  2 H8668 And the victory H3117 that day H60 was turned into mourning H5971 to all the people: H5971 for the people H8085 [H8804] heard H559 [H8800] it said H3117 that day H4428 how the king H6087 [H8738] was grieved H1121 for his son.
  3 H5971 And the people H935 [H8800] withdrew H1589 [H8691] by stealth H3117 that day H5892 into the city, H5971 as people H3637 [H8737] being ashamed H1589 [H8691] steal away H5127 [H8800] when they flee H4421 in battle.
  4 H4428 But the king H3813 [H8804] covered H6440 his face, H4428 and the king H2199 [H8799] cried H1419 with a loud H6963 voice, H1121 O my son H53 Absalom, H53 O Absalom, H1121 my son, H1121 my son!
  5 H3097 And Joab H935 [H8799] came H1004 into the house H4428 to the king, H559 [H8799] and said, H3001 [H8689] Thou hast shamed H3117 this day H6440 the faces H5650 of all thy servants, H3117 who this day H4422 [H8764] have saved H5315 thy life, H5315 and the lives H1121 of thy sons H1323 and of thy daughters, H5315 and the lives H802 of thy wives, H5315 and the lives H6370 of thy concubines;
  6 H157 [H8800] In that thou lovest H8130 [H8802] thy enemies, H8130 [H8800] and hatest H157 [H8802] thy friends. H5046 [H8689] For thou hast declared H3117 this day, H8269 that thou regardest neither princes H5650 nor servants: H3117 for this day H3045 [H8804] I perceive, H3863 that if H53 Absalom H2416 had lived, H4191 [H8801] and all we had died H3117 this day, H3477 H5869 then it had pleased thee well.
  7 H6965 [H8798] Now therefore arise, H3318 [H8798] go forth, H1696 [H8761] and speak H3820 kindly H5650 to thy servants: H7650 [H8738] for I swear H3068 by the LORD, H3318 [H8802] if thou shalt not go forth, H3885 [H8799] there will not tarry H376 one H3915 with thee this night: H7489 [H8804] and that will be worse H7451 to thee than all the evil H935 [H8804] that hath befallen H5271 thee from thy youth until now.
  8 H4428 Then the king H6965 [H8799] rose, H3427 [H8799] and sat H8179 in the gate. H5046 [H8689] And they told H5971 to all the people, H559 [H8800] saying, H4428 Behold, the king H3427 [H8802] doth sit H8179 in the gate. H5971 And all the people H935 [H8799] came H6440 at the face of H4428 the king: H3478 for Israel H5127 [H8804] had fled H376 every man H168 to his tent.
  9 H5971 And all the people H1777 [H8737] were at strife H7626 throughout all the tribes H3478 of Israel, H559 [H8800] saying, H4428 The king H5337 [H8689] saved H3709 us from the palm H341 [H8802] of our enemies, H4422 [H8765] and he delivered H3709 us from the palm H6430 of the Philistines; H1272 [H8804] and now he hath fled H776 out of the land H53 for Absalom.
  10 H53 And Absalom, H4886 [H8804] whom we anointed H4191 [H8804] over us, is dead H4421 in battle. H2790 [H8688] Now therefore why speak H7725 0 ye not a word of bringing H4428 the king H7725 [H8687] back?
  11 H4428 And king H1732 David H7971 [H8804] sent H6659 to Zadok H54 and to Abiathar H3548 the priests, H559 [H8800] saying, H1696 [H8761] Speak H2205 to the elders H3063 of Judah, H559 [H8800] saying, H314 Why are ye the last H7725 0 to bring H4428 the king H7725 [H8687] back H1004 to his house? H1697 seeing the speech H3478 of all Israel H935 [H8804] is come H4428 to the king, H1004 even to his house.
  12 H251 Ye are my brethren, H6106 ye are my bones H1320 and my flesh: H314 why then are ye the last H7725 [H8687] to bring back H4428 the king?
  13 H559 [H8799] And say H6021 ye to Amasa, H6106 Art thou not of my bone, H1320 and of my flesh? H430 God H6213 [H8799] do H3254 [H8686] so to me, and more H8269 also, if thou be not captain H6635 of the host H6440 at the face of H3117 me continually H8478 in the place H3097 of Joab.
  14 H5186 [H8686] And he bowed H3824 the heart H376 of all the men H3063 of Judah, H259 even as the heart of one H376 man; H7971 [H8799] so that they sent H4428 this word to the king, H7725 [H8798] Return H5650 thou, and all thy servants.
  15 H4428 So the king H7725 [H8799] returned, H935 [H8799] and came H3383 to Jordan. H3063 And Judah H935 [H8804] came H1537 to Gilgal, H3212 [H8800] to go H7125 [H8800] to meet H4428 the king, H5674 0 to conduct H4428 the king H5674 [H8687] over H3383 Jordan.
  16 H8096 And Shimei H1121 the son H1617 of Gera, H1145 a Benjamite, H980 who was of Bahurim, H4116 [H8762] hasted H3381 [H8799] and came down H376 with the men H3063 of Judah H7125 [H8800] to meet H4428 king H1732 David.
  17 H505 And there were a thousand H376 men H1145 of Benjamin H6717 with him, and Ziba H5288 the servant H1004 of the house H7586 of Saul, H2568 H6240 and his fifteen H1121 sons H6242 and his twenty H5650 servants H6743 [H8804] with him; and they went over H3383 Jordan H6440 at the face of H4428 the king.
  18 H5674 [H8804] And there went over H5679 a ferry boat H5674 [H8687] to carry over H4428 the king's H1004 household, H6213 [H8800] and to do H5869 what he thought H2896 good. H8096 And Shimei H1121 the son H1617 of Gera H5307 [H8804] fell down H6440 at the face of H4428 the king, H5674 [H8800] as he came over H3383 Jordan;
  19 H559 [H8799] And said H4428 to the king, H113 Let not my lord H2803 [H8799] impute H5771 perversity H2142 [H8799] to me, neither do thou remember H5650 that which thy servant H5753 [H8689] did perversely H3117 the day H113 that my lord H4428 the king H3318 [H8804] went out H3389 of Jerusalem, H4428 that the king H7760 [H8800] should take H3820 it to his heart.
  20 H5650 For thy servant H3045 [H8804] doth know H2398 [H8804] that I have sinned: H935 [H8804] therefore, behold, I have come H7223 the first H3117 this day H1004 of all the house H3130 of Joseph H3381 [H8800] to go down H7125 [H8800] to meet H113 my lord H4428 the king.
  21 H52 But Abishai H1121 the son H6870 of Zeruiah H6030 [H8799] answered H559 [H8799] and said, H8096 Shall not Shimei H4191 [H8714] be put to death H7043 [H8765] for this, because he cursed H3068 the LORD'S H4899 anointed?
  22 H1732 And David H559 [H8799] said, H1121 What have I to do with you, ye sons H6870 of Zeruiah, H3117 that ye should this day H7854 be adversaries H376 to me? shall there any man H4191 [H8714] be put to death H3117 this day H3478 in Israel? H3045 [H8804] for do not I know H3117 that I am this day H4428 king H3478 over Israel?
  23 H4428 Therefore the king H559 [H8799] said H8096 to Shimei, H4191 [H8799] Thou shalt not die. H4428 And the king H7650 [H8735] swore to him.
  24 H4648 And Mephibosheth H1121 the son H7586 of Saul H3381 [H8804] came down H7125 [H8800] to meet H4428 the king, H3808 and had neither H6213 [H8804] cared for H7272 his feet, H6213 [H8804] nor trimmed H8222 his beard, H3526 [H8765] nor washed H899 his clothes, H3117 from the day H4428 the king H3212 [H8800] departed H3117 until the day H935 [H8804] he came H7965 again in peace.
  25 H935 [H8804] And it came to pass, when he had come H3389 to Jerusalem H7125 [H8800] to meet H4428 the king, H4428 that the king H559 [H8799] said H1980 [H8804] to him, Why didst thou H4648 not go with me, Mephibosheth?
  26 H559 [H8799] And he answered, H113 My lord, H4428 O king, H5650 my servant H7411 [H8765] deceived H5650 me: for thy servant H559 [H8804] said, H2280 [H8799] I will saddle H2543 me a donkey, H7392 [H8799] that I may ride H3212 [H8799] on it, and go H4428 to the king; H5650 because thy servant H6455 is lame.
  27 H7270 [H8762] And he hath slandered H5650 thy servant H113 to my lord H4428 the king; H113 but my lord H4428 the king H4397 is as a messenger H430 of God: H6213 [H8798] do H2896 therefore what is good H5869 in thine eyes.
  28 H1 For all of my father's H1004 house H3808 were but H4194 dead H582 men H113 before my lord H4428 the king: H7896 [H8799] yet didst thou set H5650 thy servant H398 [H8802] among them that ate H7979 at thy own table. H6666 What right H3426 therefore have H2199 [H8800] I yet to cry H4428 any more to the king?
  29 H4428 And the king H559 [H8799] said H1696 [H8762] to him, Why speakest H1697 thou any more of thy matters? H559 [H8804] I have said, H6717 Thou and Ziba H2505 [H8799] divide H7704 the land.
  30 H4648 And Mephibosheth H559 [H8799] said H4428 to the king, H3947 [H8799] Yea, let him take H310 all, forasmuch H834 as H113 my lord H4428 the king H935 [H8804] hath come again H7965 in peace H1004 to his own house.
  31 H1271 And Barzillai H1569 the Gileadite H3381 [H8804] came down H7274 from Rogelim, H5674 [H8799] and went over H3383 Jordan H4428 with the king, H7971 [H8763] to conduct H3383 him over Jordan.
  32 H1271 Now Barzillai H3966 was a very H2204 [H8804] aged H8084 man, even eighty H8141 years H1121 old: H4428 and he had provided the king H3557 [H8773] with sustenance H7871 while he lay H4266 at Mahanaim; H3966 for he was a very H1419 great H376 man.
  33 H4428 And the king H559 [H8799] said H1271 to Barzillai, H5674 [H8798] Come thou over H3557 [H8773] with me, and I will feed H3389 thee with me in Jerusalem.
  34 H1271 And Barzillai H559 [H8799] said H4428 to the king, H3117 How long H8141 H2416 have I to live, H5927 [H8799] that I should go up H4428 with the king H3389 to Jerusalem?
  35 H3117 I am this day H8084 eighty H8141 years H1121 old: H3045 [H8799] and can I discern H2896 between good H7451 and evil? H5650 can thy servant H2938 [H8799] taste H834 what H398 [H8799] I eat H834 or what H8354 [H8799] I drink? H8085 [H8799] can I hear H6963 any more the voice H7891 [H8802] of singing men H7891 [H8802] and singing women? H5650 why then should thy servant H4853 be yet a burden H113 to my lord H4428 the king?
  36 H5650 Thy servant H5674 0 will go H4592 a little way H5674 [H8799] over H3383 Jordan H4428 with the king: H4428 and why should the king H1580 [H8799] recompense H1578 me with such a reward?
  37 H5650 Let thy servant, H7725 [H8799] I pray thee, return again, H4191 [H8799] that I may die H5892 in my own city, H6913 and be buried by the burying-place H1 of my father H517 and of my mother. H5650 But behold thy servant H3643 Chimham; H5674 [H8799] let him go over H113 with my lord H4428 the king; H6213 [H8798] and do H2896 H5869 to him what shall seem good to thee.
  38 H4428 And the king H559 [H8799] answered, H3643 Chimham H5674 [H8799] shall go H6213 [H8799] over with me, and I will do H2896 H5869 to him that which shall seem good H977 [H8799] to thee: and whatever thou shalt require H6213 [H8799] of me, that will I do for thee.
  39 H5971 And all the people H5674 [H8799] went over H3383 Jordan. H4428 And when the king H5674 [H8804] had come over, H4428 the king H5401 [H8799] kissed H1271 Barzillai, H1288 [H8762] and blessed H7725 [H8799] him; and he returned H4725 to his own place.
  40 H4428 Then the king H5674 [H8799] went on H1537 to Gilgal, H3643 and Chimham H5674 [H8804] went on H5971 with him: and all the people H3063 of Judah H5674 H5674 [H8689] conducted H4428 the king, H2677 and also half H5971 the people H3478 of Israel.
  41 H376 And, behold, all the men H3478 of Israel H935 [H8802] came H4428 to the king, H559 [H8799] and said H4428 to him, H251 Why have our brethren H376 the men H3063 of Judah H1589 [H8804] stolen thee away, H5674 [H8686] and have brought H4428 the king, H1004 and his household, H1732 and all David's H582 men H3383 with him, over Jordan?
  42 H376 And all the men H3063 of Judah H6030 [H8799] answered H376 the men H3478 of Israel, H4428 Because the king H7138 is near of kin H2734 [H8804] to us: why then are ye angry H1697 for this matter? H398 [H8804] have we eaten H398 [H8800] at all H4428 at the king's H5375 [H8765] cost? or hath he given H5379 us any gift?
  43 H376 And the men H3478 of Israel H6030 [H8799] answered H376 the men H3063 of Judah, H559 [H8799] and said, H6235 We have ten H3027 parts H4428 in the king, H589 and we H1732 have also more right in David H7043 [H8689] than ye: why then did ye despise H1697 us, that our advice H7223 should not be first H7725 [H8687] had in bringing back H4428 our king? H1697 And the words H376 of the men H3063 of Judah H7185 [H8799] were fiercer H1697 than the words H376 of the men H3478 of Israel.
