¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his favor to me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all; yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

²⁰ but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh by you.

¹ I say then, Hath God cast off his people? God forbid! for I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

⁵ And so in the present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And if by grace, it is no more of works: for then grace is no longer grace. But if of works, it is no more grace: for then work is no longer work.

³ For by the grace conferred on me I charge every one among you, not to think of himself above what he ought to think: but to think with sobriety, according as God hath divided to every man the measure of faith.

¹⁷ I have therefore matter of glorying in Christ Jesus, as to the things of God. ¹⁸ For I shall not go about to speak of any thing, but what Christ hath wrought by me, (to gain the obedience of the Gentiles,) both in word and deed: ¹⁹ through the efficacy of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round as far as to Illyricum, I have fully declared the gospel of Christ: ²⁰ being studious however so to preach the gospel, not where Christ had been named, least I should build upon another man's foundation;

⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered: but God gave the increase.

⁷ For who maketh thee to differ? and what hast thou, which thou didst not receive? And if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not received it?

² By which also ye are saved, if ye retain it as I preached it to you: unless indeed ye have believed in vain.

⁵ not that we can of ourselves reckon upon any thing as from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.

¹ And we co-operating with Him do also exhort you that ye receive not the grace of God in vain:

¹² For we presume not to number, or compare ourselves with some who recommend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are void of understanding. ¹³ But we will not glory of things beyond our bounds, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath given to us, a measure to come even unto you. ¹⁴ For we do not stretch ourselves beyond measure, as though we were not commissioned to come unto you; for we have reached even to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ. ¹⁵ Not boasting of things beyond our limits in other men's labors; but having hope that, when your faith is increased, we shall be abundantly enlarged by you according to our line, ¹⁶ to preach the gospel in places beyond you; and not to boast in another's province of things ready prepared for us.

²³ so am I: are they ministers of Christ? (if I may speak as a fool) I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes far exceeding, in prisons more frequently, and often even in deaths. ²⁴ From the Jews I have five times received forty stripes save one. ²⁵ Thrice I have been beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I have been shipwrecked, and was a night and a day on the deep: ²⁶ in journies often, in perils from rivers, in perils from robbers, in perils from my own nation, in perils from the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the desert, in perils on the sea, in perils among false brethren: ²⁷ in labor and toil, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness: and beside these outward troubles, ²⁸ that which besets me daily, the care of all the churches. ²⁹ Who is infirm, and I am not infirm also? who is offended, and I am not inflamed? ³⁰ If I must boast, I will boast of the things which relate to my infirmity.

¹¹ Am I become vain in boasting? ye have forced me to it: for I ought to have been recommended by you, as I have in nothing fallen short of the very chiefest of the apostles, though in myself I am nothing.

⁸ (for He who wrought effectually in Peter as to the apostleship of the circumcision, wrought effectually also in me as to the gentiles:)

⁷ That in the ages to come He might shew the superabundant riches of his grace, in his kindness towards us through Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace ye are saved, through faith: and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not by works, that no one may boast:

⁷ of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God conferred on me by the effectual operation of his power. ⁸ On me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace bestowed, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

¹³ for it is God that worketh in you both to will, and to work, out of his own good-pleasure.

¹³ I can do all things through Christ strengthening me.

²⁸ whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: ²⁹ in order to which I also labour, striving earnestly according to his energy which operates in me with power.

¹⁵ It is a truth highly to be believed, and worthy to be received by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners:---of whom I am one of the chief. ¹⁶ But for this end I obtained mercy, that in me a chief sinner Jesus Christ might display his long-suffering, for an example to those who should afterwards believe on Him to eternal life.
