³⁸ for as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark,

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

⁴⁵ But if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and begin to beat the men and maid-servants, and drink, and to be drunken:

¹⁸ And they all with one consent began to make excuses; the first said, I have bought a field, and I must go and see it, pray have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and am going to try them, pray have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They were eating, drinking, marrying, and being married, till the day that Noah went into the ark: and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ And as it was likewise in the days of Lot; they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, and building:

³⁴ Take heed to yourselves, least at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of life, and so that day should come upon you unawares:

¹³ Let us behave decently as being in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lasciviousness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus, and make not provision for the flesh to gratify its irregular desires.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, that the time is short: it remains therefore, that even those, who have wives, be as though they had none; ³⁰ and they, that weep, as if they wept not; and they, that rejoice, as if they rejoiced not; and they, that buy, as if they possessed not; ³¹ and they, that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
