² No, God has not disowned His people, on whom He set His heart beforehand. Do you know what the Scripture says in Elijah's case, how he pleaded with God against Israel?

¹ Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and for forty days He was led about in the desert under the Spirit's guidance,

¹ Now when the Lord learned that the Pharisees had heard that He was winning and baptizing more disciples than John -- ² though Jesus Himself was not baptizing, it was His disciples -- ³ He left Judea and went back again to Galilee.

¹¹ She said to Him, "You have nothing to draw with, sir, and the well is deep. Where do you get your living water?

¹⁷ "And yet, I know, brothers, that you did not realize what you were doing, any more than your leaders did.

⁴⁰ and they said to Aaron, 'Make us gods to march in front of us, for as for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him!'

⁴⁸ The heathen kept on listening and rejoicing and giving the glory to God's message, and all who had been destined to eternal life believed,

¹⁸ who has been making this known from ages past.'

²⁹ For those on whom He set His heart beforehand He marked off as His own to be made like His Son, that He might be the eldest of many brothers; ³⁰ and those whom He marked off as His own He also calls; and those whom He calls He brings into right standing with Himself; those whom He brings into right standing with Himself He also glorifies.

⁶ But it is not that God's word has failed. For not everybody that is descended from Israel really belongs to Israel,

²³ so as to make known the riches of His glory for the objects of His mercy, whom He prepared in ages past to share His glory --

² Do you not know that God's people are to judge the world? And if the world is to be judged before you, are you unfit to try such petty cases?

²² But if to keep on living here means fruit from my labor, I cannot tell which to choose.

¹ It was bit by bit and in many different ways that God in olden times spoke to our forefathers through the prophets, ² the people chosen in accordance with the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the consecration of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and to be sprinkled with His blood: spiritual blessing and peace to you in increasing abundance.
