³⁸ in as much as I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured: others have laboured, and ye are entered into their labors.

¹ Now in those days came John the baptist preaching in the desert part of Judea, ² and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand: ³ for this is He who was spoken of by Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the desert, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." ⁴ And this John had his clothes of camels hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then went, out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the country about Jordan, ⁶ and they were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

²³ And Jesus went through all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom of heaven, and healing every disease and every malady among the people.

⁸ But what went ye out to see? a man clad in fine attire? they that wear rich clothes are in the palaces of kings. ⁹ But what did ye indeed go out to see? a prophet? Yes, verily, and one superior to a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he, of whom it is written, "Behold I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee." ¹¹ For I assure you that in the whole human race there hath not risen a greater than John the baptist: though the lest in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he: ¹² and from the days of John the baptist to this time, the kingdom of heaven is as it were forced into, and the most pressing seize upon it with eagerness. ¹³ For all the prophets, and the law, did no more than prophesy, till John came:

⁷ this man came for witness, that he might testify concerning the light, that through him all might believe.

⁴¹ They therefore that received his word with readiness were baptized: and in that same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

⁴ But many of them who heard the word, believed: and the number of the men was about five thousand.

³² And the heart and soul of the multitude that believed was one: no one called any of his possessions his own property, but they had all things common.

¹⁴ And true believers were the more willingly added to the Lord, even multitudes both of men and women.

⁷ And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was greatly multiplied; and a great number of the priests became obedient to the faith.

⁴ Now they that were dispersed went about preaching the word. ⁵ And Philip coming to the city of Samaria, preached Christ unto them. ⁶ And the people unanimously attended to the things which were spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he wrought: ⁷ for impure spirits crying with a loud voice came out of many that were possessed by them; and many paralytic and lame persons were cured. ⁸ And there was great joy in that city.

¹⁴ Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John: ¹⁵ who when they were come down prayed for them that they might receive the holy Spirit: (for He was not yet fallen upon any of them, ¹⁶ only they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus:) and then they laid their hands on them, ¹⁷ and they received the holy Spirit.

³⁷ Ye know the report that was spread through all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached: concerning Jesus of Nazareth, ³⁸ how God anointed Him with the holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil: for God was with Him.

⁴² And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He who is appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. ⁴³ To Him do all the prophets bear witness, that whosoever believeth on Him shall receive the forgiveness of their sins through his name.

¹¹ searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ in them did declare in testifying beforehand the sufferings that were to come upon Christ, and the glories following them: ¹² to whom it was revealed, that it was not to themselves, but to us they ministered these things, which are now declared unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you, through the holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
