¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.

³² "And, if ye love those who love you, what charm have you? for even the sinners love those who love them.

¹⁶ Ye did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you.

¹⁴ I have given them Thy word, and the world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I pray not that Thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil one. ¹⁶ They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

⁴ according as He chose us in Him before the founding of a world, that we should be holy and without blemish before Him in love; ⁵ having predestinated us to the adoption of sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, ⁶ to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He graciously bestowed on us in the Beloved; ⁷ in Whom we have our redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, ⁸ which He made to superabound toward us in all wisdom and understanding; ⁹ making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Him, ¹⁰ for a dispensation of the fulness of the seasons, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth; in Him, ¹¹ in Whom we also were made a heritage, having been predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will;

² in which ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the authority of the air, the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all once lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the will of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest; ⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, on account of His great love wherewith He loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead in our offenses, made us alive with Christ (by grace ye have been saved),

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving manifold desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. ⁴ But, when the kindness and the benevolence of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we did, but according to His mercy, He saved us through a washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit; ⁶ Whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior; ⁷ that having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

⁹ But ye are "an elect race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation," a people for a possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; ¹⁰ who once were not a people, but are now God's people; who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. ¹¹ Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly desires, which, indeed, war against the soul; ¹² having your conduct seemly among the gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may, from your good works which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

³ For the time past is sufficient to have wrought the will of the gentiles, having walked in wantonness, lusts, wine-bibbings, revelings, carousings, and impious idolatries;

¹² not as Cain who was of the evil one, and slew his brother. And wherefore did he slay him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

⁴ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He Who is in you, than he that is in the world. ⁵ They are of the world; for this cause they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

¹⁹ We know that we are of God, and the whole world is lying in the evil one. ²⁰ And we know that the Son of God hath come, and hath given us understanding, that we may know the True One: and we are in the True One—in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and eternal life.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole habitable earth; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

¹⁷ And the dragon was angry with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus;

⁷ And, when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be loosed out of his prison, ⁸ and will come forth to deceive the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war, the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. ⁹ And they went up over the breadth of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city; and fire came down out of the heaven, and devoured them.
