורי mighty H2428 החיל of valor, H7971 וישׁלחם and sent them away H3915 לילה׃ by night.

  9 H7971 וישׁלחם therefore sent them forth: H3091 יהושׁע Joshua H1980 וילכו and they went H413 אל to H3993 המארב lie in ambush, H3427 וישׁבו and abode H996 בין between H1008 בית אל Bethel H996 ובין   H5857 העי and Ai, H3220 מים on the west side H5857 לעי of Ai: H3885 וילן lodged H3091 יהושׁע but Joshua H3915 בלילה night H1931 ההוא that H8432 בתוך among H5971 העם׃ the people.

  10 H7925 וישׁכם rose up early H3091 יהושׁע And Joshua H1242 בבקר in the morning, H6485 ויפקד and numbered H853 את   H5971 העם the people, H5927 ויעל and went up, H1931 הוא he H2205 וזקני and the elders H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H6440 לפני before H5971 העם the people H5857 העי׃ to Ai.

  11 H3605 וכל And all H5971 העם the people, H4421 המלחמה of war H834 אשׁר that H854 אתו with H5927 עלו him, went up, H5066 ויגשׁו and drew nigh, H935 ויבאו and came H5048 נגד before H5892 העיר the city, H2583 ויחנו and pitched H6828 מצפון on the north side H5857 לעי of Ai: H1516 והגי now a valley H996 בינו between H996 ובין   H5857 העי׃ them and Ai.

  12 H3947 ויקח And he took H2568 כחמשׁת about five H505 אלפים thousand H376 אישׁ men, H7760 וישׂם and set H853 אותם   H693 ארב them to lie in ambush H996 בין between H1008 בית אל Bethel H996 ובין   H5857 העי and Ai, H3220 מים on the west side H5892 לעיר׃ of the city.

  14 H1961 ויהי And it came to pass, H7200 כראות saw H4428 מלך when the king H5857 העי of Ai H4116 וימהרו that they hasted H7925 וישׁכימו and rose up early, H3318 ויצאו went out H582 אנשׁי   H5892 העיר of the city H7125 לקראת against H3478 ישׂראל Israel H4421 למלחמה to battle, H1931 הוא he H3605 וכל and all H5971 עמו his people, H4150 למועד at a time appointed, H6440 לפני before H6160 הערבה the plain; H1931 והוא but he H3808 לא not H3045 ידע knew H3588 כי that H693 ארב liers in ambush H310 לו מאחרי against him behind H5892 העיר׃ the city.

  17 H3808 ולא And there was not H7604 נשׁאר left H376 אישׁ a man H5857 בעי in Ai H1008 ובית אל or Bethel, H834 אשׁר that H3808 לא went not out H3318 יצאו went not out H310 אחרי after H3478 ישׂראל Israel: H5800 ויעזבו and they left H853 את   H5892 העיר the city H6605 פתוחה open, H7291 וירדפו and pursued H310 אחרי after H3478 ישׂראל׃ Israel.

  18 H559 ויאמר said H3068 יהוה And the LORD H413 אל unto H3091 יהושׁע Joshua, H5186 נטה Stretch out H3591 בכידון the spear H834 אשׁר that H3027 בידך in thy hand H413 אל toward H5857 העי Ai; H3588 כי for H3027 בידך it into thine hand. H5414 אתננה I will give H5186 ויט stretched out H3091 יהושׁע And Joshua H3591 בכידון the spear H834 אשׁר that H3027 בידו in his hand H413 אל toward H5892 העיר׃ the city.

  20 H6437 ויפנו looked H376 אנשׁי And when the men H5857 העי of Ai H310 אחריהם behind H7200 ויראו them, they saw, H2009 והנה and, behold, H5927 עלה ascended up H6227 עשׁן the smoke H5892 העיר of the city H8064 השׁמימה to heaven, H3808 ולא no H1961 היה and they had H3027 בהם ידים power H5127 לנוס to flee H2008 הנה this way H2008 והנה or that way: H5971 והעם and the people H5127 הנס that fled H4057 המדבר to the wilderness H2015 נהפך turned back H413 אל upon H7291 הרודף׃ the pursuers.

  21 H3091 ויהושׁע And when Joshua H3605 וכל and all H3478 ישׂראל Israel H7200 ראו saw H3588 כי that H3920 לכד had taken H693 הארב the ambush H853 את   H5892 העיר the city, H3588 וכי and that H5927 עלה ascended, H6227 עשׁן the smoke H5892 העיר of the city H7725 וישׁבו then they turned again, H5221 ויכו and slew H853 את   H582 אנשׁי   H5857 העי׃ of Ai.

  23 H853 ואת   H4428 מלך And the king H5857 העי of Ai H8610 תפשׂו they took H2416 חי alive, H7126 ויקרבו and brought H853 אתו   H413 אל him to H3091 יהושׁע׃ Joshua.

  24 H1961 ויהי And it came to pass, H3615 ככלות had made an end H3478 ישׂראל when Israel H2026 להרג of slaying H853 את   H3605 כל all H3427 ישׁבי the inhabitants H5857 העי of Ai H7704 בשׂדה in the field, H4057 במדבר in the wilderness H834 אשׁר wherein H7291 רדפום they chased H5307 בו ויפלו fallen H3605 כלם them, and when they were all H6310 לפי on the edge H2719 חרב of the sword, H5704 עד until H8552 תמם they were consumed, H7725 וישׁבו returned H3605 כל that all H3478 ישׂראל the Israelites H5857 העי unto Ai, H5221 ויכו and smote H853 אתה   H6310 לפי it with the edge H2719 חרב׃ of the sword.

  25 H1961 ויהי And it was, H3605 כל all H5307 הנפלים that fell H3117 ביום day, H1931 ההוא that H376 מאישׁ both of men H5704 ועד   H802 אשׁה and women, H8147 שׁנים twelve H6240 עשׂר twelve H505 אלף thousand, H3605 כל all H376 אנשׁי the men H5857 העי׃ of Ai.

  26 H3091 ויהושׁע For Joshua H3808 לא not H7725 השׁיב drew H3027 ידו his hand H834 אשׁר back, wherewith H5186 נטה he stretched out H3591 בכידון the spear, H5704 עד until H834 אשׁר until H2763 החרים he had utterly destroyed H853 את   H3605 כל all H3427 ישׁבי the inhabitants H5857 העי׃ of Ai.

  28 H8313 וישׂרף burnt H3091 יהושׁע And Joshua H853 את   H5857 העי Ai, H7760 וישׂימה and made H8510 תל it a heap H5769 עולם forever, H8077 שׁממה a desolation H5704 עד unto H3117 היום day. H2088 הזה׃ this

  29 H853 ואת   H4428 מלך And the king H5857 העי of Ai H8518 תלה he hanged H5921 על on H6086 העץ a tree H5704 עד until H6256 עת eventide: H6153 הערב eventide: H935 וכבוא was down, H8121 השׁמשׁ and as soon as the sun H6680 צוה commanded H3091 יהושׁע Joshua H3381 וירידו   H853 את   H5038 נבלתו   H4480 מן from H6086 העץ the tree, H7993 וישׁליכו and cast H853 אותה   H413 אל it at H6607 פתח the entering H8179 שׁער of the gate H5892 העיר of the city, H6965 ויקימו and raise H5921 עליו thereon H1530 גל heap H68 אבנים of stones, H1419 גדול a great H5704 עד unto H3117 היום day. H2088 הזה׃ this

  3 H3427 וישׁבי And when the inhabitants H1391 גבעון of Gibeon H8085 שׁמעו heard H853 את   H834 אשׁר what H6213 עשׂה had done H3091 יהושׁע Joshua H3405 ליריחו unto Jericho H5857 ולעי׃ and to Ai,

  1 H1961 ויהי Now it came to pass, H8085 כשׁמע had heard H139 אדני צדק when Adoni-zedek H4428 מלך king H3389 ירושׁלם of Jerusalem H3588 כי how H3920 לכד had taken H3091 יהושׁע Joshua H853 את   H5857 העי Ai, H2763 ויחרימה and had utterly destroyed H834 כאשׁר it; as H6213 עשׂה he had done H3405 ליריחו to Jericho H4428 ולמלכה and her king, H3651 כן so H6213 עשׂה he had done H5857 לעי to Ai H4428 ולמלכה and her king; H3588 וכי and how H7999 השׁלימו had made peace H3427 ישׁבי the inhabitants H1391 גבעון of Gibeon H854 את with H3478 ישׂראל Israel, H1961 ויהיו and were H7130 בקרבם׃ among

  2 H3372 וייראו That they feared H3966 מאד greatly, H3588 כי because H5892 עיר city, H1419 גדולה a great H1391 גבעון Gibeon H259 כאחת as one H5892 ערי cities, H4467 הממלכה of the royal H3588 וכי and because H1931 היא it H1419 גדולה greater H4480 מן than H5857 העי Ai, H3605 וכל and all H376 אנשׁיה the men H1368 גברים׃ thereof mighty.

  9 H4428 מלך The king H3405 יריחו of Jericho, H259 אחד one; H4428 מלך the king H5857 העי of Ai, H834 אשׁר which H6654 מצד beside H1008 בית אל Bethel, H259 אחד׃ one;

  28 H376 אנשׁי The men H1008 בית אל of Bethel H5857 והעי and Ai, H3967 מאתים two hundred H6242 עשׂרים twenty H7969 ושׁלשׁה׃ and three.

  32 H376 אנשׁי The men H1008 בית אל of Bethel H5857 והעי and Ai, H3967 מאה a hundred H6242 עשׂרים twenty H7969 ושׁלשׁה׃ and three.
