⁴⁷ who devour widows houses, and for a shew of religion make long prayers: these shall receive a heavier sentence.

²² therefore I tell you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgement, than for you. ²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted even to heaven, shalt be cast down to hell: for if the miracles, which have been wrought in thee, had been wrought in Sodom, it would have remained unto this day. ²⁴ Moreover I tell you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgement, than for thee.

¹³ But wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites, who shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, nor suffer those that are entering to go in.

²⁶ thou blind pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that the outside of them may be also clean. ²⁷ Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites; who are like whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful without, but within are full of the bones of the dead, and all manner of filthiness; ²⁸ so do ye likewise outwardly appear to men to be righteous, but within are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

¹² And I tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day even for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ Wo unto thee, Chorazin, wo unto thee, Bethsaida, for if the miracles wrought among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgement than for you.

¹ In the mean time great multitudes of people being gathered together about Him, so that they trode upon one another, He began to say to his disciples, Beware of the leaven of the pharisees, which is hypocrisy: for there is nothing concealed,

⁴⁷ And that servant, who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself to do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; ⁴⁸ but he that knew it not, and did things deserving stripes, shall be beaten with few: for to whomsoever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will demand the more.

⁵ For neither at any time used we flattering speech, as ye know, nor covetous pretence, God is witness:

² for men will be selfish, covetous, arrogant, proud, blasphemers, undutiful to parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, perfidious, false accusers, intemperate, savage, enemies to the good, traitors, ⁴ headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, ⁵ having a form of godliness, but strangers to the power of it: from such turn away. ⁶ For of these are they who insinuate themselves into families, and captivate weak women, that are laden with sins,

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but in works deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and to every thing that is good void of understanding.

¹ My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we who are such shall pass a stricter trial than others: for in many things we all offend;
