Jeremiah 37 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

1 H4428 And king H6667 Zedekiah H1121 the son H2977 of Josiah H4427 [H8799] reigned H3659 instead of Coniah H1121 the son H3079 of Jehoiakim, H5019 whom Nebuchadnezzar H4428 king H894 of Babylon H4427 [H8689] made king H776 in the land H3063 of Judah.

2 H5650 But neither he, nor his servants, H5971 nor the people H776 of the land, H8085 [H8804] hearkened H1697 to the words H3068 of the LORD, H1696 [H8765] which he spoke H3027 by H5030 the prophet H3414 Jeremiah.

3 H6667 And Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 [H8799] sent H3081 Jehucal H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah H6846 and Zephaniah H1121 the son H4641 of Maaseiah H3548 the priest H5030 to the prophet H3414 Jeremiah, H559 [H8800] saying, H6419 [H8690] Pray H3068 now to the LORD H430 our God for us.

4 H3414 Now Jeremiah H935 [H8804] came in H3318 [H8802] and went out H8432 among H5971 the people: H5414 [H8804] for they had not put H1004 H3628 him into prison.

5 H6547 Then Pharaoh's H2428 army H3318 [H8804] had come H4714 from Egypt: H3778 and when the Chaldeans H6696 [H8802] that besieged H3389 Jerusalem H8085 [H8799] heard H8088 tidings H5927 [H8735] of them, they departed H3389 from Jerusalem.

6 H1697 Then came the word H3068 of the LORD H5030 to the prophet H3414 Jeremiah, H559 [H8800] saying,

7 H559 [H8804] Thus saith H3068 the LORD, H430 the God H3478 of Israel; H559 [H8799] Thus shall ye say H4428 to the king H3063 of Judah, H7971 [H8802] that sent H1875 [H8800] you to me to enquire H6547 of me; Behold, Pharaoh's H2428 army, H3318 [H8802] which hath come forth H5833 to help H7725 [H8804] you, shall return H4714 to Egypt H776 into their own land.

8 H3778 And the Chaldeans H7725 [H8804] shall come again, H3898 [H8738] and fight H5892 against this city, H3920 [H8804] and take H8313 [H8804] it, and burn H784 it with fire.

9 H559 [H8804] Thus saith H3068 the LORD; H5377 [H8686] Deceive H5315 not yourselves, H559 [H8800] saying, H3778 The Chaldeans H1980 [H8800] shall surely H3212 [H8799] depart H3212 [H8799] from us: for they shall not depart.

10 H5221 [H8689] For though ye had smitten H2428 the whole army H3778 of the Chaldeans H3898 [H8737] that fight H7604 [H8738] against you, and there remained H1856 [H8794] but wounded H582 men H6965 [H8799] among them, yet should they rise up H376 every man H168 in his tent, H8313 [H8804] and burn H5892 this city H784 with fire.

11 H2428 And it came to pass, that when the army H3778 of the Chaldeans H5927 [H8736] was broken up H3389 from Jerusalem H6440 for fear H6547 of Pharaoh's H2428 army,

12 H3414 Then Jeremiah H3318 [H8799] went H3389 out of Jerusalem H3212 [H8800] to go H776 into the land H1144 of Benjamin, H2505 [H8687] to separate H8432 himself from there in the midst H5971 of the people.

13 H8179 And when he was in the gate H1144 of Benjamin, H1167 a captain H6488 of the guard H8034 was there, whose name H3376 was Irijah, H1121 the son H8018 of Shelemiah, H1121 the son H2608 of Hananiah; H8610 [H8799] and he took H3414 Jeremiah H5030 the prophet, H559 [H8800] saying, H5307 [H8802] Thou fallest away H3778 to the Chaldeans.

14 H559 [H8799] Then said H3414 Jeremiah, H8267 It is false; H5307 [H8802] I fall not away H3778 to the Chaldeans. H8085 [H8804] But he hearkened H3376 not to him: so Irijah H8610 [H8799] took H3414 Jeremiah, H935 [H8686] and brought H8269 him to the princes.

15 H8269 Therefore the princes H7107 [H8799] burst out in rage H3414 with Jeremiah, H5221 [H8689] and beat H5414 [H8804] him, and put H612 him in prison H1004 in the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 [H8802] the scribe: H6213 [H8804] for they had made H3608 that the prison.

16 H3414 When Jeremiah H935 [H8804] had entered H1004 H953 into the dungeon, H2588 and into the cells, H3414 and Jeremiah H3427 [H8799] had remained H7227 there many H3117 days;

17 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H7971 [H8799] sent, H3947 [H8799] and took him out: H4428 and the king H7592 [H8799] asked H5643 him secretly H1004 in his house, H559 [H8799] and said, H1697 Is there any word H3068 from the LORD? H3414 And Jeremiah H559 [H8799] said, H3426 There is: H559 [H8799] for, said H5414 [H8735] he, thou shalt be given H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H894 of Babylon.

18 H3414 Moreover Jeremiah H559 [H8799] said H4428 to king H6667 Zedekiah, H2398 [H8804] How have I offended H5650 against thee, or against thy servants, H5971 or against this people, H5414 [H8804] that ye have put H1004 H3608 me in prison?

19 H346 Where are now H5030 your prophets H5012 [H8738] who prophesied H559 [H8800] to you, saying, H4428 The king H894 of Babylon H935 [H8799] shall not come H776 against you, nor against this land?

20 H8085 [H8798] Therefore hear H113 now, I pray thee, O my sovereign H4428 the king: H8467 let my supplication, H5307 [H8799] I pray thee, be accepted H6440 at the face of H7725 [H8686] thee; that thou cause me not to return H1004 to the house H3083 of Jonathan H5608 [H8802] the scribe, H4191 [H8799] lest I die there.

21 H6667 Then Zedekiah H4428 the king H6680 [H8762] commanded H6485 [H8686] that they should commit H3414 Jeremiah H2691 into the court H4307 of the prison, H5414 [H8800] and that they should give H3117 him daily H3603 a piece H3899 of bread H644 [H8802] out of the baker's H2351 street, H3899 until all the bread H5892 in the city H8552 [H8800] should be consumed. H3414 Thus Jeremiah H3427 [H8799] remained H2691 in the court H4307 of the prison.
