2 Chronicles 32 After these things, and their establishment, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

1 H310 After H1697 these things, H571 and their establishment, H5576 Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H935 [H8804] came, H935 [H8799] and entered H3063 into Judah, H2583 [H8799] and encamped H1219 [H8803] against the fortified H5892 cities, H559 [H8799] and thought H1234 [H8800] to win them for himself.

2 H3169 And when Hezekiah H7200 [H8799] saw H5576 that Sennacherib H935 [H8804] had come, H6440 and that he purposed H4421 to fight H3389 against Jerusalem,

3 H3289 [H8735] He took counsel H8269 with his princes H1368 and his mighty men H5640 [H8800] to stop H4325 the waters H5869 of the fountains H2351 which were outside H5892 the city: H5826 [H8799] and they helped him.

4 H6908 0 So there was gathered H7227 many H5971 people H6908 [H8735] together, H5640 [H8799] who stopped H4599 all the fountains, H5158 and the brook H7857 [H8802] that ran H8432 through the midst H776 of the land, H559 [H8800] saying, H4428 Why should the kings H804 of Assyria H935 [H8799] come, H4672 [H8804] and find H7227 much H4325 water?

5 H2388 [H8691] Also he strengthened H1129 [H8799] himself, and built up H2346 all the wall H6555 [H8803] that was broken, H5927 [H8686] and raised it up H4026 to the towers, H312 and another H2346 wall H2351 without, H2388 [H8762] and repaired H4407 Millo H5892 in the city H1732 of David, H6213 [H8799] and made H7973 weapons H4043 and shields H7230 in abundance.

6 H5414 [H8799] And he set H8269 captains H4421 of war H5971 over the people, H6908 [H8799] and gathered them together H7339 to him in the street H8179 of the gate H5892 of the city, H1696 H3824 [H8762] and encouraged H559 [H8800] them, saying,

7 H2388 [H8798] Be strong H553 [H8798] and courageous, H3372 [H8799] be not afraid H2865 [H8735] nor dismayed H6440 for H4428 the king H804 of Assyria, H1995 nor for all the multitude H7227 that is with him: for there are more with us than with him:

8 H2220 With him is an arm H1320 of flesh; H3068 but with us is the LORD H430 our God H5826 [H8800] to help H3898 [H8736] us, and to fight H4421 our battles. H5971 And the people H5564 [H8735] rested H1697 themselves upon the words H3169 of Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah.

9 H310 After H5576 this Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H7971 [H8804] sent H5650 his servants H3389 to Jerusalem, H3923 (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, H4475 and all his power H3169 with him,) to Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah, H3063 and to all Judah H3389 that were at Jerusalem, H559 [H8800] saying,

10 H559 [H8804] Thus saith H5576 Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria, H982 [H8802] On what do ye trust, H3427 [H8802] that ye abide H4692 in the siege H3389 in Jerusalem?

11 H3169 Doth not Hezekiah H5496 [H8688] persuade H5414 [H8800] you to give H4191 [H8800] over yourselves to die H7458 by famine H6772 and by thirst, H559 [H8800] saying, H3068 The LORD H430 our God H5337 [H8686] shall deliver H3709 us out of the palm H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria?

12 H3169 Hath not the same Hezekiah H5493 [H8689] taken away H1116 his high places H4196 and his altars, H559 [H8799] and commanded H3063 Judah H3389 and Jerusalem, H559 [H8800] saying, H7812 [H8691] Ye shall worship H6440 at the face of H259 one H4196 altar, H6999 [H8686] and burn incense upon it?

13 H3045 [H8799] Know H1 ye not what I and my fathers H6213 [H8804] have done H5971 to all the people H776 of other lands? H430 were the gods H1471 of the nations H776 of those lands H3201 [H8800] any ways H3201 [H8804] able H5337 [H8687] to deliver H776 their lands H3027 out of my hand?

14 H430 Who was there among all the gods H1471 of those nations H1 that my fathers H2763 [H8689] utterly secluded, H3201 [H8804] that could H5337 [H8687] deliver H5971 his people H3027 out of my hand, H430 that your God H3201 [H8799] should be able H5337 [H8687] to deliver H3027 you out of my hand?

15 H3808 Now therefore let not H2396 Hezekiah H5377 [H8686] deceive H5496 [H8686] you, nor persuade H539 [H8686] you in this manner, neither yet believe H433 him: for no god H1471 of any nation H4467 or kingdom H3201 [H8799] hath been able H5337 [H8687] to deliver H5971 his people H3027 out of my hand, H3027 and out of the hand H1 of my fathers: H430 how much less shall your God H5337 [H8686] deliver H3027 you out of my hand?

16 H5650 And his servants H1696 [H8765] spoke H3068 yet more against the LORD H430 God, H5650 and against his servant H3169 Hezekiah.

17 H3789 [H8804] He wrote H5612 also letters H2778 [H8763] to rail H3068 at the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel, H559 [H8800] and to speak H559 [H8800] against him, saying, H430 As the gods H1471 of the nations H776 of other lands H5337 [H8689] have not delivered H5971 their people H3027 out of my hand, H430 so shall not the God H3169 of Hezekiah H5337 [H8686] deliver H5971 his people H3027 out of my hand.

18 H7121 [H8799] Then they called H1419 with a loud H6963 voice H3066 in the Judean's speech H5971 to the people H3389 of Jerusalem H2346 that were on the wall, H3372 [H8763] to make them afraid, H926 [H8763] and to trouble H3920 [H8799] them; that they might take H5892 the city.

19 H1696 [H8762] And they spoke H5921 against H430 the God H3389 of Jerusalem, H430 as against the gods H5971 of the people H776 of the earth, H4639 the work H3027 of the hands H120 of man.

20 H3169 And for this cause Hezekiah H4428 the king, H5030 and the prophet H3470 Isaiah H1121 the son H531 of Amoz, H6419 [H8691] prayed H2199 [H8799] and cried H8064 to heaven.

21 H3068 And the LORD H7971 [H8799] sent H4397 a messenger, H3582 [H8686] who secreted H1368 all the mighty men H2428 of valour, H5057 and the leaders H8269 and captains H4264 in the camp H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria. H7725 [H8799] So he returned H1322 with shame H6440 of face H776 to his own land. H935 [H8799] And when he had come H1004 into the house H430 of his god, H3329 they that came forth H4578 from his own bowels H5307 [H8689] slew H2719 him there with the sword.

22 H3068 Thus the LORD H3467 [H8686] liberated H3169 Hezekiah H3427 [H8802] and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem H3027 from the hand H5576 of Sennacherib H4428 the king H804 of Assyria, H3027 and from the hand H5095 [H8762] of all others, and guided H5439 them on every side.

23 H7227 And many H935 [H8688] brought H4503 gifts H3068 to the LORD H3389 to Jerusalem, H4030 and presents H3169 to Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah: H310 so that from then on H5375 [H8735] he was magnified H5869 in the eyes H1471 of all nations.

24 H3117 In those days H3169 Hezekiah H2470 [H8804] was sick H4191 [H8800] and near to death, H6419 [H8691] and he prayed H3068 to the LORD: H559 [H8799] and he spoke H5414 [H8804] to him, and he gave H4159 him a sign.

25 H3169 But Hezekiah H7725 [H8689] rendered not again H1576 according to the benefit H3820 done to him; for his heart H1361 [H8804] was lifted up: H7110 therefore there was splintering rage H3063 upon him, and upon Judah H3389 and Jerusalem.

26 H3169 However Hezekiah H3665 [H8735] humbled H1363 himself for the pride H3820 of his heart, H3427 [H8802] both he and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem, H7110 so that the splintering rage H3068 of the LORD H935 [H8804] came H3117 not upon them in the days H3169 of Hezekiah.

27 H3169 And Hezekiah H3966 had very H7235 [H8687] great H6239 riches H3519 and glory: H6213 [H8804] and he made H214 himself treasuries H3701 for silver, H2091 and for gold, H3368 and for precious H68 stones, H1314 and for spices, H4043 and for shields, H2532 and for all manner of pleasant H3627 jewels;

28 H4543 Storehouses H8393 also for the increase H1715 of grain, H8492 and wine, H3323 and oil; H723 and stalls H929 for all manner of beasts, H220 and sheepfolds H5739 for flocks.

29 H6213 [H8804] Moreover he provided H5892 for himself cities, H4735 and possessions H6629 of flocks H1241 and herds H7230 in abundance: H430 for God H5414 [H8804] had given H7399 him substance H3966 in great H7227 abundance.

30 H3169 This same Hezekiah H5640 [H8804] also stopped H5945 the upper H4161 H4325 watercourse H1521 of Gihon, H3474 [H8762] and brought it straight H4295 down H4628 to the west side H5892 of the city H1732 of David. H3169 And Hezekiah H6743 [H8686] prospered H4639 in all his works.

31 H3651 But H3887 [H8688] in the business of the ambassadors H8269 of the princes H894 of Babylon, H7971 [H8764] who sent H1875 [H8800] to him to enquire H4159 of the wonder H776 that was done in the land, H430 God H5800 [H8804] left H5254 [H8763] him, to test H3045 [H8800] him, that he might know H3824 all that was in his heart.

32 H3499 Now the rest H1697 of the acts H3169 of Hezekiah, H2617 and his mercies, H3789 [H8803] behold, they are written H2377 in the vision H3470 of Isaiah H5030 the prophet, H1121 the son H531 of Amoz, H5612 and in the book H4428 of the kings H3063 of Judah H3478 and Israel.

33 H3169 And Hezekiah H7901 [H8799] slept H1 with his fathers, H6912 [H8799] and they buried H4608 him in the chief H6913 of the burying-places H1121 of the sons H1732 of David: H3063 and all Judah H3427 [H8802] and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem H6213 [H8804] did him H3519 glory H4194 at his death. H4519 And Manasseh H1121 his son H4427 [H8799] reigned in his stead.
